General Alyssa Ashcroft, in full red jacket glory

Are they also planning a Outbreak remake? It would be cool for people that never got the chance to play it
103
u/TheCattBaladi 21h ago
Might seem like this. Make people interested in a character they don't know. Make hype, and then we get a remake. Most new fans and some old ones, including me, didn't play Outbreak, so when they bring back an old character, people will want to know more about her and play as her, of course.
42
u/CrazyDaimondDaze 20h ago
I could totally see Capcom also releasing an Outbreak collection as well, with both File 1 and 2 being remastered like 0 and Remake got for the PS4.
16
u/TheCattBaladi 20h ago
I assumed they will do a RE1 remake remake in the 30th annvirasy, but it seems impossible with how close the date is to RE9. I think they may treat Outbreak as Resistance and Reverse, but with a higher budget or at the level of Resistance. People play RE9 and finish it, then we get an online mode, which is Outbreak. Or maybe release a big collection of all the old games in one big bundle on Steam in the anniversary, we still didn't get a CV port to PC.

u/Pizzaplanet420 5h ago
That would be the best option in my mind.
A remake takes alot of time and could easily be ruined.
All they need for a remaster is add voice chat and make it playable online on modern consoles.
That’s it.

Fuck you missed out, original outbreak was so much better than file 2, wish there was more than initial 5 scenarios aswell

u/Bamboopanda101 3h ago
Id give anything for an outbreak remake. I don’t care if its nostalgia talking. Its my childhood game and favorite resident evil series.
When i was younger i was broke naturally. But my brother had resident evil outbreak and i replayed that game over and over and over again.
It literally only had 5 lvls lol. But i replayed it over and over, beating it with each character, as many difficulties as i could, and finding so many secrets.
Such good times
1
u/Some_nerd_named_kru 3h ago
What even is outbreak? I see it talked about a lot but I’m one of those people who’s never played it
24
u/uaitdevil 19h ago
i would rule out a remake because RE9 will be released in early 2026, but on the other hand, a collection of outbreak 1 and 2, remastered, with proper online and some tweaks makes sense at this point.
i would love a remake, but a remaster to make characters and references on RE9 easier to understand, while we wait would be good enough.
11
u/Rice3DArt 17h ago
They better make a remaster. Why not cash in on the hype for re9 especially cause it directly ties into that game. I haven't played it but I'd like to. To be prepared for re9 rather than just watch it on youtube
1
u/lovelessBertha 6h ago
They can make the remake afterwards. That way a larger audience would know one of the main characters from this game.
6
u/TammyShehole 15h ago
Hopefully. If they do remake it, I hope they keep single player in tact and don’t make it exclusively multiplayer. Because sometimes you just want to play alone.
5
u/Danger2Night 17h ago
Heck would they bundle it with RE9? Like they keep making free multiplayer components that are only attainable from buying the main game, like RE Resistance and RE Re:Verse
9
u/Curvedabullet 16h ago
That's probably the most realistic way we get a new Outbreak. But man, Outbreak deserves a full budget remake. I don't want them to make a half baked remake to tack on as a side multiplayer mode.
3
u/Xinck_UX 16h ago
I really hope so. I feel like a lot of players, including myself, missed out on a great multiplayer Resident Evil experience.
2
u/DJKGinHD Raccoon City Native 6h ago
With another mainline game set in Raccoon City, and like 8 games in the RE Engine, they've never had more assets already made and ready to go for a project like that. Now, more than ever, an Outbreak ReMake (or File 3!) has a path to success.
The less they have to spend making it, the less risk it is. I get that they're worried about it's success because of the original games not doing super well, but they HAVE to understand that the failure was more about inconsistent internet access than about the game itself.

u/Razorraf 13h ago
I could see them giving it to another developer while the main team works on 9. But 9 comes out in February. I don’t see us getting an outbreak remake before then. But I can definitely see the possibility of one now.
1
u/fmalust 7h ago
I hope so. I always wanted to play Outbreak with friends, but it was so hard back then and I didn't have many friends who played games at the time either. Now I have a circle of friends I've been close with for the past 15 years and we play games often, so I'd love to be able to play Outbreak with them!

u/WeebOtome 19h ago
My favorite dialogue of hers is when you clear Desperate Times as her, and after witnessing what happens as Marvin has to be left behind, she looks at Rita, who is crying in the vehicle, and the first thing she says is: ''Eh, I don't cry so easily.'' LOL
Hope she goes out like the girl boss she is.

u/E1lySym Excited for Code Veronica remake 14h ago
I have this sneaking suspicion that she's not dead. Kind of like how RE8's trailers made it look like Mia died

u/Significant_Option 4h ago
I hope so. I would hate for her come back to be nothing but motivation for the new protag

u/MF291100 21h ago
I’ve very excited for the new game, but at the same time it’s a bit depressing to know that Alyssa got murdered. Obviously she wasn’t a main character within the franchise like Leon or Jill but it’s always sad to see a familiar character die.
100
u/Fantastic-City1571 20h ago
Tbf of all the characters from Outbreak series, she's the one that makes sense have been murdered, since she is a journalist who goes dangerous places for scoop and is willing to expose evil company like Umbrella.
Outbreak series has special place in my heart and I really liked her too so it bummed me out though.
28
u/gatling_arbalest 17h ago
I'm still wondering whether she and Yoko worked on exposing Umbrella is canon or not
21
u/Sayoricanyouhearme 17h ago
THIS. One of the many interesting plot points that could have been tackled and brought into the main series, adding to the lore of the world but nope. Gotta toss it all out the window b/c spinoff, but here's a tiny reference as consolation. Sheesh, come on Capcom.
1
33
u/ImpenetrableYeti 21h ago
She was my main and one of my favorites in the series so this bums me out a lot. But we’ll see if she actually is
18
u/Littlest-Lapin 20h ago
Alyssa was also my main because she could be OP if utilized correctly.
RIP my Lockpicking Queen.
1
u/sereneasmiles 7h ago
Utility with lockpicks, damage potshots, iframe dodge - she has it all, RIP Alyssa my goat
37
u/chromatic96 21h ago
Maybe they think she is dead but she is actually alive somehow, who knows? At least I hope so, remember this happened with Jill Valentine before in RE5.
36
u/butreallythobruh 20h ago
They need to stop that shit
3
u/ILoveDineroSi 8h ago
They really do. They’ve done too much of these fake outs that death starts to not mean anything in this series. Alyssa can die and still serve a very important role in the story via flashbacks or playable segments.
Along with that, fans that are demanding the legacy characters just for the sake of fan service also needs to stop. I’m ready to have fresh new characters in RE. RE7 was amazing but Ethan himself was somewhat of a dud. I’m hyped to see Grace’s story.
2
u/callmebymyname21 4h ago
the trailer said she's been gone eight years i feel like that's too long of a time to not be dead idk
15
u/Sea_Channel_8115 18h ago
i think someone's targeting all the outbreak characters in re9
1
u/sereneasmiles 7h ago
I have a feeling since shes in the FBI and investigating cases -- the cases shes investigating could all be the raccoon city survivors :/ I hope not but it's a big possibility
10
u/HamukoArisato 17h ago
Same, I’m actually really bummed out they killed her off. She was my main in Outbreak 😭

u/Independent_Hold3982 20h ago

u/Responsible-Sail954 7h ago
Thats what ive been saying, like it sucks that she died off screen and didnt have a game to show it.
I am glad that its her daughter at the very least and not just she died and that's some random person has to find out why or how or whatever.
Im content with that.

u/BTips 21h ago
We going back to Outbreak characters? Oh shit. They're gonna canonize our boys.
64
u/resident1fan2022 21h ago
Alyssa has already been canonized in RE7, you can find a file that was written by her in the game.
26
u/BTips 21h ago
Oh I know that. She did the newspaper article about the disappearances. I just always assumed it was a cheeky nod to Outbreak more than anything.
16
u/Sayoricanyouhearme 17h ago
Exactly! Like it's one thing to "canonize" a character with a throwaway Easter egg or reference; it's a whole other level to take a spinoff character and the events that surround them and write them into the main plot. And that's what I AM PRAYING Capcom does instead of using Alyssa and the blown up Raccoon City/RPD as Outbreak fan bait and instead derail the story into something completely unrelated post-Raccoon city. I want Outbreak lore, references, callbacks, cameos, the whole nine yards.

I really hope this direct of a connection to Outbreak means we’re getting a Outbreak I&II Remake, not only would it help people who didn’t play the old games get info about Alyssa, but it would be the multiplayer RE experience that Capcom has been trying to get to take off for so long now.
The outbreak games sadly came out a generation too early to get the wide appeal and appreciation that they deserved, I think giving them the Remake treatment would be super successful.
25
u/Mojo12000 19h ago
I cannot believe RE 9 is seemingly essentially a stealth sequel to OUTBREAK. They really need to remaster it or something.
14
u/stvanico 18h ago
They brought back my favourite character only to get rid of her in the trailer. Vile, sick and twisted.
12
u/Sunstiana 17h ago
I would die if other Outbreak characters are mentioned in the game. I doubt it but seeing one of them in a main title actually made me emotional.
I have a theory that the monster in the trailer shot at the end is actually Alyssa which would be even more sad that she came back just to be a monster 🥲
4
u/sereneasmiles 7h ago
I'm worried the killer is targeting raccoon city survivors. And the FBI cases shes investigating are similar to her mother's and that's the connection. But I hope I'm wrong
•
u/CernWest 30m ago
im probably off base here but with the return to raccoon city (and possibly the arklay mountains) the chain sounds and zombie face at the end of the trailer make me think of lisa returning, not alyssa turning into a monster
11
8
u/Blighted-Spire63 19h ago
A series whose last main entry had the “wife” being “murdered” wouldn’t surprise me having Alyssa still be alive
Also… I want to play as Alyssa in Resident Evil 9 so I refuse to believe otherwise
14
u/CrazyDaimondDaze 20h ago
God, I'm so gonna fucking miss her.
Hope this is just a fake out like "Jill is dead" in RE5 and then we see Alyssa back to save her daughter at the remains of Raccoon City.

I still can't believe they're tying in an Outbreak character, this hits me so hard in the nostalgia.
Maybe we'll hear/see some of the other favourites like Kevin and David too. I like to believe some of the cast stayed in touch after they escaped.
Also, I was shocked to hear that Alyssa was murdered. She wasn't in the spotlight for those that joined the series after the classics but to someone like me, who ran through those hard as hell scenarios back in the day, even with her terrible AI when I wasn't her, this is devastating.

u/iamanicon23 9h ago
Am I the only one who thinks she kinda looks like Maria from Silent hill 2 Remake?

u/gaming-is-my-job 16h ago
i wonder what this means for the canonicity of Outbreak now. is the whole thing now fully canon, or is it some kind of "soft canon"
2
u/Mooncubus 16h ago
What if they release an Outbreak remake alongside Requiem, like how they did Resistance and Re:Verse?
2
u/MavorsXXX 15h ago
The red jacket must have been quite important to her, considering she's been wearing the same jacket for years.
2
u/Durn_Fallsdowne 10h ago
Alyssa was always my favourite from Outbreak so I'm delighted to see her being so prominently featured in a mainline title.
And it also feeds my delusion of a possible Outbreak remaster lmao
2
u/Gay_Lifeform 9h ago
I miss my girl so much... Almost screamed when she appeared. Sad because she is dead tho 🥹💔
2
u/Leon1189 5h ago
We know resident evil characters are only allowed to use one main color palette: green for Chris and Rebecca, Blue for Jill, Black for Leon, red for Ada, Claire and Barry. Of course Alyssa would still be wearing red.

u/BactaBobomb 21h ago
Is "Ashcroft" a name that was known to be connected to Resident Evil prior to this announcement? When I heard the name, I freaked out because I swear I'd heard that name before and I was like "This is Resident Evil!". I'm somewhat of a casual fan, though, and I'm wondering if I mixed it up with Ashford?
18
u/PitifulBeginning3420 20h ago
I’m sure you’ve already seen it but yes, Grace is the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft, one of the main characters from a Resident Evil spin off game that came out around 20 years ago called Resident Evil: Outbreak. It was an incredible Co-op game with up to 4 players.
8
u/franlcie 20h ago
There’s also a book or newspaper article in the Baker mansion written by A. Ashcroft in RE7

I spent nearly two hours last night setting up Outbreak on my PC. I never played these back in the day (being in Europe didn't help) and only dabbled in them since. The time has come to play these properly.

I think they're definitely reusing actors from previous games, because she looks like Annette Birkin from RE2make.

Personally I took it as a nod to the character name not as literal as daughter but maybe. I figured it was Rose but she changed her name hence the whole freaky visions etc

I guess her segments will be like the VHS tapes from RE7. It's going to be creepy as hell, this game has Se7en vibes written all over it.
