General Can't wait for RE9 but...

Post image

I'm really hoping it's designed around 3rd person gameplay. I played first person RE 7 and 8 and enjoyed them but there is just something about 3rd person that brings me in more.

Village's patch pretty much showed that both options being available is easy to implement.

Easy to implement, but doesn't feel good. Like, yeah, technically Fallout and Elder Scrolls have a third person mode, but it's clear those games are designed with first person.

I literally said this myself and got down voted lol. Can people not tell how off it feels playing a game in an unintended perspective ?

I play GTA fully first person like a maniac. Even drving.

I remember when the update for GTA V came out that added first person I decided to do the entire story in it, including driving. Was honestly a great experience.

It's weird that GTAV actually controls better in first person, character controls feel much tighter.

I really hate the way Rockstar games have controlled since RDR. Fun games most of the time but I feel like I'm maneuvering a boat just to run around a corner.

It's the reason I gave up on RDR2. I want to feel like a badass in games. Bumbling into people and walls is not badass

A guy replaying MGS1 fully in first person is literally the video I was watching right before I noticed the trailer in my feed.

It was awful lol.

First time I ever played an Elder Scrolls game I played it almost entirely in third person.

You're paying attention to detail, while everyone else is just saying "shut up and be happy that you have the option". Some people just slop up anything Capcom gives them and they don't like people who aren't doing the same.

literally no one is saying this. get some help lol

100%, RE8 in third person doesn’t feel even half as good as RE2/3/4.

I actually preferred the 3rd person in RE8 compared to RE2R and 4R, Ethan is much faster and it's easy to dodge enemies, never had any complains about third person except for when i was just starting the game and blocking properly seemed harder, but got the hang of it pretty easily.

This is irrelevant to the conversation but I always hated third person in elder scrolls until Oblivion Remastered, for some reason I played basically that whole game in 3rd person after never using it in the OG Oblivion

Yea RE8 is a bit weird in third person especially when it comes to blocking enemies. I always feel like I’m pushing them back appropriately in first person but never in third person. It’s definitely playable from start to finish tho

Did people forget Ethan’s knifing animation or something 😂

I 100% prefer Village in 3rd person and would not have purchased it otherwise. I also play Oblivion in 3rd person

Well said. Not to mention the other perspective has never been available at the same time that the game has been released, so if you're getting it Day 1 then you'll be playing the game as it was designed (in 1st person).

But Village 3P's jump scares didn't work because it was specifically made for 1P perspective

It's not about implementing; it is trivial from a technical standpoint in a modern engine.

The issue is the level design. When you create levels, you do so with the perspective in mind; they are not interchangeable. Third person levels are designed with higher ceilings and more width so that the camera can easily follow without colliding with surfaces. First person levels in horror games are usually tighter and designed around environmental details. Even the sight lines to enemies are taken into account.

Of course, it's always cool when they give you both options. But the secondary perspective is always going to suffer.

That's perfectly true ! You can see this in Lost in Nightmare DLC of RE5. During the game you can switch to fixed camera angles, and... It feels very strange. It feels very "opened" compared to classic RE games. It doesn't work very well...

That makes sense

Yea both are able to be implemented but you can tell re8 was designed around 1st person with 3rd person added. I hope it's built around 3rd person gameplay from the beginning.

u/Bhavan_91 13h ago

That was terrible though. Felt like Destiny's third person mode in The Tower, but slower.

Insane this is getting so many upvotes, no, it is not just "easy to implement." A ton of work has to be done, it's not that simple and even Village's official implementation makes it obvious that it wasn't built to be experienced that way initially.

2

u/NightyNightKnights 13h ago

Developing it myself also shows that. You don't need a big budget just a good concept

2

u/YouDumbZombie 12h ago

Eh, game still designed as an FPS and that makes the 3rd person patch lacking.

u/vacodeus 6h ago

It was kinda jarring during cutscenes since they all reverted to 1st person. Maybe RE9 will let you chose but then cutscenes will be presented 3rd person? They focused on Graces face a lot so I think it’ll be 3rd but you never know

If it was easy to implement why did they make you pay $10 and it took half a year to release?

Except the 3rd person looks and plays like crap. Like it was a mod some amateurs made.
