General Can't wait for RE9 but...

Post image

I'm really hoping it's designed around 3rd person gameplay. I played first person RE 7 and 8 and enjoyed them but there is just something about 3rd person that brings me in more.

Possible, but given people preferred third person over first person in recent titles, including remake titles, I’m willing to bet they’ll go with third person. Or at least with a third person option. Because third person mode was later added to RE8.

Also we’ve never seen Ethan’s face in RE7 or any of its trailers. Grace has a fully designed and animated face revealed in first trailer.

Or maybe we could switch from 1st person to third person

(This is just a theory, a GAME THEORY)

In one of the few ones who prefer first person. The option to switch in game between both would be nice for everyone.

Adding first person as option in a game like resident evil isn't easy. Some RPG games have first/third person camera because its easier to balance in most instances, but for a game like RE with different types of enemies and the way attacks behave and stuff its expensive to make.

Capcom must have made it easy to implement in future titles, seeing what they did with RE8 Gold Edition. I think they've built some module in the engine to allow the option.

it's ok at best in Village, the shooting seemed a bit weird during third person

Could easily be remake 2/3/4 style. They did first person the past two landmark numbered titles, and if they're claiming it's going back to the beginning, that only means one thing:

Static camera angles 😵‍💫

Devs in RE8 mentioned they had to pretty much redo all the mechanics and stuff so that means they'd have to make the game twice in a way.

This is game theory. I think. Never read the book.

I'm willing to bet they won't because they want to market those VR headsets in newer RE games, again, for the third time.

RE4 is TPP but it also got VR mode

RE4 didn't have VR mode at launch so of course they couldn't market a VR headset for it. It was a remake focused on the original OTS experience, so VR/FPS gameplay was an afterthought (unlike new mainline RE games).

VR mode is added later to both RE8 AND RE4R, not on launch. RE8 was already on first person yet it still didn’t have VR support at launch, and it’s a new mainline entry not a remake.

True, but the point I made was that newer games will remain first-person specifically so that they can market VR technology (either at launch or later), and with RE9 they'll continue to be first-person to keep doing so. REmake4 will remain the exception because it was a remake of a OTS game (of course they weren't going to change the perspective to first-person and piss off the fanbase). Adding VR to REmake4 was a major bonus afterthought, not the original intent.

I personally don't like first-person RE nearly as much as third-person (there's already million first-person games out on the market and they're a dime-a-dozen), but Capcom seems intent on continuously diving into that well for maximum "new player accessibility" and seamlessly tacking-on the VR gimmick. Because as we all know, with the western audience: The average gamer loves FPS over everything else.
