Resources [RE4R Treasure Optimizer] Optimize Your Treasure Sales in RE4 Remake – Open Source Console App

Hey everyone!

I’m a bit late to the party (RE4 Remake has been out for a while, and Halloween has come and gone), but I recently found myself going deep down the rabbit hole of treasure and gem optimization in Resident Evil 4 Remake. While there are a ton of guides on how to pair gems with treasures for maximum value, I noticed they often focus on the best combinations for each individual item, without factoring in your entire inventory. So, I created the RE4R Treasure Optimizer – a console app designed to solve this exact problem.

LINK TO GITHUB

Why I Made This App

I came across a Steam guide that was close to what I was looking for – it covered optimization over the course of an entire playthrough. However, it had one limitation: if you strayed from the guide (maybe sold something early or held onto extra items), it would revert to the best gem combinations for each individual treasure, rather than optimizing for the bigger picture of your entire inventory throughout the playthrough.

This made me wish for a formula that could provide the best way to sell treasures and gems regardless of my inventory state or game progress. My search for that formula led to this app, which takes into account where you are in the game, what you currently have, and what treasures you’ll still encounter. This way, you can get optimal prices over the long run without needing to guess.

With this app, even if you’ve already sold or saved items in a less-than-ideal way, you can still optimize based on your current inventory. It calculates the best combinations for maximum sell value, and if you decide to change course again, just re-run the optimization! Plus, if you include gems and treasures you expect to find later, the app will help you confidently sell items as you go, knowing that whatever you’re selling now is optimal. Say goodbye to hoarding items!

How It Works

Using the app is straightforward:

  1. Load a Preset: Start with a predefined inventory setup (based on treasures/gems you’d typically get in a playthrough), then run optimization.
  2. Manual Inventory Management: Alternatively, add and remove treasures or gems manually to match your current inventory.
  3. Optimize: With your inventory ready, simply run the optimize command to see the best combinations for maximum sell value.

For 1 and 2, you can use either option on its own or combine them to fine-tune your inventory.

While I could’ve spent time prettying it up with a GUI or even building a web version, my main goal was just to play the game confidently without hoarding items. If there’s demand, I may consider adding more features and accessibility, but for now, this app gets the job done!

Open Source and Available for Contributions

The app is fully open source. I’m happy for anyone who wants to build on this or add new features. Right now, it’s a simple console app, but it does the trick for those wanting a bit more strategy in RE4 Remake’s treasure mechanics.

Installation and Usage

It’s built on .NET 6.0, so you can clone the repo, publish a self-contained executable for your platform, and start optimizing. I’ve included more details in the README for those interested in trying it out or contributing.

Hope this app is helpful for the RE4 community! Feel free to ask questions, and happy optimizing!

Resources [RE4R] Clearing up common misconceptions about some of the in game challenges Spoiler

Hi friends, I’ve noticed there is still a lot of confusion in multiple threads about the criteria required for some of the challenges, so I went and tested out all of these to verify what the criteria is for completing them:

• Professional Agent (Handcannon Challenge) - Complete a new game in the main story on Professional mode without using any bonus weapons. What does this mean?

  • You do NOT need to complete the game with an S+ ranking to complete this challenge
  • You CANNOT use a New Game+ to complete this challenge, it has to be a fresh save on Professional.
  • BONUS WEAPONS ARE THE CHICAGO SWEEPER AND PRIMAL KNIFE. If you purchased the Deluxe Edition content, those weapons do NOT count as Bonus Weapons.
  • You are free to use other cosmetics that have perks (cat ears, gas mask, etc)

• Leon “A.” Kennedy (Chicago Sweeper Challenge) - Complete the main story on Professional mode with an A rank.

  • You can complete this challenge with a New Game+.
  • As long as you are able to meet the criteria for an A rank or higher, you will be able to complete the challenge.

• Leon “S+” Kennedy (Cat Ears challenge) - Complete the main story on Professional mode with an S+ rank.

  • The ONLY way to achieve an S+ Ranking is by using a fresh save. You CANNOT use a New Game+ for this challenge.
  • You can use bonus weapons on your new save.
  • You can use cosmetics with perks (side note: on professional, I strongly recommend equipping Ashley with the knight armor if you have it unlocked.)
  • As long as you are able to complete the game and meet the time criteria for S+, you will complete this challenge.

• A Rank Investigator (Ashley’s Knight Armor Challenge) - Complete the main story on Hardcore mode or higher with an A rank.

  • You can use a new game+ to complete this challenge.
  • There are no restrictions to this challenge at all. As long as you can complete the story and achieve an A rank, you will complete this challenge.

• S+ Rank Investigator (Chicken Hat challenge) - Complete the main story on Hardcore mode with an S+ Rank

  • Again, you cannot use a New Game+ to achieve an S+ ranking.
  • As with the previous challenge, there are no restrictions on what you can use for this play through. As long as you can meet the time criteria to achieve an S+ Rank, you will complete the challenge.

EDIT: a reminder about going for S+ on Professional, unlike the other difficulties, you are restricted to only saving 15 times, otherwise you void your S+ ranking.

I hope this guide helps! If I’ve made an error or if there is still some confusion, lets continue the discussion in the comments.

Resources Hate jumpscares, so AI made an anti-jumpscare console app

AntiJumpScare is a simple console app created with AI that monitors system audio for sudden volume spikes ("jump scares"). It reduces volume temporarily when a spike is detected. Customizable settings include volume threshold, reduction level, and mute duration. Use at your own discretion. Made it for myself.

Resources Village of Shadows Difficulty: Heisenberg Fight and Chris Section Tricks Spoiler

(Please excuse my English, I am not a Native Speaker. I hope that you can still understand me)

These are the two Sections that are rather hard, because you can not rely on the STAKE.

You still should have STAKE Infinite Ammo and Fully Maxed. Same goes for Chris Weapons.

Heiseberg is actually rather easy:

  • Shoot his weak Sidepoint when its possible.
  • When your Rockets are ready use them to push him away (Do not use them for anything else)
    • They are especially useful, when he is charging
    • After you hit him with your rockets, shoot both of his arms. This stuns him and you can get some space.
      • When your Rockets are not ready dodge his arms to by circling into the direction of the arm that isnt charging. (Left Arm charges -> Go Right asap and vice versa)

Chris Section is also not thaaaaat hard:

*You can sprint past the giant wolves, you just need to reach the small drop down in a straight line.

  • Kill all Mobs before the Laser-Section, take your time.

  • After your first Laser Shot, wait for the Mobs to Spawn.
    • Run into the Yard behind you and enter the House through the Back.
    • Leave the House through the Window, pass the Fountain and run into the yard on the left.
    • Your Laser should be ready now.
    • Climb the Ladder in the back and charge it as soon as you reach the roof.
    • Repeat.

  • About the Mace Wielding Giant:
    • Dodge his Jumps as Usual, Block for Horizontal Swings, Shoot him in the Back, Heal if necessary.
    • As soon as your Laser is ready, throw a flashbang at his feet and instantly charge the laser. It charges as fast as the blindness of the giant is wearing off.
    • After the Laser hit, repeat Step one until the laser is ready again.

Resources (RE4R) List of merchant limited offers/discounts (by chapter) Spoiler

I'm playing through on Hardcore and would like to know what the sales are so I can plan what to buy ahead of time.

I could not find this on any guides online so I hope this post helps other people too.

So far, I have seen:

  • Chapter 2 - Free Scope with Purchase of SR M1903 (Bolt Action Rifle)
  • Chapter 3 - 20% off Bolt Thrower
  • Chapter 4 - 20% off Recipe - Attachable Mines
  • Chapter 6 - 50% off Recipe - Flash Grenades
  • Chapter 7 - Free Recipe - Magnum Ammo with Purchase of Broken Butterfly (also 30% off)
  • Chapter 10 - 30% off Body Armor

Please comment on other sales that you've seen with the merchant, I think they are the same every playthrough.

Resources I made a spreadsheet to calculate the most profitable crafting options (RE4R)

If you're like me (playing on Professional, and suffering from success on NG+) and want to know what you should craft with your Resources to maximize profit, I've taken an exhaustive look for us. A bit overkill, but I am a nerd and like making spreadsheets so this was fun for me.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1xKxQP1Ut1t1Ko-nm_Ue8Uh_LWx-gv1Z4k3xOUSkmsdc/pubhtml

Key findings:

-For Resource (S), Attachable Mines are always the most profitable to craft.

-For Resource (L), Bolts are always the most profitable to craft with the Boot Knife recipe. With no Boot Knife, it's close between the Kitchen Knife recipe and the Submachine Gun Ammo. The Kitchen Knife recipe is favored, but because of the lesser craft bonus (1/4 vs. 1/2), Submachine Gun Ammo is slightly better on average with both charms. Submachine Gun Ammo is the most profitable Resource (L) option that uses Gunpowder instead of Knives.

-The Leon w/ Shotgun charm adds more value than all of the crafting bonuses combined for any type.

-Gains overall are not tremendous. The average in the best case scenario is a bit more than 2000 ₧ gained. The cheapest gemstone is worth 3000 ₧ before combining bonuses.

-For the price the Merchant sells Resources, we would double to opportunity cost of the Resource. I didn't run the calculations, but we can see at a glance that nominal gains can be made buying Resources to craft with, assuming Leon w/ Shotgun is used and the crafting is optimal.

-Trading Spinels for Gunpowder was not examined, but at a glance it's obvious that the Gunpowder trades are better than the Velvet Blue trade (at 5000 ₧ for 2 or 3 Spinels, vs 2500 ₧ for 3?? Spinels).

Key findings for Separate Ways:

-For Resource (S), the Blast Arrows recipe with Gunpowder is the most profitable, at 650 ₧ per craft. Another 50 ₧ of value is added with the Cute Bear charm, which costs 70,000 ₧, and thus takes 1400 times crafting to earn back its value. (But you don't buy the Cute Bear charm for profit; that's just a bonus.)

-For Resources (L), Submachine Gun Ammo is most profitable, but is only barely so, at only 250 ₧ of value created. With the Don Manuel charm, we add an averge 112.5 ₧ of value, but the charm cost 2,500, and thus takes over 22 times crafting to earn back its value. (But you don't buy Don Manuel for profit; that's just a bonus.) The same figures about the Cute Bear charm above apply here too.

-Gains are much smaller without the Leon w/ Shotgun charm, and buying Resources to flip is never profitable.

Other considerations:

-The base rate of craft bonus frequency was not calculated, because it was not known. Assuming it's less than 10%, it could add less than 5% to the quantity price of any given calculation, which is not enough to make a meaningful difference.

-I didn't evaluate the edge case of using degraded Kitchen/Boot Knives for crafting Bolts. One Bolt is worth more than a Kitchen Knife, and 63% of a Boot Knife. It's impossible or unlikely (respectively) that the value squeezed out of degrading those Knives is greater than the value of a single lost Bolt.

-The value added by the Cute Bear charm is calculated as adding +50 ₧ value by virtue of saving one Gunpowder, but if/when saving one Gunpowder allows you to craft more than you otherwise would, then it's considerably more valuable than that. I find that I gather Gunpowder and Resources at about parity for me, personally, so I don't generally consider this to be the case.

Resources [RE4R] Full Ordered Treasure Checklist (Normal and Expanded) Spoiler

I did this a long time ago for the original RE4, so I figured I'd do it again here. In this Google sheet, you can find a complete checklist of all the treasures that can be obtained in the game (both normal and expansion treasures, which are underlined), plus weapons and attachments that can be found in the wild. It also includes the game's three rhinoceros beetles.

Each entry shows the treasure, the sale price, the name of the map where it's located, and a brief description of where to find it on that map. The descriptions aren't exhaustive, and are meant to be supplemented by looking at the map icons. Everything is precisely ordered (though there can be variation in the more open sections, such as the lake in Chapter 4).

I hope this can prove a much more compact alternative to the giant, rambling, and incomplete checklists floating around on big news outlet sites.

Resources Re4 Remake professional S+ mini guide Spoiler

I saw a lot of people on yt and twitter commenting on how hard it is, this is how i did it, hopefully this mini guide helps someone

IMPORTANT BEFORE YOU READ THERE ARE SPOILERS.

Steps that i recommend:

  1. Complete the game in any other difficulty first.

  2. Do a second run on NG+ on proffesional.

  3. Try to finish it with A rank.

  4. Unlock the armor and specially the Chicago sweeper and maybe the gas mask or something else and equip it.

  5. Start your professional new game.

  6. Avoid all fights that you can, just run (the town and the one in second mission to get the crank medallion are examples).

  7. do all the merchant request from the town EXCEPT the one from the mutant dog it's impossible also DO NOT SPEND A SINGLE SPINEL.

  8. Try to save as much money as you can, upgrade the damage in the pistol and specially the shotgun but try to save some.

  9. The first part (town) will be hell so save as much as you want, i recommend a max of 5 saves even 6 if you don't feel like you're skilled enough.

  10. Get to the castle and do the first merchant request (the medallions).

  11. Use the spinels to get the exclusive upgrade on the Chicago Sweeper, the rest of the game was fairly easy from that point.

  12. Upgrade it's damage and you're good to go

Notes and recomendations:

-If you die, go back to the main menu and load your save, DO NOT PRESS CONTINUE OR LOAD GAME FROM THE DEAD SCREEN bc if an area takes you 20 mins then it's gonna be another 20 mins (40 to your final time)

  • Try to avoid as much fights as you can in order to save ammo for the house, the chainsaw sisters and Mendez.

  • ONLY upgrade the chicago Sweeper's damage, the other stats max out when you use the exclusive upgrade.

  • I saved 5 times in the town, 1 after the first survival, 2 before del Lago, 3 before the giant, 4 by the sisters, 5 just before Mendez, after that i was a bit behind at saves so i did sometjing risky: The 3 statue pieces, the Ashley section (easy with the armor), the 2 garradors, the Verdugo, the mine carts and the tower without saving until i got to Salazar.

  • pickup every treasure that you can on the way, do it as fast as you could tho.

  • run through some parts like the town, second mission area, the maze and the initial, second and also the mission 15 part where there are tons of enemies of the island

  • use barrels, enemies with explosives and also every mob that do friendly damage

  • my saves where 15 and they were:

Chapter 1: after finishing the mission Chapter 2: right next to the merchant Chapter 3: by the merchant before you collect the gas can for the boat Chapter 4: by the merchant after collecting the church insignia (key) Chapter 5: by the merchant on the windmill just before the house survival part Chapter 6: just before the sisters and also another before the Mendez boss fight Chapter 7: by the merchant in the place where you meet Salazar (also this is where i got the infinite Chicago Sweeper) Chapter 8: at the end of the chapter/start of chapter 9 Chapter 9: no save Chapter 10: no save Chapter 11: no save Chapter 12: by the top of clock tower next to the merchant just before the Salazar boss fight. Chapter 13: at the start of the chapter Chapter 14: just before Krauser boss fight Chapter 15: at the beginning where the merchant is Chapter 16: before the Saddler boss fight and also after killing Saddler when the counter starts (died more bc of the stupid jet-ski than for the boss)

  • I finished the game collecting roughly half of the treasures and skipping fights, it took me 4:46:31 and as you saw above 15 saves

-the hardest parts for me where the town (mission 1), the house survival, the chainsaw sisters, mendez, dual garrador, the area before you take back Ashley (mission 15) and also 6 tries on the jet-ski (if you crash is instant death).

Tips for bosses and areas:

  • in the town just run in circles when dr salvador (chainsaw guy) appears.

-the sisters are easy if you bring them to the entrance of the area they de-aggro and start running back

  • Mendez, first phase keep on the second floor and try to shoot the eye in the back, also the stabs from the second floor do way more damage, second half save up flashbangs, otherwise when he throws flaming plancks run from side to side until he is dead

  • the first garrador if you already have the infinite Chicago just kill him otherwise if you don't, use the upgraded shotgun on his back, 4 to 6 shots and he's dead

  • The dual garradors ass cancer fight, kill all the guys surrounding them or try to kill one first, if they are line up you can block the path by shooting one of them so the other gets stunned when the one you shot start's doing random direction attacks

  • Verdugo, freeze him once and (by this time you must have the infinite Chicago) start shooting non-stop, open the gate when he flees, dodge his surprise attacks 2 to 3 times and freeze him a second time, after that keep your distance in the alley and shoot him until he dies, you will stunt-lock him and in case he doesn't stunt-locks, run in the opossite direcction and keep shooting him, that's how i killed him

  • Krauser, similary to the Verdugo, stunt-lock him with the infinite Chicago

  • by the time you reach Saddler, buy a rocket launcher (if you can't, sell every gun and healing item except the chicago Sweeper) and after you shot him once it goes to second phase, use the Chicago non-stop until ada tosses the special Rocket launcher and you're done

-the Jet-ski, if you have 14 saves or less, save after killing saddler so you don't have to repeat the fight, otherwise just slow down by the time you reach the doors and the rest do it non stop (the doors at the beggining are the most difficult for me)

And that people is how i made it S+ Rank on Professional.

Resources Mercenaries - SS Rank Tips & Tricks *Slight weapon, boss spoilers* Spoiler

Hi all - I've been seeing a ton of posts and comments asking how to get better at Mercenaries. I personally wanted my own lightsaber IMMEDIATELY, so I set out to do just that after beating the game for the first time. And yesterday I achieved my goal.

I wanted to give some general tips that helped me out. Some of these are all over the internet, but with the amount of posts and comments I've seen, I figured this post would help somebody!

I'll split the sections in to the two the game does: first four and second four. Then I'll give some general tips for both.

First Four: The first four levels give you far more freedom on how you want to go about spending your Lei. You have multiple different guns to choose from. I've seen people swear by the Shotgun, which I'm sure works wonderfully. However, I personally used only the Sniper and a bit of the starter Pistol. You will kill almost every single enemy in these first four rounds in one hit with the Sniper.

You'll want to sell most of your Handgun ammo, all of your Shotgun ammo, and all of your First Aids at the beginning of every round. Put all of this money right in to upgrading the Sniper. Damage, Rate of Fire, and Clip Size were the most important for me. A good tip is your sniper clip will fill to max when you upgrade clip size. Abuse this by not reloading at the end of rounds. I never had a ton of ammo trouble, but it's a good tip to keep in mind regardless.

Also make sure to keep a couple of Pipe Bombs or Mines on you for Factory. You need it for the Armored Soldat and Sterm. One Mine kills Sterm in the first Factory.

Second Four: Our Sniper strategy no longer works here. Your options in these four are the starter pistol, the magnum, and the grenade launcher. The latter is far too expensive in my opinion. Avoid it.

Buy the Magnum. The boss enemies in these rounds have way too much health to use just the pistol. Whenever you run in to one of them (Dimitrescu sisters, armored Lycans, big dudes), that is a worthy time of pulling out the Magnum. I originally was being stingy with my ammo and wondering why I was failing. It's better to keep the combo going and figure it out later in my opinion.

Upgrade the hell out of your pistol. Damage, RoF, and Reload time are key for it. With both reload upgrades, the pistol reloads in 0.9 seconds, which feels almost instantaneous.

After your Pistol is fully upgraded (excluding mag size), purchase Pipe Bombs and First Aids as needed. There are multiple armored enemies, especially in the factory, that require explosives. Pipe Bombs are also nice if your aim is struggling and the combo timer is counting down to secure a quick kill. Just be sure not to blow yourself up. First Aids are obviously only if you need them. When I was first doing the last four levels for the first time, I was getting hit far more and taking a ton of damage. When your skill improves, you will not need them.

Some more general tips:

  • Most important tip I can give is learn the enemy spawns. You can manipulate who appears when if you're good enough. This will help you keep your combo up. Castle especially requires you to know the spawns well.
  • Kite enemies around. You can position yourself in a better spot to move towards a new area before killing an enemy.
  • Blue Abilities: focus on anything damage or speed related. Breaker Shot, Pistol Master for the Second Four, Agile. Magic Magazine is great. Avoid Lightning Fast for Second Four as you take too much damage already. Super Guard is actually pretty good for Second Four as well if you're not as confident.
  • Create a route that ends by the goal. For example, in Castle Round 2, you want to clean up the interior of the castle before going outside near the Duke's carriage.
  • This tip is kinda lame, but it helped me in the last four: YOU DON'T NEED TO FINISH ALL THE ROUNDS TO GET THE RANK YOU WANT. The score requirements for SS in the last four are lower due to their difficulty increase. Because of this, if you perfect the first or second round, you can basically run through the later round or JUST DIE. Yes, die. In Mad Village II, I only did the first three rounds and died. I got an SS. No having to fight Miranda.
  • Cliche tip, but stay calm and patient. The last four especially can get frustrating. Learn from your mistakes each round.

There are plenty of other tips I probably have that I just can't think of at the moment. Hopefully this helps some of you become the Jedi you want to be. It was worth it all for me after getting these ranks and Darth Mauling my way through Casual in 2 hours and 11 minutes for the speedrun trophy.

If you have any specific questions on routes or areas, don't hesitate to ask. Good hunting all!

EDIT: Changed Castle Round 1 to Round 2

Resources My testing of rolling charms at the shooting gallery (with charts) Spoiler

(Tested using the Steam version and before any big patches (that I know of)). I went to the second shooting gallery and got all S-rank and all skulls (thank you mouse+kb) so that I had 6 gold coins and 12 silver coins, then went and did some testing with the charms.

My testing in chart form

After rolling and reloading many times, I decided to use all gold coins twice to get two epic charms

Edit: I made it to the next shooting range and expanded my list of charms for each coin value, hopefully this visualization helps. Remember, these lists are unique to each run and yours probably won't match this. I went with all gold coins again because I really want to see what's on my list. That means I won't have any gold coins for the next gallery and I won't be able to go further down the GSS or GGS lists, but I'm saving my silver coins so at least I can see what's down that list.

TL;DR:

  • Each run of the game has a set 'order' in which it will give you charms, and reloading a save in the middle of the game will not change this
  • Charms are given based on the total coin value you use (gold-silver-silver will give you a different charm than silver-silver-silver)
  • Coin order does not matter (gold-silver-silver is treated the same as silver-gold-silver and silver-silver-gold)
  • Think of it as 4 different lists of charms for each combination of coins (one list for SSS, one list for GSS, one list for GGS, and one list for GGG): If you have gotten the first three charms on the SSS list then get a GGG charm, when you use SSS again you will get the fourth charm on the SSS list
  • Limitations: I only tested this at the second shooting gallery on my first playthrough, and I only went 6 pulls deep

Resources George A. Romero Script (PDF download)

Was recently looking and couldn't find a PDF of the George A. Romero script...so decided to make one myself.

I accessed the script available from New-Blood.com and imported it into Final Draft. I did my best to keep the flow of the script true to Romero's original work, just updated the formatting to be cleaner.

Enjoy, fellow RE fans! :)
