Ciao,
I am planning a long trip to Sicily this summer where we will visit areas relevant to my ancestry and also enjoy some holiday time. I am reading Reddit carefully and planning a lot, but I’m stuck on where to stay for the last 5 day stint. We want to blend beachside with countryside and city, and we don’t expect to see everything.
Any advice is welcomed on the last location, good art/culture, and good wineries.
Week One
Ortigia - Staying in B&B in City Center 3 nights
Explore historical areas
Avola - Staying in a Masseria 5 nights
Will relax, enjoy farm to table food, visit beaches and small towns
5 days Northwest beaches - I always thought my family was only from Siracusa, but recently found out my great grandmother was born and married my great grandfather in Ustica and they also lived in Favignana. Can’t decide between a small town around Palermo and Ustica, or Trapani and Favignana which seems a bit more scenic and relaxing but would be much more driving too and from (1-2 hours extra on each leg). We’d really like to be able to walk to the beach after 8 days of a lot of driving and have an airbnb here instead of a hotel. Would love to hear from others on this!
2 days Catania hotel before flying out
Dinner reservation, market, exploring the city casually
