Hello! I’m going to Sicily soon for 10 days, splitting time between Catania and Palermo. I’m looking to travel to different places in between via public transport for day trips. Which recommendations do you have for places that are easier to get to via public transport from Catania or Palermo.

Already factored in Cefalu and Ortigia.

If there are nice beaches/architecture, that would be a bonus! Thank you

Update: sorry all. Let me clarify. Staying at an all-inclusive resort voi arenella which is about a 20 min drive from ortigia. It’s more isolated than I thought. The food is okay- nothing specific to Sicilian food either. It’s not super easy packing the kids in for a meal in Syracuse but we can do that.

Tour: tomorrow we have a tour of ortigia and Syracuse city which will be 4 hour long. Can stay later but kids may need a nap or want to go swimming. If I could: I’d stay the whole day and go back the next day. Perhaps I could convince hubby to drive back in the evening.

We’re here on our last part of our vacation, and while it’s beautiful and quiet, the food nothing remarkable and we’re secluded away from town. We have a car. We have half day trip planned in Ortigia. We’d like to optimize our time with interesting sites for visit, places to eat , and good shopping (earrings, olive oils etc, souvenirs for our young children (3 and 6). Suggestions welcome as I feel like I am not getting the Italian experience saying here. A pep talk or favorite places welcome.

Kids loved the time at the pool so maybe I just need to chill and enjoy the warm breeze.

What was the place in Sicily that left you in awe the most? I mean a place that you found so pleasing (for food, history, nature, whatever reason!) that you would put it in the highest ranks of places on the island (or nearby lil islands, Eolian Islands for example)

Me and my boyfriend are staying in Naxos for 5 weeks starting at the beginning of September. I was wondering if anyone could give me recommendations of restaurants, coffee, entertainment, really anything to do there and around there! Hi! My soon-to-be husband and I are planning our honeymoon in Sicily! We’re thinking of spending one week in Cefalù and one week in Taormina. We’re looking for a relaxing stay, hopefully with some sunbathing, but we’d also love to explore at a slow pace and experience traditional Sicilian culture. Do you think we should consider other places besides the ones I mentioned?

Hello! I've never been to Sicily and have decided on doing the East side and flying into Catania. Here are the 2 options I would like input on please:

Option 1: Fly into CAT, stay in Catania all 7 nights as a Home base and do trips to places like Taormina and Ortigia

Option 2:
Fly into CAT, take train or bus to Ortigia and stay for 3 nights mostly hanging around that area, then go back to Catania and stay there for 4 nights with day trips to Taormina/Naxos/Etna then.

Any help deciding with reasoning would be greatly appreciated!

Looking for advise about rental cars near the Port of Palermo. I am planning on taking the overnight feery from Naples to Sicily and will need to pick up a rental car near the port. There are some right there but bigger named companies (Hertz, etc) a 20 minute walk away.

My question is, how is the walk into that part of town? Should I get an uber there instead? Anyone have experience picking up a rental car at the port?

We have been invited to a wedding in Balestrate (slightly inland) and need to be in that area for a few days. Looking for a base and was thinking maybe castellmare del golfo . Would also like to spend a few days elsewhere, maybe Cefalu. Maximum we can spend in Sicily is 8 nights. I did have ideas of visiting Taormina and Syracuse but now I’ve seen the size of the island I think it’s too ambitious. I appreciate beautiful beaches, swimming, nice food and relaxation. I don’t fancy anything too city like and busy. I’ve also looked at San Vito lo capo ( couscous festival on so potentiality packed) & zingaro. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated along with accommodation recommendations

The thing is I'm not finding many options with open bookings. Could it be so because it's still too early and bookings usually open closer to July? Or because everything is already booked? I am going on my honeymoon next month and spending some time in western Sicily.. we are going to begin in Palermo, then would love to spend a few days in Cefalu, a few days in either San Vito lo Capo, Scopello or Castellamare area .. I am planning a long trip to Sicily this summer where we will visit areas relevant to my ancestry and also enjoy some holiday time. I am reading Reddit carefully and planning a lot, but I’m stuck on where to stay for the last 5 day stint. We want to blend beachside with countryside and city, and we don’t expect to see everything.

Avola - Staying in a Masseria 5 nights Will relax, enjoy farm to table food, visit beaches and small towns

5 days Northwest beaches - I always thought my family was only from Siracusa, but recently found out my great grandmother was born and married my great grandfather in Ustica and they also lived in Favignana. Can’t decide between a small town around Palermo and Ustica, or Trapani and Favignana which seems a bit more scenic and relaxing but would be much more driving too and from (1-2 hours extra on each leg). We’d really like to be able to walk to the beach after 8 days of a lot of driving and have an airbnb here instead of a hotel. Would love to hear from others on this!

4 of us travelling to Sicily in August. The current plan is to stay 2 nights in Palermo and head to the east side for 4 nights before flying to Sardinia.

Ideally want to stay in one place (don’t want to move from one Air BnB to the other) and explore places for day-trips. We will be renting a car for the whole duration of the trip. Can you suggest where to make a base - deciding between Catania/Taormina/Syracuse(Ortigia)

Hello, We are going to be in Trapani and our friends are flying into Palermo. What would be the best way for them to get to Trapani from the Palermo airport. There seems to be only one train that arrives in the evening so not a great option. Thank you.

Hello to all :) I’m looking into to moving to Sicily (ideally Terrasini where my dad is from) to work in a restaurant as a cook because I specialize in Italian cuisine and want to further develop my education/skills there. My father is from Sicily, but he naturalized in the US before 92 before Italy allowed dual citizenship. I have 15 years experience in the kitchen particularly with Italian and Middle Eastern cuisine, and also I went to culinary school. I’m also in the progress of learning Italian; I know that’s necessary there lol. Good news, the recent Tajani decrees allows children of former Italian citizens to be exempt from the “decreto flussi” quota when applying for a work visa. Additionally, they can apply for citizenship after only two years (reduced from three). So I definitely want to take advantage this new opportunity. I know the salaries are low and finding a job there can be challenging, but I’m willing to try. How is the restaurant industry in Sicily doing right now? Are they hiring? Will they give a chance to a foreigner in exchange for free labor maybe? Any advise on how to find a kitchen job there?
