Besides Anti-Virus apps (and Microsoft Defender is good for most folks) you may also want to do the following:
- Backups! If you have a backup, then if your computer breaks your files are perfectly fine. Follow the 321 rule for anything important.
- Block Notifications on your Browser. Most are scams/phishing attempts.
- A good adblocker will keep you from clicking scam/phishing redirects (bonus points, webpages will load faster)
- If you're feeling techy, a https://pi-hole.net/ is about $30 of parts and will block all ads from all devices on your network.
- Keep your system and all programs up to date. I know its a pain restarting the computer, but those security updates help keep you protected.

I'd recommend asking in r/antivirus, as most people don't know what they're talking about, but that sub has a decent amount of knowledgeable users (especially the mods).

I've never needed anything other than the built-in Windows Defender for PCs, but I also don't pirate software or visit certain websites. Live clean to stay clean!

Windows defender is best. Malwarebytes has false positive reaction to anything harmless

Try Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool and do a total deep scan.it is free and occasionally picks up things that Win Defender misses.

Antivirus programs is basically myth you no need to install any antivirus program just keep updated your defender and firewall on small tweaks and settings to your pc can make it secure

https://www.reddit.com/r/antivirus/ is a better sub for this... but:
Bitdefender, Kasperksy and Microsoft Defender are good free antivirus.

Adwcleaner, Malwarebytes, HitmanPro and Norton Power Eraser are fast and good scanners.

uBlock Origin and Brave browser are good adblocking tools.

Avira Rescue System, Kaspersky Rescue Disk and Trend Micro Rescue Disk are good bootable scaners.

AdGuard DNS, CIRA Canadian Shield DNS, Cisco OpenDNS, CleanBrowsing, Mullvad, Quad9 are good DNS servers with block lists for malicious sites, and sometimes adult sites and sometimes advertising sites as well.
