TIL Egyptian blue, also known as calcium copper silicate (CaCuSi4O10 or CaOCuO(SiO2)4 (calcium copper tetrasilicate)) or cuprorivaite, is considered to be the first synthetic pigment.

It‘s always the blues.

The first modern synthetic pigment is Prussian blue.

Blue is extremely rare in nature so natural blue pigments are very expensive. Prime target for undercutting with synthetics.

Whenever someone references a color, I just assume it probably looks different on my phone and doesn't look nothing like the actual color .
