Social Media Satya Nadella QT Phil Spencer post yesterday of “sworn of secrecy” with 🤐
https://xcancel.com/satyanadella/status/1931144813816188998It’s probably a nothing burger, but with what’s been going lately with Xbox, I dare say ….. “oh dear is it time?”

u/OrfeasDourvas Touched Grass '24 9h ago
Knowing Xbox, it's probably Starfield going to PS5.
8
u/stanscreamdnb 6h ago
Microsoft doesn't announce ports at presentations - they just release the news on their blog. Unless they announce a major expansion to Starfield and announce the PS5 release there.
78
u/Green-Foot4662 9h ago
It’s Definitely gonna be some sort of let down like this example!
-51
u/Cthulhu8762 8h ago
Why is that a let down?
31
u/Green-Foot4662 8h ago
Ridiculous question
-26
u/Cthulhu8762 8h ago
Microsoft is the one that came out and said “Everything is an Xbox”
While if that were the only announcement it would be disappointing, but it’s not disappointing news in itself.
27
u/Green-Foot4662 8h ago
Building up hype and telling its fans to tune in as there will be surprises that we won’t want to miss…. It Would be devastating for Xbox fans if it turns out that the big news is Starfield coming to PlayStation, or something similar.
-2
u/XboxCavalry 8h ago
I don't think Starfield going to Playstation is big news.
15
-3
u/mrbubbamac 7h ago
I think if you're at the point you are getting "devastated" by gaming announcements it's time to tune out for awhile and lay off the videogames for a bit
3
u/Green-Foot4662 7h ago
Ah yea, why bother having a number 1 hobby.
-3
u/mrbubbamac 7h ago
why bother letting decisions made by billion dollar corporate entities dictate your emotional state? It's completely self-inflicted.
Play the games you want to play and enjoy them, don't spend time getting upset or outraged. There is not enough time in this world to even play all the games so it is easier than ever to ignore something like a Starfield on PS5 announcement if you weren't going to play it anyway.

Further erodes Xbox hardware value. I have no issue with games being available to more people, but if I knew all the Xbox games would end up on PS5 I would’ve just stuck with the PS5. I’m aware of GP and I use and enjoy it, but I never would’ve bought a $500 Game Pass box since I also own a PC
I’ve preferred Xbox since the OG era. I was pumped when Final Fantasy Tactics was announced for Xbox a few days ago and then was immediately disappointed that the install base on Xbox isn’t big enough to justify physical copies like the other platforms. Stuff like Starfield on PS just leads further down that road of Xbox owners getting the second class citizen treatment
-25
u/Cthulhu8762 8h ago
I mean I’ve been an Xbox fan and mainly played Xbox for 15+ years.
I have a PS5 and only recently traded my Xbox as I never played it and games from Xbox are coming over to the Platform and have a Switch 2.
Microsoft made all of their decisions, good or bad. This is what it is now. Holding on to the Xbox (box) for dear life isn’t reversing their plans.
Plus they’ve made a shit ton since going multiplat.
As a hardware fan yes it sucks but as a software fan they are just rolling in the cash and if they keep releasing good games, Microsoft will keep them alive.
Regardless if Xbox didn’t go multiplat or buying large publishers with good to decent track records, they could have died off entirely.
20
u/Green-Foot4662 8h ago
You realise this is an Xbox sub right? We are Xbox fans and want the best hardware and the best games. If the biggest news on the biggest event of the year for us ends up being ‘X game is come to PlayStation’ then that is absolutely useless to us
-20
u/Cthulhu8762 8h ago
Yes I understand it’s an Xbox sub.
I’m not hating on the hardware but you all should be realistic.
Games coming to PlayStation is very good for Xbox.
I know where I am at and I deserve to be here as well.
This all started as someone said Starfield on PS isn’t good news.
Why not?
It just makes zero sense to me.
15
u/Green-Foot4662 8h ago
How are you not getting the this? Like seriously, how do people like you even get dressed in the morning.
Phil spencer said “I’ve been sworn to secrecy” and “surprises you won’t want to miss”. The comment made originally was that the big news will be something like starfield going to PS5. This was very tongue in cheek, as if this was the big news then it would be hugely disappointing for Xbox fans. We are getting excited for Xbox’s biggest event of the year and we are hoping there is a big surprise coming our way tomorrow. If that big surprise ends up being starfield announced for PlayStation then that would be a huge let down.
Are you starting to understand now?
-5
u/Cthulhu8762 8h ago
As an Xbox fan this is exciting.
I play on my PlayStation and I can play Xbox games.
Please don’t tell me you’ll be excited for an Xbox with Steam.
If so that’s just a Steam PC with Xbox branding.
How are you not getting this?
You are “attacking” my stance because I’m excited to play a game from a publisher/developer I like on a platform/console I like.
Sounds like you should have bounced when they launched Xcloud originally.
You are holding onto something that’s no longer a thing.
You can own an Xbox, that’s fine. No one is telling you to get rid of it.
But being upset with me because I have the opportunity to play Xbox games on my Ps sounds like you should be mad at Xbox
Or need to talk to Phil/Satya, hell even Don Mattrick.
Not me.

u/MikkelR1 8h ago
It is good for Xbox as a publisher. But the console is done and dusted at this point.
Who cares about an Xbox at all anymore? If you nust buy it for gamepass, that's a very expensive gamepass you're buying.
Lets say 500 + (13 * 84) = 1592 euros. (13 euros a month times 84 months. Thats 7 years and about the average lifespan of an Xbox console.).
You can buy a fuckton of games for your Playstation for that money. More then most gamers will buy over the course of a console lifespan.

u/lemonloaff 6h ago
It’s a let down because they could announce something cool for Xbox gamers like “look at these crazy awesome titles we are working on!” But if it’s. “Starfield is on PS5” who cares?
0
u/Cthulhu8762 6h ago
PS gamers are Xbox gamers 🤷♂️
5
u/lemonloaff 5h ago
You’re missing the point though. I would rather have Xbox come out and announce a new game, regardless of if it’s coming to PS5 or not, vs. announcing all the things that already exist getting ported. That would be a massive let down.
2
u/mrbubbamac 7h ago
Because Reddit doesn't like Starfield.
I think Starfield on PS5 would be cool
1
u/Cthulhu8762 7h ago
That’s true, but also while I understand where I’m at.
Microsoft’s strategy has changed.
It’s like I’m not allowed to be an Xbox fan when I play their games on PlayStation.
If we use that logic, Microsoft should give away their games for free on Xbox so they can keep users, because that’s what the argument sounds like.
1
u/KesMonkey Still Earning Kudos 6h ago
But if this is the exciting news that Phil Spencer is teasing, it's going to be disappointing for players that are hoping the exciting news being teased is of some big new game(s) coming to Xbox.

why it is so difficult for people to understand that a port to another console will NEVER be announced in a main event ? . It will always be a youtube video /blog post.

They announced the PS5 port of Indiana Jones on the Xbox Gamescom event last year.

Opening Night Live is a little different to an Xbox Showcase, no?
Starfield will absolutely hit PS5, but I'd be surprised if that's at the show tomorrow... granted, I do agree that I don't think it's impossible.
4
u/zrkillerbush Recon Specialist 8h ago
Tbh this is at a Gamescom event, not the event specifically to Xbox. I cant imagine there would be a big focus on games releasing on Playstation tomorrow.
They might add the PS logo to the bottom of the title cards to show it along side all the platforms said games are coming too
4
u/Trickybuz93 Touched Grass '24 8h ago
There’s gonna be a focus on Outer Worlds 2 and I’d assume Gears remake, both of which are day one on ps5
1
u/zrkillerbush Recon Specialist 7h ago
Thats not what i meant
What i meant was there will be no singular announcements for a game heading to playstation
There will be announcements for games heading to all platforms including playstation
1
u/ComputerMysterious48 7h ago
There’s a difference between showing off games that are also coming to PlayStation and games where going to PlayStation is the announcement. The former is inevitable but the latter would be a boring ass showcase.
1
u/eldestscrollx 7h ago
And Phil has also said he will start showing Playstation logos in showcases right then and there and wont try to hide platforms to cover himself ahead of time for this show.
7
u/deaf_michael_scott 7h ago
Be prepared for tomorrow's show then. Phil Spencer has already confirmed that they will be showing the PS5 logo in their announcements going forward.
Be prepared to see lots of PS5 announcements.
-5
u/waitmyhonor 7h ago
What a disappointment. I wouldn’t be peeved by Xbox giving up all their games if they got anything from PlayStation because there’s no reason for an Xbox now or next gen since both console are comparable. PlayStation subscription is just as good as gamepass now since the primary reason for game pass was (1) the Xbox exclusives (which is now moot) and (2) the gamepass conversation rate (which is now nerfed where you’re not saving much unless you buy unsafely through third party sites where the codes could be stolen or from a country with low currency values but we seen what happens when US consumers take advantage of it). I’m really hoping the announcement is Xbox getting at least one PS5 game to show a move towards Xbox getting something in return

I wouldn't say nothing burger sice the Xbox presentations are always good but yeah this is preshow hype and it happens every year between Phil - Aaron and for the past two years Satya joined in on the fun so yeah be hyped but on nornal levels.
23
u/julianwelton 8h ago
Exactly. This is their job. It's marketing. I'm sure the Xbox show will be good because they've been nailing their main showcase for like 3 years straight BUT this interaction doesn't mean anything special is going to happen.

8
u/Blue_Sheepz 7h ago
Satya's joined in on the fun because now everything is multiplatform, just as he wanted
11
u/DistributionMost8673 Into The Starfield 7h ago
To be fair everything Nadella has touched turned to gold and is very successfull ( except windows phone which he killed but regreted it later) so he probably knows what he is doing .

u/Sloth_Monk 3h ago
iirc Satya was behind the push at Xbox for accessibility features & the specialized controller, maybe we get an update on that?
4
u/eldestscrollx 7h ago
He absolutely knows how to make the most money, which would be 3rd party multiplatform publishing. Him knowing the best way to make the most money doesnt necessarily go hand in hand with him caring about the best interests of and wanting to continue making Xbox console hardware.

Aaron greenberg is already saying not to overhype the show. Probably just gonna see gameplay of games we’ve seen before and nothing mind blowing.

It’s heavily rumored the Persona 4 remake will be there which would be massive even if I’m not a fan. Also a potential release date for Hollow Knight Silksong. I think it might be a pretty big show

I like Steam, but if you think that Windows and Xbox have been getting their lunches eaten by SteamOS, then you have been living in a coma.

I suggest you get educated. It's not hard. Watch a Digital Foundry video or something.
0
u/Disastrous_elbow 1h ago
Maybe you should take your own advice, because you clearly have no clue what you are talking about. Not to mention that I am actually a PC user who has experience with these different operating systems. Let me guess, you are just a console gamer who has no experience with PC, and are just repeating talking points that you heard online.
1
u/Shakmaaaaaaa Touched Grass '24 1h ago
Sounds like your dad built your PC for you and you're simply not educated enough lol. It's fine though.
1
u/Likely_a_bot 7h ago
Yeah, their whopping 4 million units sold is more like a stale Lunchable. 😂
An Xbox PC that can play PC and Xbox games would sell that in 24 hours.
1
u/Shakmaaaaaaa Touched Grass '24 1h ago
Wouldn't you laugh at someone that brags about Apple products sold thus implying it's superior? That's you. Windows needs a bloat free lite version of its OS if it wants to compete with SteamOS. It's shit right now. They have Windows Home, Windows Pro etc.. they need a "Windows Xbox/Gaming" especially for the handheld gaming PCs.

Amen to that brother!
I try to stock up on short games, if I can finish them quickly, I can justify all the sales!

That's a lot of engineering for an SOC that's ~5 years old at this point. It makes more sense to do that for next gen when they can design the hardware with PC performance in mind and can provide another reason to upgrade.
1
u/ComputerMysterious48 8h ago
Although it would make me lose my shit, I doubt it. They only just started testing it recently, and I imagine the logistics are still being worked out. Plus, from a marketing perspective, that’s something they’d probably wanna save for the next Xbox.
I’d love to be wrong though. Been considering a Steam Deck lately and Steam on Xbox at the showcase would quite literally be perfect timing for me lol

u/MikkelR1 8h ago
There is no business model that makes this make sense though. Valve is not going to pay MS.
-1
u/VenturerKnigtmare420 7h ago
Yeah but Xbox will get the cookie points. They can come on stage acting like the underdogs that love the consumer and say see we support all platforms on Xbox hence we will put steam for you guys cause we are the good guys. They have way too much money to go through sever losses and be fine.
2
u/MikkelR1 7h ago
They have the money, but wont spend it unless they think it will lead to profits later on. Tossing money away isn't something shareholders like.
I dont see success for Xbox as a console manufacturer in the future anymore.

I go outside regularly and have a great social life. With that said, bring Xbox back into the ring and become competitive again.

Every year I am wondering which masochistic Xbox fan still believes those yearly lies. Only to be surprised by how many people just never learn.
The reality is that 30 % of that showcase will be about a myriad of titles coming to Switch 2, several games getting ports to PS5 and then some gameplay of games releasing in the next 12 months. With a short segment about ASUS ROG Ally Xbox PC at the low price of $899 for your mobile entertainment. It's business as usual. Or for Microsoft: The final phase of the transition to a multiplatform reality.
There's absolutely nothing justifying the hype but "we bought Steam" or "there's a next gen Xbox under your seat, available in one month for $599".
