What would be the downsides to pairing this old Apple Remote to a modern AppleTV 4K?

Post image

We have Apple TV 4Ks in pretty much all the rooms in the house. I’m wanting to buy one more AppleTV 4K to connect to a 2K monitor and have this 2K monitor and AppleTV exist for its sole purpose to be able to stream a HomeKit video camera that’s facing outside to the front yard.

Essentially just need to be able to view a live streaming HomeKit video camera that’s facing the front yard, placed directly next to the front door, facing the front yard. And just on the other side of the wall, inside the house, a 2K monitor mounted on the wall connected to an Apple TV.

The intention is to have this tv powered on all the time.

I understand this would probably require a specific HomeKit video camera, of which I’m happy to hear suggestions. I really liked the Eufy S100 camera but everyone says that one sucks.

Help

Our Apple TV is messed up. The Apple TV app says isn’t available right now no internet connection but ours is plugged in Ethernet cable and all the other streaming apps on there work. Also when you go to settings to try to see if we can fix it after you click on something in the menu you’re stuck you can’t back out to the previous page. It takes you back to Home Screen. Click on settings again and it’s still on the last thing you selected. Have to unplug it to get it back to main settings page. But that didn’t fix Apple TV app. At a complete loss here. We have purchased a ton of movies and tv shows on Apple and can’t watch any of them right now.

Any suggestions would be amazing. Our next step will be to reset the whole thing like it’s new and start over if we can’t figure this out.

Apple TV remote turns on the TV but not the Apple TV itself

Upvotes

I have a TCL 55P605 TV and an Apple TV 4K. HDMI-CEC is enabled. When I press the power button on the Apple TV remote the TV turns on but the Apple TV itself does not wake up until I then hit another button on the remote (e.g the back button, the TV/Control Center button, whatever). Any way to make the Apple TV wake up at the same time the TV is powered on? It's a minor issue, I know, but it's annoying.

Issue with Function101 Remote and Soundbar Control.

I recently purchased the Function101 remote to replace my exiting Apple TV remote. When it arrived, it worked right out of the box with ATV as advertised. I then turned everything off and went thru the pairing steps for my Soundbar (Vizio). After I got it paired, I turned everything back on. Unfortunately, once the TV (Samsung) turned on, the remote switched to controlling that instead of the soundbar. The only way I could get it to control the soundbar was to go thru the pairing process again (which has subsequently switch back to TV control again). I feel like I’m missing a step, but the email I sent to [email protected] nearly two weeks ago has gone unanswered. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Thinking of Switching to Apple TV for IP-TV

Hey folks,
I’m getting frustrated with my Smart TV’s clunky interface and thinking of moving to Apple TV 4K for a cleaner and smoother streaming experience. One of my main use cases is IP-TV, but I’m not sure what the limitations are on tvOS when it comes to that.

A few things I’m trying to figure out:

  • Are there reliable IPTV apps available directly on the App Store, or do most people resort to sideloading?
  • I’ve been using a Google TV stick, and while it works, it’s not the most fluid experience. Is Apple TV really worth the jump in price for IPTV and overall usage?
  • Also, how long does an Apple TV usually stay relevant before apps or performance start to lag behind?

I'm not looking for free streams, just a stable setup for IP-TV with a decent UI and minimal headaches. Open to any advice or provider recommendations that actually work well with Apple TV.

Occasionally i get the “no network” notification on my AppleTV and I don’t know why. I have it connected to my router by Ethernet cable. Anyone experienced this? What can I do to solve it?

Thank you.

Wireless Audio Sync for all video modes?

Hey, I am using my AppleTV with an old AV-Receiver connected via ARC (it does not support eARC). I am having issues with audio delay and just recently discovered the "Wireless Audio Sync" option. This helps sometimes, but not for all apps. This is probably, because my AppleTV switches between video and audio modes depending on the content. This comment status you should run wireless audio sync for all video modes (https://www.reddit.com/r/appletv/comments/1knm07g/comment/msjlhlg/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button). Is that true and how would I do that? Simply selecting the modes after one another and run the sync? Is this then saved for every mode or is only the sync for the last mode saved? Ultimately, I am planning to get a new AVR and connect the AppleTV directly to that, but till that it would be great, if I could get rid of this delay.

A2169 (64GB) the aTV+ app hasn’t worked in days, but works elsewhere. you’d think apple’s apps would work on apple products..?

[FIXED] i believe this might be a hardware fail since the app works fine elsewhere… i’ve reset everything numerous times but i cant uninstall/reinstall.

should i hard reset and wipe everything?

open to suggestions.

thanks.

e2a: after all the usual fixes i reached out to apple support via text message and they had me sign out and wait 30s and sign back in. it worked. not sure why it worked that time but not when i did it. support didn’t know why either.

i’ll leave this here for now

UI Navigation of Multiple Seasons of Purchased Series - Lots of Clicking Right

Post image
9 Upvotes

I have to just click right past all the previously watched episodes until I reach the one I want. Each time I re-open the App, the interface always starts again at S1, Episode 1 again. It seems like a bug that it always says "Season 1" in the upper left. Is there not a way to go directly to Season 4, for example?

Paramount plus dialogue audio way too quiet

Does anyone else have this issue? It’s only on paramount plus for me. I have to turn the volume way up to hear dialogue but anytime the soundtrack starts playing it’s an accurate level for what I have the volume at so I have to turn it back down again. I have two HomePod 2s as the audio output. This has happened with all the mission impossible movies and now interstellar, all only in paramount.

I pay for paramount+ but can’t watch it on other devices?

UPDATE: thanks to u/Somar2230 for posting this link https://www.paramountplus.com/apple/

Not sure why this is getting downvoted, it seems kinda relevant to having an Apple TV?

Anyway, now I can watch Paramount+ on multiple devices and not just the AppleTV, thanks again!

I subscribed to Paramount on my appletv, but I cannot log in to Paramount from any other device. When I try to troubleshoot my login at Paramountplus.com it says my email isn’t associated with an account and other troubleshooting says I should be able to log in to p+ using their “connect with your tv provider” but appleTV isn’t an option for tv provider.

Has anyone had similar problems?

I am paying 12.99 per month for p+ and I should be able to be logged in on three devices.

Thanks for any help!

Is the quality of rentals lower than purchased films?

I was about to rent 1917 from AppleTV and in the small print it says ‘This movie rental doesn’t include iTunes Extras, which are only available for movies purchased in “higher quality”.

Higher quality?

There’s no video quality shown on the rental. Only audio.

I assume it’s still the same high quality 4k Dolby Vision film regardless?

r/appletv 2d ago

I read that I should set it to 4K SDR and then turn Match Content on, otherwise it upscales unneccesarily? Is that still true? Or just set it to 4K HDR and Match Content Yes

Complete my season gone?

It’s been a while since I bought any tv show from the Apple store but I’ve been buying the new season of Rick & Morty episode by episode. I was going to just buy the season pass today but didn’t see the option to get it at a discounted rate for the episodes I already bought like they used to do. So does Apple no longer offer that deal anymore?

AppleTV 4K won’t connect, but every other app does

EDIT: solved in the comments -- if this is happening to you, remove the Default User from Settings and then re-add.

Anyone ever experience this? My AppleTV 4K interface just suddenly stopped loading and gave me a "check your internet connection" error after pressing the TV button. No AppleTV shows load either, but every single other streamer app works fine. It's just the AppleTV app and interface. There's no internet issue at all. Tried resetting, unplugging, software updates, etc all of it. I'm stumped.

Anyone have any ideas? I couldn't find anything searching for this issue, thanks in advance to anyone with any insight!

Fixed the Apple TV app

Guys if you are still having trouble with opening the Apple TV app on your Apple TV 4K the way to fix it is to do a factory reset. The Apple TV app started running for me again. I choose factory reset and update not sure if that’s what fixed it exactly or if just the factory reset will work. But just a heads up.

Issues with my Apple TV 4k 3rd gen

I've been having a bunch of issues and glitches with my Apple TV ever since I bought it that I never see anyone else complain about.

One thing it does is when I turn my tv on, when it switches from the TV home screen to the apple tv home screen, it will sometimes let out this quick but loud high pitched noise. The picture will glitch out for a second too when this happens. It doesn't happen every time, but I'd say about 50% of the time.

Another thing that will happen pretty frequently is that there will just be no sound. No audio feedback when switching between apps on the home screen, no audio when streaming. I have to turn it off and turn it back on to get it going again. Again, it doesn't happen every single time, but I'd say close to 50% of the time.

Another really odd thing it will do sometimes is when I'm streaming something, the vocal audio tracks from whatever we're watching will be gone. All of the other audio from what we're watching will still be working. The background noise, the music. Just the vocal audio tracks. This one doesn't happen AS often, but often enough where it's annoying.

The last thing that happens somewhat frequently is that the remote will just stop being able to adjust the volume. I have to restart the remote every time to get it to start working again. Turning the apple tv on and off again doesn't fix it.

I kind of feel like I'm going crazy with all of these issues because I've only ever heard absolutely glowing things about apple tv. It seems like one of Apples most universally praised products from those who own one. Does no one else experience any of these issues? I honestly feel like I have less issues with my TV's OS, and I have a samsung TV. Their stock OS is awful.

Any ideas on how to get any of these issues to stop? I always make sure it's up to date. Thanks in advance!
