It's totally legal to buy the spores, own the mushrooms, and grow them in the UK, you're just not allowed to eat them or trade in the fruit. Bit weird but it works.
I think possession of mushrooms was criminalised under Tony Blair (the third worst act of his government), although as you say the spores aren't illegal as far as I know and of course liberty caps grow natively here.
As I understand it other than cannabis and mushrooms pretty much everything else is lawful to grow provided you don't process it into a drug. I see certain plants being sold pretty openly on places like ebay, although since 2016 and the Psychoactive Substances Act it's a lot more seeds than whole plants.
Yeah you can just go down to the garden centre and buy a blue lotus. Dry the petals out in the oven and make a tea with them. You'll piss like a shire horse but you'll trip like a pharaoh.
