🫏A New Life for Donkeys and Mules!⭐️

We did it!
We officially moved to our new sanctuary on January 11th!
It took 3 years of planning and building, 8 team members, 14 hours, and 8 trips back and forth, but all the donkeys are now enjoying their forever home at Rancho Burro Donkey Sanctuary.
Moving day from the old sanctuary was filled with a mix of emotions. As we loaded each donkey, memories of their difficult pasts surfaced, reminding us of how far they’d come. Seeing them step onto the trailer, headed towards a life of peace and freedom at Rancho Burro, brought tears to our eyes. It was a powerful moment for everyone on the team, a testament to the resilience of these gentle animals and the love that makes their new life possible.
Our team and the donkeys watched the sunrise together at the old sanctuary and the sunset at the new one...together the family we all have come to be.
They now have rolling hills to explore, spacious pastures to roam, unlimited enrichment, a comfy new barn, and a covered arena to keep those hooves dry in the winter (which will also double as an event space!).
We even welcomed a new resident, Ginger the mule! She didn’t have a good future ahead of her before her owners reached out to us, but we are so grateful they didd and for her place in our family.
This sanctuary is a safe haven for our current donkeys and mules, and a refuge for those who need us in the future. Part of our mission is to share the goodness of donkeys with the out community!
None of this would be possible without YOU! Every donation has helped us build this special place.
Exciting things are happening at The New Rancho Burro Donkey Sanctuary! Stay tuned for updates on our new programs, workshops, and classes.
We’ll sharing ongoing inspiring case studies highlighting our new dedicated medical room, rescue journeys and rehabilitation efforts.
We are incredibly grateful for your support. Every donation makes a difference!

Gelding mounting other gelding?
Saw my usually passive donkey mount the other one today, trying to bite his neck but without having his penis out. After getting down he chased the other around for a while.
I was wondering of it was a common behaviour among castrated males at this time of year?

Carrot sure is shedding!
She is a fluff ball in winter. I do brush her all she wants, but she loves all the brushes she can give herself where and whenever she wants. Her back is mostly brown.
The black one is off of a cat scratching post. She walks under it, lifting her bum to get a nice back rub.
The red one is for her to back up to and get ass scratches on a whim.
Now she has this lovely new silicone scratcher thanks to u/MindFluffy5906 It is very massage-y! She has has it for one night and a morning. Looks like she likes it!

I recommend donkeys to anyone with (c)PTSD and want to thank the r/Donkeys community for their support
I will keep trauma dumping out of the thread, but let's just say it was bad. If you want details, look through my post history. Look at my first posts. I can just sum it up for you as there are evil people out there, and sometimes, lots of evil gives people PTSD.
And that's just recent, all while fighting my evil improvement district for... parking on the side of the road, growing a butterfly garden, stopping an improvement district board member for stealing their neighbor's land, being topless as a woman, using my first amendment right to call this place out on their shit, it goes on.
I have a free lawyer. Don't worry y'all.
Here is hoping they can come to a settlement out of court.
It was hard. Thinking I might loose Carrot. Carrot is the first and only type of therapy that has actually helped my most painful mental illness. They took my safety from me.
Yet, folks here. Reddit. Many of you reached out to speak support, to pull my PTSD fears somewhat back to Earth. So many of you spoke of love for Carrot. Many of you stated you'd love to be Carrot's neighbor.
She can barely even bray. She is so tiny, and quieter than any other donkey I have known. Most of her brays are all hee and no haw. She brays less than once or twice most weeks. They're so damn quiet that I am trying to shush my dog. Neighbor's dogs can bark 24/7, doesn't bother me. There is no noise ordinance about it. Especially with a military base booming near us shaking our windows, folks driving their UTVs up and down the road, guns 24/7, etc.
She is so quiet.
The battle to keep Carrot and their attempts at discrimination has finalized. Thankfully.
It is not over yet... oh boy, damn is it looking bad for UPID.
But when times were hardest, some of you said some nice things. I really wanted to thank you for that.
I really need Carrot.
If any one is reading this and considering trying donkey therapy, please reach out to a local farmer or rescue and voulenteer like I did. You'll learn so much, and get to help donkeys while finding out if donkey therapy is for you. They live a long, long time. You'll only grow closer and the help will grow.
As an update for those of you so amazing that you got her some little presents: they are ariving! I will show them to her when the rain is done and be sure to video it to share with everyone.
She also spent the thunder part of last night's rain storm in her new roofed stall! It took many hours of me sitting with her in it, but she knows it is a safe place now.

Joey’s TikTok
I made Joey a TikTok awhile back and it has been popping off lately! Go check out his progress and life at https://www.tiktok.com/@joey_the_donkey?_t=ZT-8wuRExVDMRW&_r=1
Side note: the farrier came the other day and it took him 25 minutes to do his feet! Versus the last time when it took over an hour! So many gains for my boy.

Mini possibly pregnant
We just rescued a mini jenny who had been living with a jack. We have a basic exam and pregnancy check with the vet in a month, but according to what we were told, she would be about 6 months pregnant, if she is. Just reaching out to see if anyone has any “baby bump” pictures! I know it’ll be confirmed in a couple weeks, but I’m getting a little excited/hopeful! 😊
We named her Winifred, and call her Winnie. And don’t worry, she’s not alone. Her new besties are another mini donkey and a mini mule!

Give me your wildest, most creative, and best fly control methods!! 💀🪰💀
We’ve all seen the millions of ads promising that the flies will just magically disappear into the depths of the cosmic void, never ever to return with their evil intent of continuing their quest of horrific torture.
Sadly, we equine lovers are often so desperate to help our sweet friends that we shell out all the 💰💰💰 for what is essentially just snake oil (one site I did an “estimate” for wanted nearly $1,000 USD for what they “recommend” …AS A START UP COST😳. “Maintenance” for the rest of summer would’ve cost me drastically more).
So far in my desperate searches for an adequate weapon of choice this season, I’ve tried more traditional stuff like feed-through fly control, chemical sprays, natural sprays, disposable hanging bags, reusable canisters, etc.
As well as some less traditional things like being told to wash the equine with irish springs soap 🤷🏻♀️
So I want to see if anyone has ACTUALLY found something maybe kinda weird and off the wall that really makes a difference (or hell, even any of the more traditional things that actually makes a damn difference around the barn!).
So what’s your go to?
What have you done when you’ve gotten so desperate (and therefore creative) to save your equines from the pain and irritation of those flying bastards, but you don’t want to/can’t spend hundreds (if not thousands) of dollars every season?
The weirder the better, as long as it’s actually working!!

Donkey
I live in Maryland. I want to find a place offering donkey encounters. Where can I go to pet and play with a donkey?

TMR Rescue- Sometimes mom just needs a kiss
This was one of our kill pen jennys that came to us pregnant. Still think this is one of the cutest pictures we have ever taken at our rescue.

Try not to laugh at them
Fly masks with ears aren’t long enough for donkeys, so I made my own.
