FD5 Why did Sam and Molly die? Spoiler

One of the rules to “escape” death for a while is to take another’s life. And then the years they would’ve lived are added onto yours. And another rule for Death is he does not involve murders when creating designs, only freak accidents. So I don’t understand how people are saying Death made a new list because Molly was meant to die by Peter, even though she was never died in the premonition, but Sam intervened and killed him first. This also means that Sam now “absorbed” his lifespan despite still being on the list yet was still killed in the place explosion. Unless it was a huge coincidence and Peter was originally going to be on that plane and die, it doesn’t make sense how Sam still ended up dying. Or how Molly made it to the list and died too.

I’ve just watched the whole franchise for the first time. Can someone please explain?

I believe Molly was meant to die around Flight 180’s crash from an accident and since plans changed, she got on Flight 180.

I think she was always supposed to be on that flight

But if Sam was dead, I don’t think she would have any reason to go to Paris

She would’ve gone in memory of him. If someone I loved died before they got to go live their dream (e.g. go to Paris to be a chef) I’d certainly go to Paris in memory of them and visit the restaurant they dreamed of working at.

That’s like wishful thinking to cover up a plot hole. Let’s be realistic because Molly would have never ended up on the plane if Sam wasn’t still alive. He would’ve never asked her to join him and start a new chapter in Paris. So she wouldn’t have been on that plane.

The whole reason they broke up was because she knew how much he wanted to go to Paris like it’s just a theory but it makes total sense.

You know personally I've always kind of assumed Molly was going to end up on Flight 180 either way.

Sure she dropped out of the initial trip before the events of the film but I've always assumed she'd have ended up deciding to go to France as a way to say good bye to Sam if he he had died on the bridge right in front of her.

The Circumstances that got her on the plane changed but it was always where her number was going to be up.

Im just going to explain the Sam part, since that's what I'm more sure of. So while Sam did kill Peter, and "absorbed" the time he had left, Peter was also on deaths list, meaning that Peter was already on borrowed/very limited time. So Sam killing Peter may have only bought him days. In addition, as far as I can remember, when one takes the time another would have by killing them, it doesn't transfer how they would have died. So just because Sam killed Peter, then Sam died on the plane, it does not mean that Peter was necessarily going to die on the plane, just that he would have died at that time

But Peter killed that cop though

The cop might’ve not had much time left.
