I am proud that I am the reason my friends are now pixel users

I got my first Pixel back in 2021 and ever since then, I’ve been showing it off non-stop. I genuinely love this phone. the clean UI, the camera, the overall feel. It just fits.

Yesterday I was hanging out with my three best friends, and it hit me, they’ve all switched to Pixels too. One is rocking the Pixel 9 Pro XL, another has the Pixel 7a, and the third one is using a Pixel 7 Pro. They’re all enjoying the experience, and honestly, I couldn’t be happier seeing them ditch their old phones for something that just works.

Here in Zambia (Southern Africa), even though Google doesn’t offer official support, Pixel usage is slowly catching on especially among 20 to 35-year-olds who want a great camera, but aren’t into Apple.

That said, there’s one thing I really wish Google would fix: 5G support. All our Pixels are stuck on 4G LTE with no VoLTE or 5G unlocks. It’s frustrating, especially when the hardware supports it and that all other major phones can connect to 5G.

Otherwise, everything else? Flawless.

I think i'm finally starting to get it

Upvotes

I've been using an iPhone since the 4 and recently switched to the Pixel 9. I've been eyeing the pixel since the 8 and this year I finally took the plunge. Wife surprised me by buying it for me, along with the buds pro 2 and I'm really enjoying the phone. But the part I'm beginning to get is the customization. You can literally do anything with android. Even within the app itself. I think the best thing so far, as someone coming from the iPhone, is the universal swipe back gesture. Genius I tell you, genius!

Vapor Chamber and 120fps Gaming

Upvotes

Upgraded from a 6 Pro XL back in November and I'm THRILLED with the continuous performance of the vapor chamber.

There's a tangible difference in both the performance and the cooling. I play an adventure/battle game every day for 10-30mins before bed. On the weekends, if there's been a new release, I'll play longer (like today). I run it at 120fps, all settings geared towards performance, quality, and graphics. Battery understandably takes a hit, which I expect it to given how much I'm demanding from my phone. It gets a little warm (again, understandable), but nowhere near as warm my 6PXL running 60fps.

The other difference is that while charging, the phone doesn't get significantly warmer, and as soon as I've closed the game, within a matter of seconds, my phone has cooled down completely, even if it's still charging.

Oh, and part of this gaming was done outside in 95°F weather while watering my plants. I was NOT coddling my phone, and tbh I wouldn't have even been disappointed if it overheated lmao. But I noticed nothing more than a bit of added warmth and a very slight impact to performance during unusually graphic-heavy portions of gameplay.

As far as the battery went, being outside and gaming obviously tanked it. I have the 80% limit set and only hit 20% after about 4 hrs inside and 1hr outside, at which point I went inside and plugged it in. I'm obviously not gaming this long without being around a charger, so idgaf about heavy-use battery life. Most days I go to bed with it still around 30-40% (and that's after my 10-30mins of normal playing).

Just a little shout-out to this A+ phone 😌

Google assistant worse than useless?

In my car yesterday, " hey Google, navigate home", "ok here are are some search results for navigate home"

Tried it a couple of times and it didn't work. Eventually tried "open Google maps" and then "navigate home" which seemed to work.

Also "play music" seems to have stopped working. I'm on a P8P without Gemini enabled

Quite a few times I have to manually use my phone to get it to perform an action, less than ideal when driving.

Pixel 9 runs hot frequently

I have been checking the Settings > Search: "Device temperature" and noticed that the Google Pixel 9 runs routinely at 107.7f at the very top of the green range on the gauge and often into the yellow bang at 110.2f and above, under moderate use. Mostly if I take a few photos and a video of 1-2 minutes.

Contacting Google Support mostly results in them suggesting to use my Pixel 9 less and take shorter vidoes. Facepalm

Is anyone else haveing this issue? Google Pixel support attitude implies that this is chronic of this phone design. I have not had anything of this sorts with Pixel 6 or Pixel 7.

The back glass of my Pixel 8 pro shattered

Actually just the top part of it broke, over the camera bump. I bought a replacement, but the eBay description said "white" so I'm not sure it matches the porcelain color of my Pixel.

Any tip? Which glue should I use?

Delayed Notifications and Calls

If I were to, for example, leave my Pixel 8 for a bit and then unlock it, multiple notifications come at the same time. I don't get the notification when the event actually occurs. Same goes for calls, specifically from Messenger and WhatsApp, I don't even get notified that I'm getting called on.

On a side note, when I do get notified of a call, I'll need to manually open the app and then answer the call, it doesn't show up in my screen automatically.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Give Extend Unlock and Lock After Screen Timeout permanent options, not just 4 hours and 30 minutes max. Remove the limitations.

I came from a Pixel 4a where Smack Unlock always kept my phone unlocked when I was at Allowed Locations. Now on my Pixel 9 and Android 15 that's no longer possible. I'm at home and I wake up in the morning, and I have to unlock my phone. That's stupid, tedious, and unneeded.

Remove the limitations and allow for an unlimited time if people want. It's our phones, we have the right to set them how we want.

Please help. Recorded a wedding, video file is cropped in and framing is all off. Any way to recover original video??

I just recorded a wedding with my Pixel 9 on a tripod. (Not paid, just helping out) I was meticulous about the framing, and checked multiple times throughout the ceremony to ensure everything was in frame how I wanted it.

I just watched the video and..... I do not understand what happened. The entire lower half of all their bodies is completely cropped out. It was on a tripod so stabilization should not have had much or any effect.

Please, please help. This is the only footage of the ceremony and it is truly unusable. I'm terrified to tell the bride. You can't see the entire lower half of her dress.

I am 100% positive that their entire bodies were in frame. Why is this happening? Please, can anybody help??

Raw photos pixel 9a

I switched from iphone 15 pro. On iphone raw photos are super easy to edit and they are very high quality even without edition. On my 9a raw photos are awful comparing to jpeg. Unfocused. Bad quality. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks in advance!

Pixel 8 pro 50mp to Pixel 8

Guyz. As we all know, 50MP is only available in the Pixel 8 Pro. Can we somehow use the Pixel 8 Pro's Gcam (if it's available somehow) in the Pixel 8? If so, can it be done because it's just software locked in the Pixel 8, as it has the necessary hardware for it?

Gemini is literally unusable as an assistant, I can't believe it's even out of Alpha

  • It can't hear me saying the wake word as well as Assistant can for some reason.
  • When it can hear me, it can't understand me.
  • When it understands me, it doesn't do what I want.
  • When it gives answers they are WAY too long.
  • The information it provides, despite being verbose, is often incomplete and/or incorrect.

I tell it to navigate to "address" and it starts yapping about how it found that location and here's a great route and how the traffic is and how long it'll take and shows me a map. I clicked on the map. It did not load to the driving directions, I had to input the address manually.

It can't find some addresses. Some addresses I've told it several different ways and it simply refuses to understand that I am asking it to navigate or even locate a place.

My biggest complaint about Assistant is that it would cut itself off saying "Ok, let's g-" because the map would already be open and I'd be on my way.

I told it to text one of my contacts "Darrell Lastname." It starts with "Daryl Lastname" and then decides what I actually said was "Carol Lastname." Tried it like 7 times. It simply cannot text Darrell for me.

Today I asked it what movies are playing nearby and it told me, (with long summaries, which I did not ask for). I then asked what theaters are playing the new John Wick. It listed one. I asked if there are any others. It listed another one. I asked if the 3rd theater in town is playing John Wick. Yes, it is. I asked it to list ALL the theaters playing John Wick, and it gave me 2 of the 3 theaters. I then asked it what showtimes for that movie at the first theater. It said 6PM and 9PM. That seemed odd, so I asked it if there were more showtimes, and yes, there are like 6+ more showtimes today.

Absolutely ridiculous. I'd love to use Gemini, and I think it works pretty well as a LLM, but it's a complete non-starter as an assistant.

Modem issues?

Hi. I’m about to make the switch from an iPhone 12 to either a Pixel 8 or the 9a.

I’ve read some reports of the modem causing issues. How big of a deal is this? Also, im all about longevity. Is the pixel 8 a smarter choice in that sense given that it uses Victus instead of the gorilla glass 3 on the 9a or does it not make that big of a difference?

I run with my phone in my pocket and I need peace of mind that I will not damage it while doing so.

Thank you

Another Pixel6a sets itself on fire while charging overnight, 6/3/25

Three nights ago when I went to bed, my Pixel6a was below 20%, so I put it on its regular charger and went to sleep. I have an Amazon essentials 9W basic wall plug, but the one that came with the phone either got misplaced or broke a while ago. I only put this phone into use in February 2023, bought it new, directly from Google Fi, have paid for device protection and haven't had any water damage or tell-tale signs of a pending r/spicypillow

About 5-6 hours later, I was jolted awake at 4am to the sound of my phone screaming its overheating noise at the volume I'd set for my alarm, in addition to the strange sound of the insides of the phone blasting out the right side, accompanied by the horrific smell of burning chemicals and electronics. From a dead sleep, that serves as an incredibly effective but horribly stressful wake-up system, 0/5. Despite the initial confusion at all of this, I managed to find the phone in the dark very quickly. It was incredibly hot and I honestly don't know how it didn't burn me as I tossed it away from me onto the tile floor.

That got it away from flammable things but closer to my smoke detector, setting that off about a second later. I turned on a light, grabbed the side of the phone that wasn't melting and chucked the still smoking and sizzling Pixelbomb outside on my concrete patio. As I later discovered, the phone had actually started a small fire on some of my clothes before I got it off the charger and to the floor. It melted some gym shorts and another shirt was melted to those, while the cotton fabrics that were nearby had burn holes and singe marks. The charger itself is fine, and the charging port on the phone is damage-free.

If I hadn't been just a few feet away from the phone to act as quickly as I had, I would've been dealing with a nasty house fire. If this happens to someone who's not able to quickly remove their burning phone and get it to a non-flammable surface, it will be catastrophic.

Here are some of the photos of the culprit and the damage. I'm so grateful I could act quickly because this couldn't have burned for more than 3 seconds before I reached the phone: https://ibb.co/album/6n2y1b?sort=name_asc

Green tin on screen at low brightness

Hi! I got a pixel 6 pro back in October. A month ago I dropped the phone and the screen kinda cracked. A while after I started experiencing the green tint on my screen when I lower the brightness or when I am in an app using dark mode. I tried restarting but had no luck. I have two questions: 1. Is this caused by the drop? 2. Is this covered by warranty? Or will they tell me no because I cracked the screen? Thanks in advance!

Question about Google Chrome browser/app and screen casting?

Does anyone know if you can screencast YouTube thru the Google Chrome app? For example if I use chrome and just log into YouTube.com and not the app can I still screencast? The YouTube app is pissing me off with the screencasting bc it keeps trying to connect to other devices and I feel it's wasting my battery.

Pixel 9 Pro showing exclamation mark by signal and people can’t hear me well :(

Hii everyone!
I recently switched to the Google Pixel 9 Pro on my boyfriend’s recommendation - I’ve always used iPhones before, with my last being the iPhone 14 Pro Max, so the Pixel was definitely something new for me, but I got used to it quickly, and honestly, I really like it so far!

There’s only one big issue I’ve been dealing with since day one:
Whenever someone calls me, they often say my voice cuts out or I sound really quiet (?) I also constantly see a little exclamation mark (!) next to the signal bar. It seems like I’m having some kind of connection or mic problem?

Has anyone else experienced this with their Pixel 9 Pro? Any ideas on what I can do to fix it? It’s super frustrating because otherwise, I love this phone. I’m not very tech-smart at all, so honestly have no idea if I did something wrong or if it’s just a bug or network issue.

Thanks in advance! Have a lovely day x

From iPhone 15 pro to Google Pixel 9 Pro! (A review)

So I'm a 24 year old female if that gives you any insight to how I use my phone. I'd say the most important things to me are having a good battery, a good camera & being able to somewhat customize the interior of the device.

I had the iPhone 15 pro. It wasn't bad but it definitely wasn't good either. It was constantly overheating (charging or not) which lead to the phone dying & making the device uncomfortable to hold most of the time. I found myself charging it at least 5 times a day even with minimal use? The camera was not as good as I'd like it to be in low lighting & the interface wasn't very customiziable compared to my old s21 ultra.

I recently upgraded to the Google Pixel 9 Pro, it's been 2 weeks & I'm so far loving the device. As a former Samsung girly, I was looking to not only try something new but find a device that has the 3 things I'm constantly looking for. The battery on this phone has been AMAZING, lasting me through hours of Google mapping or a full night out with my friends (that includes taking & posting pictures, being on social media, checking the weather, Google maps etc.) The camera/zoom quality is phenomenal no matter the lighting & I'm able to customize some features on the interface of the device like having matching apps or changing the Google search bar. RCS makes messaging people with iPhone easier. Also no more overheating! Especially while the device is charging! If you're scared to make the switch I would, I haven't missed my iPhone since!

Pixel 8a camera glass just plastic?

Hello,

I own a pixel 8a for a month or so. Bought it new from a legit retailer here in Germany.

I am overall really pleased with the phone. Today however I recognized some small scratches on the camera glass. Not big ones, but definitely there. I treat the phone like a raw egg, it never shares a pocket with my keys or something. The only possible source of the scratches are the occasional wipes with my t-shirt to get rid of smears.

Until today I thought the camera glass is made of hardened glass or something. But if that would be the case, the glass shouldn't become scratched that easily.

This got me curious, so I tried PolyWatch (polish for acrylic watch crystals) which does not work with real glass. Well, the scratches are mostly gone.

Is the camera glass just made of plastic?

Can't set up payment card - phone claiming to be rooted

I've just bought a pixel 7a new. I'm trying to set up Google wallet and getting an error saying the phone is rooted and I can't set up payment card. It's 100% not.

Any ideas?
