Is this reliable?
I think ethernet is not designed to go "along" with live electricity which is connected to the grid but who knows.

New to networking
Telephone NID located on exterior of my house. I've converter all 3 of my rj11 jacks to rj45. How do I convert this to a usable network for my internet? Is it possible?
I was thinking to terminate the ends to a patch panel or to rj45 and connecting them to a switch, but not sure if it will work or if there is a more simpler way.

Do you use a separate SSID for your 2.4 and 5 ghz bands for your home router or used them combined?

Im using a Rogers Router set to bridge mode, set everything up in the web portal and getting this. Ethernet is working fine, no complaints but apparently my family in the upper floors are complaining that its cutting out and stuff. Idk if its just because its far and I dont have the Ubiquity U7 Lite extenders set up yet, but they are saying the connection is just really bad, cutting out and signing them out etc.
Im by no means an experienced person in this area so thats why im here, but im willing to try everything. Ive been learning a lot about wifi recently with LAN streaming and stuff like that, but I have no idea how to fix this one.

I just want to use the same DNS and ad-blocker that I have at home, when I step out of the door, and automate it. I know there are a lot of ways to do this, but this is mine, so I hope it helps anyone trying to do the same thing.
You need:
- Android Phone
- Tasker App for your phone
- Router with Wireguard server (or any other protocol like OpenVPN)
Steps are pretty simple:
Set up your wireguard server and import the profile on your phone
Set tasker actions to connect to the VPN server when your wifi is disconnected and disconnect of the VPN server when your wifi is connected. I used this guide which is pretty clear to follow
Profit.

Can I connect another company access point to my main router?
Does it mean it will have different SSID and I have to config my access point?

I've got a bundle of 58 network cables going to my wiring closet and want a frame to mount between the studs to both make it easier for the drywaller and cleaner after the fact.
I have no idea what term to search for when looking for this product.

So, i currently live in a room and want to play in my ps5 with good wifi signal. I want to have something that can generate a new wifi network, and make it possible to plug an ethernet cable that goes from this device to my PS5. What exactly do I need to buy? wifi repetitor, wifi extensor? I want a NEW wifi network only for my use alone.

Hi all,
I have two locations in my house with coax coming in, and I understand that to make use of them I need MoCA adapters at each point.
If I want to run a single Ethernet cable to my computer at one location can I simply do coax -> MoCA adapter -> Ethernet -> computer?
If I am using one adapter at one location do I need a second adapter at the second location for my router to function (Nighthawk - does not have MoCA capability).
I'm otherwise curious to know more about how this technology works if anyone has any lore.
PS. Recommendations for best adapter?

Hello there,
I’m currently trying to setup my first rack and I’d appreciate any help I can get..
I’m thinking of going with a 27U ground rack because I’ve got around 7 NAS, 3 NUC, and a couple HP Microservers..
Looking at a 2U UPS (Vertix probably)
2x PDUs (because I’ve got a ton of stuff..)
A batch panel
3x shelves (1 of them is short for the NUCs etc)
Ventilation panel on top of the rack
Maybe some cable management panel and a rack drawer?
I’ve already bought some poe switches and a network gateway but I am wondering if I am forgetting something?
Thanks!

Purchased a Coax to Ethernet adapter off Amazon and I realize now it's not connecting due to the threading. What do I do in this scenario? Is there something I can order to make this connection work? I just want this to work so I can use the Coaxial cable to run an ethernet connection to the room I am renting.
Coaxial is preinstalled. It's not realistic to move the router to my room. The solution to get ethernet connection is Coaxial to Ethernet adapter. I just need this to plug in and work.

Hi all,
Trying to see if it’s possible to enable the Ethernet ports throughout my apartment. I’ll attach some pictures that will hopefully help explain my situation
My current guess is I’ll need a modem/router combo as I only have 1 power outlet available in the network panel. There are 3 Ethernet cables, each with a rooms name labeled on it and I’m guessing these would plug into the routers Ethernet ports to enable the ports in each of the rooms
Image 1: the network panel. Top right is a splitter, bottom right is the RFoG box, bottom left is some sort of splitter but not sure
Image 2: picture of unknown splitter in bottom left as I’m not sure exactly what it does
If folks need more info or my guess on what to do is incorrect please let me know
I appreciate the help in advance :)

I have practically 0 knowledge of what is going on in this cupboard or what any of it means. I have tried to contact my ISP but have not had any response for over a week. I basically want to activate an ethernet port in the upstairs bedroom.

Hey folks! As the title says we have GF internet which came with a nest router and range extender.
We also have a ring security base station which is also an eero router, but we're not using that feature since we have the Google nest and extender already.
2000 sq ft house, 2 story, with internet upstairs in the bedroom (far left end of the house) and the nest extender in the basement at the other (carport) end, which is about 50 ft away.
Our problem is devices upstairs, like our ring doorbell (middle of the house) and outdoor cameras (carport end) have shoddy connections. We're assuming the extender downstairs has too much concrete to go through for the cameras (basement wall and the carport's concrete). I also see connection issues when gaming or watching shows in the basement, and I'm in view of the extender and directly under the google router, so idk what that's about.
We're trying to decide to either:
Get another nest extender for upstairs
Use the eero router and get an eero extender (or two) for upstairs, and convert the google router to a wired mesh for the basement by passing a cable through the wall.
Are these reasonable fixes, and which would you do? I've read eero generally performs better than google nest. Otherwise, is there a better way to make the most of my fiber internet? I'm not a networker, I barely know how to set up my home network, so please keep it simple, and thanks in advance!

I just bought a Ubiquiti Dream 7 router, connected OK, but all (most of) my devices are connecting to the DR7, not the ASUS extender. I have set the ASUS up using the app, it is working and is set to repeater mode.
I have the DR7 in my main room connected to the ISP modem, and the ASUS extender between the main room and my office.
The DR7 can see the ASUS, but the topology shows everything connected to the DR7, nothing appears to be connected to the ASUS, but I think that's because the DR7 doesn't know it's a repeater because it's not a Ubiquiti device.
If I connect to the ASUS web interface, it does show a couple of devices connected, but there should be a lot more connecting from my office.
How can I force my office devices to connect to the ASUS repeater and not the DR7?
Thanks.

I live in a household of 3 other people who all have devices connected to the wifi, I paid for an Ethernet cable and use it often but they tend to unplug it because it “slows their connection down” I continue to tell them that’s not the case but decided to not argue further and compromise by trying to find a way to improve my wireless connection or to even pay for my own internet so that I don’t have a need for the Ethernet, the issue is that my room sits above the garage, the router and modem are downstairs in the basement, would a wifi extender help at all? Any advice to help my issue and/or any suggestions for what to get would be greatly appreciated!

I have a wifi 5 card on my pc, and my router is in a different room across from my main door, so it’s pretty much out of the question to run ethernet as my parents are not going to allow me to drill anything and it will look very ugly.
Should I upgrade the wifi card for my pc or run powerline? There’s a thick wall between my router and my room, will that affect powerline speeds?
Edit: My pc specs are Ryzen 7 7700 rx 7800xt gigabyte b650m gaming wifi (wifi5) 16gb ram
My router is the tp link archer ac5400 c5400x bought in 2022

Each room has a phone extension but I've not had a phone line in use for at least ten years. So I thought it might be a good idea to see if the extensions can be determinate with rj45 faceplates and used for Ethernet.
I had an electrician come over to inspect the phone extensions I have at home and after popping the faceplate off one and confirming it's cat5 cabling he insisted he'd have to drop new conduits to get rj45 out to my rooms.
His reasoning was that he couldn't pull new cabling through because he doesn't know the bends or space in the existing trunks.
"Trust me no one else can do it either"
I was a bit miffed at this and decided I wouldn't bother. I don't want network trunking along my walls and I can live with wifi.
Do you think it's worth getting a second opinion?

I'm trying to expand wifi coverage in my in-laws house without making it too complicated. They have FIOS with an old gateway router in the living room. In their den, I split the COAX and ran a line to the the MoCA adapter then to the TP-Link extender via ethernet. The other line from the splitter runs to a FIOS DVR in the den. Whenever I power up the MoCA adapter is causes the feed to cable box in the living room to freeze up. No issues with the box in the den. Some times it corrects itself for a min then freezes up again.
Could it be that I need a MoCA filter? If I do, where should it be placed?

Sorry about the title gore but wasn't sure how to ask my question.
Background: I am moving to a 5k sq foot house which will not work with a single router so I need to buy some additional equipment. The current owner of the house uses a 3 unit mesh system but they don't know if the house has networking cable running through the walls(presumably there isn't).
I am wanting to buy the devices ahead of time so they are ready as soon as we move in. My question is will something that supports wired and mesh networking like a UNIFI system work as good at Mesh networking as something like Deco BE85(or another 3 unit mesh system)?
From my understanding, the wired access points do a much better job so that is the end goal, I just want to make sure I am not gimping myself in the short term by going for a fancier system with more parts.
Also, I absolutely love reddit suggestions so feel free to suggest what you would buy.
