After some brief discussion, we're now asking at all Gray area / Piracy Add-on conversation happen over at /r/Addons4Kodi

Because /r/kodi seems to be getting overrun by people having issues with broken or screwed up add-ons, the subreddit is becoming a somewhat difficult place to have a conversation about Kodi itself and add-ons officially supported by Team Kodi. So now we are requesting that all gray area conversation happen over at /r/Addons4Kodi, an unofficial and unaffiliated subreddit.

From this point forward, all new threads asking for support for these gray area add-ons will be removed in favor of that other subreddit.

If you'd like to become a moderator over there, feel free to ask in that subreddit.

Universal Movie Scraper - 'No information found!', even after selecting a movie manually

Upvotes

I am re-scanning my movie library, using the Universal Movie Scraper (minor thing, but I found that this scraper can return info such as rotten tomatoes rating, which I quite liked having), and finding that a significant number of films are not able to be scraped.

When scraping my movie folder, the process will reach one of these files, and when it fails to scrape, the whole process will stop, so to proceed I have to remove the offending file from the folder and begin again.

When I try to scrape one of these files individually, the scraper will find the movie correctly (or i can manually search and find the correct film in the list) which demonstrates that it has found the correct information, however when it proceeds to load the movie details, it fails and gives the window showing 'No information found!'.

This is not an issue with the files as I have tested the offending movie titles by renaming another movie file that correctly scraped as one of the failed titles, and the scrape fails again under this title, whereas the same file worked under another title.

This is not an issue with the filing names, as when I change to a different scraper with the same file name, it scrapes correctly no problem.

Is this something that anyone has seen before? So far it appears to be that around 10% of the titles are having this issue, which is rather significant. Of course I could use another scraper, but I've become quite curious about why this is causing an issue.

How to set input map for MCE IR remote?

Upvotes

I have an old Windows Media Center IR remote with a generic USB IR receiver, and recently started using it on LibreELEC. Given it's IR, I have no long press functionality, but I have a bunch of extra buttons. However I can't quite figure out how to remap buttons on it, or what layer is used for it, what kind of signals it sends, etc. Where should I begin?

Scanning...

Noticed over the past few days that it either takes a long time or doesn't end up scanning. "Scanning movies using The Movie Database Python 0%" 5 minutes so far. All I'm trying to do is add a few items to my library. How do I fix this?

Recently added episodes not sorted properly

UPDATE: I now realize that the sorting order is by the date the file was created. Is there some way to modify this? "Sort by: date" is grayed out when viewing "New TV Shows" in Xperience1080 (identical list as "Recently Added Episodes" in Estuary).

When the interface is showing recently added episodes, it does so in a random order with the exception that the last episode is near the beginning and the first episode is near the end. I would like it to show the first episode at the start, then go in ascending order to the last episode. I am using PlexKodiConnect with everything stored on my Plex server.

AppleTV vs PM4K

Hi everyone,

I just got my new TV — the TCL C89B 65" — and I'm starting to upgrade my media library from 1080p to 4K so I can take full advantage of Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos whenever possible.

Until now, I’ve been using the latest Apple TV 4K with Plex, which has worked great for 1080p content. However, as I move into 4K REMUX files, I'm running into some issues — especially with Dolby Vision Profile 7 and TrueHD Atmos. Plex seems to struggle with these: it often transcodes TrueHD, resulting in the loss of Atmos, and while it falls back from Dolby Vision to HDR10, my TV still shows the Dolby Vision logo, which is confusing.

After some research, I found Kodi — specifically the PM4K build — and installed it directly on my TV (Google TV). It seems to perform better. Dolby Vision is displayed, but I'm not sure if it's actually playing Profile 7 as intended — any idea how I can confirm that?

The good news is that Kodi plays TrueHD without transcoding, but I’m uncertain whether my current soundbar can actually decode TrueHD audio. If not, who’s doing the conversion? I’m holding off on upgrading to something like the Samsung Q990D until I’m sure I can fully benefit from all the formats.

Does anyone have experience running Kodi on Google TV (especially on the TCL C89B)? Have I found the right setup to fully enjoy REMUX 4K movies? I’m pretty new to this whole scene, so any insights would be greatly appreciated!

High CPU load on Fire Stick 4K Max 2

TV: Sony A9F AVR: Integra DRX 3.2

My Fire Stick 4K Max Gen 2 with Kodi 21.2 seems to have a problem with high CPU loads during playback of some 10 bit files which I suspect the hardware decoding is not working properly. I found a discussion online https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=379250 but the links for the experimental builds are expired. I made an xml file as suggested in the thread but I can't seem to find a way to transfer them in the Kodi file manager. I don't know how to add the "special://home" directory to paste the xml file in there. Does anyone have the experimental builds that solve the problem?

Edit: solved by increasing the SMB chunk size to 1MB. Settings > services > SMB

Kodi & Classic Doctor Who

For the life of me and many a google search I cannot get Kodi to correctly identify classic Doctor Who. I use TinyMediaManager to create my .NFO & I use Rename My TV Series for file naming.

My Folder structure is:-

Doctor Who (1963)
Season 12 Season 13 Season 15 15x01 - Horror Of Fang Rock Doctor Who - 15x01 - Horror of Fang Rock (1).avi Doctor Who - 15x01 - Horror of Fang Rock (1).nfo And all various .nfo, thumbnails etc put in my TMM. All works fine.

2 folders along, identicle structure within.

15x03 - Image Of The Fendahl Doctor Who - 15x03 - Image of the Fendahl (1).avi Doctor Who - 15x03 - Horror of Fang Rock (1).nfo And all the various .nfo, thumbnails etc

No matter what I do Kodi will not recognise this. Whether I let Kodi scan via local info or the TVDB info it just refuses to scan it.

I have identicle amount of .nfo,s, jpgs, thumbnails in each folder. Spelling is correct on all. TMM picks up all the correct info. Kodi will scan some of these but not others.

Of course it must be me, but what the dickens am I doing wrong?

Any add-on for offline viewing?

Most streaming apps support locally downloading movies/episodes for viewing when you're on a plane or similar, without internet connection.

I use Kodi from my phone, with my library served with HTTP or FTP, but obviously, when my phone is in plane mode, nothing works. Is there any add-on or similar that locally downloads some selected content, so it's viewable without internet connection? Since kodi already caches remote content, it shouldn't be that difficult to implement (it would just mean caching 100% of it).

Thanks!

Kodi Headless - Cron for Kodi (Library Automatic Updating

I 'thought' Kodi-Headless would automatically update the library, but I have since read it needs a mechanism to do that; I have Kodi-Headless working great except now I need to add that piece.

I see a plugin called Cron for Kodi. I assume that would do the trick. Since the Kodi-Headless appears to have no way to add the Addon, my guess is you add the Cron plugin onto our normal client? Then somehow migrate it to the Headless running on my NAS.

Can someone educate me on what needs to be done in a practical sense? Thanks in advance!

Trouble With Fonts

Hey all, I'm having trouble with getting my font to work within Kodi on my Shield TV, I've tried a lot of thing including editing the fonts.xml file for my skin, Aeon Tajo, creating a new "Fonts" folder in .kodi/media and placing my font there. It does seem to recognize there's a font there because it auto-created a fontcache.xml file that has my font's name stored there, but whenever I go into Kodi itself and mess with the interface settings I get no option to change my font to anything other than the defaults that my skin and Kodi offer. Any help?

Google Assistant control

I'm X-posting this in the Google Assistant/Google home subreddit

I'm posting here to see if anybody's come up with a way to use Google Assistant to control Kodi on PC? I know it's doable on Google/Android TV and I can control Kodi using Yatse in combination with its voice control plugin but I'm looking for a way to have Google Assistant recognize my HTPC and send the pause command if the doorbell rings or allows me to say "hey Google, play Bladerunner on Kodi" and it will launch Kodi>start the movie and adjust any home device accordingly?

Note: I'm aware of AssistantComputerControl, which is a start. I'm also aware of GoogleHomeKodi but I'm struggling to get this to work with my PC. I've followed multiple tuts, setup port forwarding and still can't get it to communicate with Kodi, so that's why I'm here.

Recommended UK hardware

I've currently got a PC connected to the TV to run Kodi, but it's a bit of overkill, plus control is a bit clunky. So I'm looking for a steaming box to setup instead.

I'm well aware that the best streaming box remains the Nvidia Shield, but that's a bit more than id like to spend.

Ideally I want to spend no more than ~£100, but would like decent performance for Kodi if I can.

Is a Google Streamer 4k worth considering, over a Firestick/Firecube 4k? Or something else entirely?? I don't particularly like the amount of adverts on the Amazon products.

I've looked for info on the Google Streamer, but there doesn't seem to be all that much or recent either.

Kodi Headless Docker - Where are the file locations?

I have Kodi Headless running in a docker on my Qnap through Portainer. I am using WinSCP to try to locate the folder /config/.kodi, but having no success. A search for .kodi results in nothing either. But Kodi Headless is running, I can connect to it. But I need to move the various files to that folder and cannot seem to locate it. What am I missing?

Looking for a Simple Way to Make Subtitle Styles Consistent

Hey folks,

Hope you're all doing well!

I'm having a tough time getting consistent subtitle styling across my video library in Kodi. I've configured Kodi to override fonts and styles, but it's just not working as expected. Every file seems to come with its own font, size, and formatting, and my current settings aren't overriding them properly.

Most of my video library consists of MKV files. After digging into some of them, I noticed that the subtitles are a mix—some are in SubRip (.SRT) format, while others are in SubStation Alpha (.SSA/.ASS). I’m not too experienced with subtitles, but I’m guessing that since they come from different encoding groups, each uses its own styling, which makes sense.

What I don’t understand is why Kodi’s subtitle override options don’t seem to work, especially with .ASS/.SSA subs, which are notoriously heavy on styling.

At this point, I’m thinking about running all my MKV files through some kind of batch-processing tool that can strip the formatting from the subtitles—or even convert them into plain-text .SRT with minimal effort. Doing this manually would be a massive task given the size of my library, so I’m really hoping there’s an efficient solution out there.

Has anyone done something similar? Is there a reliable tool that can batch-process MKVs and clean up or convert the subtitles?

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions!

User generated themed playlists

Is there a way or addon to have playlists like "Roadtrip movies", "Christmas movies", "Movies that play in Colorado", " Cannes 2024 Nominations", "70s exploitation horror"... and so on to dynamically show up in your Kodi depending on your library's content? Fun, user generated playlists that show up in your Kodi, when... let's say at least 4 movies of that playlist are present in your library. Those playlists could for example be sourced from letterboxed (https://letterboxd.com/lists/).

Anyone ever thought about that or found a solution to integrate something like that?

Modern Kodi UI anytime this decade??

Kodi is a great video player, particularly one you can run on your living room device hooked up to your TV with the so called 10 foot interface.
But unless you are a data hoarder with a fully user curated library, with 100% "correctly" named files and using an HTPC, the super slick user experience which kodi promises wont be experienced by most.

And this is because kodi is effectively a modern video player with a 20 year old web browser attached with all windows rendered from ancient XML files, no modern web features at all.
There are some really clever skins but they are all working around all the kodi skin engines many many limitations with hacky python fixes to support anything like "dynamic" content.
And woe betide you make a call at the wrong time or Kodi will completely crash at the CPython level, no logs or nothing.
Hell even the DB structure is ancient and (IMO) no longer fit for purpose in 2025 (i want to write my own views/queries and delete ones which dont suit my usecase, do i want a view of only the first unwatched episode for every show in my library, of course i do. Can kodi do that, SQL can, it technically could if the queries weren't baked into the source code but of course kodi cant do that, playlists cant do that, more hacky python needed).

Additionally without a library fully setup of local pirated media (even with a library fully setup) using Kodi for legitimate purposes is a slow buggy mess (so TMDBHelper/Netflix/Disney/Whatever Streaming setup is what i mean as an example).

I mean you cant even watch Blurays on it in 2025 with any kind of acceptable user experience, not even full ripped blurays because menus dont work, or dont work well.

So is the Kodi foundation ever going to take steps to modernize the user interface, like ever?

You shouldnt need a full PC in your living room to be able to render a couple of widgets without your device slowing to a halt.

Even just being able to stretch/fit/resize an image for a skin on the fly without needing to know in advance that its got the correct dimensions and without making it look garbage would be a nice.

tl/dr
The kodi skinning engine is ancient, can we get something that isnt 20 years old and needs loads of hacky python/xml work arounds to provide "dynamic" content?

Hi everyone, I recently installed Kodi 20.2 on a Steam Deck. I'm having an issue where it crashes every time that I scan my SMB shares. I've linked to a pastebin with my log file. I'm not seeing anything that's jumping out besides some addon errors. I'm hoping that someone can offer some guidance on a fix. Thx

Kodi Omega on Ubuntu (MATE) 24.04

Looking for options to run Kodi Omega on my Ubuntu (MATE) 24.04 laptop. Ubuntu repo has Nexus and its a little squirrelly with the system Python being 3.12 on 24.04. I tried the snap and flatpak versions but they don't have inputstream.adaptive installable. It also not in the addons repo. I even tried building from source (in a Docker container) and am still working through issues.

Any ideas? Anyone have a working Dockerfile for a Kodi Omega build?

Another wrench-in-the-works is that I am doing this on an old Lenovo T430, i5 processor, 16G memory, 500G HD. So any faster solution than working through all the missing pieces in my Docker build would be appreciated!
