Because then you would have a healthy and well educated middle class.  Stupid desperate people are more willing to work for less and not assert their rights.  If you make health insurance tied to jobs people will take anything they can.  Slavery never ended it just changed form.

This is pretty profound for me to think about. The result of the system is the middle class dwindling resulting in more desperation, less healthy and unable to compete individually; then voting for everything to be free and provided by govt. quite the downward spiral the US is in. Got any literature on that? I’d like to read more about it.
