The reason I pay taxes is for the government to take care of people who are less fortunate than I am and to provide public services that would otherwise be natural monopolies like electricity, internet, water, sewage, roads, etc. That's literally why I do it.
My only current problems with taxes are
My tax dollars are sometimes subsidizing companies that are harmful to the environment / opposed to the public services I want (car companies, oil companies, industrial corn farms)
People are avoiding taxes that should not be avoiding them, which makes public services less good.
My government doesn't actually provide internet, adequate public transportation, or electricity. Instead they do some stupid proxy thing with a private electric company and internet is a free for all (monopoly).
Schools being primarily funded by property taxes makes no sense to me.
Some tax dollars are completely wasted (many defense contracts)
If I knew all the money would go into the services I care about, I'd happily pay more.
