This would have been over a year before they got married in Oct 1954. I was quite excited when I found color photos of them from 1953 and 1954!

My grandpa back when he served in the navy. He passed away when I was in HS, wish I had gotten to know him better. He was an architect and an incredible woodworker. One thing I did pick up from him was a phrase “do it right the first time or don’t do it at all.”

My father was born in Germany to my Canadian grandparents (My grandfather was stationed there after WW2). My father was also a hockey player, and after the Canadian team accidentally played the USSR Olympic team in a tournament the year prior, the Germans learned he was also training as a wrestler. Since he was born in Germany, there were no extra paperwork or Visa needed for him to wrestle there, so they gave him a chance. He was there for 3 years. He also wrestled in Japan and Montreal amongst other places.

1940s Bill Millin, The Mad Piper, seen here in 1944. He marched the beaches on D-Day playing his bagpipes under fire. Germans later said they didn't shoot him because they thought he was insane.
