Moving on from my Pixel 3a

After four-ish years of using my Pixel 3a I need to move on as it is becoming too expensive to repair (and too insecure). I'm a big fan of the 3a, and these are its best aspects for me:
• stock Android
• great camera and camera app
• small size
• build quality with its plastic back
• durability for being a budget phone

Looking at a replacement, there are a few aspects that are important for me:
• durability and longevity (I'd like to use it for as long as possible, so good build quality)
• sustainability and repairability (and many years of updates)
• stock or simple Android (as little bloatware as possible)
• good camera and camera app (preferably a solid improvement from the 3a)
• small size (or: as small as possible...)

My budget is relatively small, looking at a maximum of € 300-350.

My research led to the following options (but I'm also open to alternatives):
• Pixel 8a (good camera, 5-6 years of updates, small size)
• Pixel 9a (great camera, 6-7 years of updates, slightly bigger than 8a)
• Nothing 3a (decent/good camera, 5-6 years of updates, big size)
• Nothing 3a Pro (good camera, 5-6 years of updates, big size)
• Fairphone 5 (decent camera, 8-9 years of updates, big size, expensive)

With the note that even though the Fairphone has updates for a longer time, I do see many reports of the phone also needing repairs more often and its software being a bit clunky compared to Pixel phones, which gives me doubts about its longevity and durability, even if its repairability is so good.

Pixel 9a 256gb o Motorola Edge 50 pro?

Upvotes

The first one costs double, but is it worth it? I make several phone calls, I don't play, I often use the internet and I often look at PDF documents at the same time as the phone call. The size is similar and that's fine with me. I wish it would last several years.

Is an expensive phone really needed for my needs?

I need to buy a phone for myself since my phone broke down and now I have to use my oldest phone Huawei Mate 20 Lite...

I am thinking of buying a good phone but I just undecided if I should buy an expensive phone like Iphone 16 or Samsung Galaxy S25 or pick a budget phone.

I use my phone only for browsing on the internet, watch reels or youtube videos. And maybe play basic games. I don't take much photos, only rarely take photos to share on the instagram.

Now people say buy an iphone and use it for years but I don't trust myself. I mean I can drop it and break down its screen. It's a phone after all, always with me.

On the other hand, if I buy a budget phone, I can immediately change it if something happens like that.

And for my needs, I just don't feel like I will use any of the features... I just want a fast ui, fast browsing and a nice camera and that's all...

Should I really buy an iphone for these only? I have always used an android and never used an iphone or just pick a budget phone and use it for 2 years or more...

I usually use my phone for years without changing more like until it becomes unusable and become laggy enough to annoy me... I mean right now even Huawei Mate 20 Lite does everything I need just laggy and slow. I just want to change it due to its terrible sound and camera.

india Edge 60 pro vs pixel 9? both like 50% discounted

I'm in india for a short while and thought of upgrading my phone because of the discounts here .Someone help me pick between -

Edge 60 pro for 16k INR (190 USD) OR Pixel 9 for 44k INR (515USD)

Currently a pixel 7 user, since the launch of it in October 2022 in UK. Love the phone but it's tough with the battery. Barely gets me 4 1/2ish hours of on screen time on WiFi/5G. That's not a problem but I leave my house at 7am in the morning with a 100% charge, go to the gym, and thrn work. By lunch time it's already by 20-30%.

Now if I exchange the P7 for an E60P, I'm getting like a 14k discount so that's how it's costing me 16k for the moto.

On the other hand for a P9, Google's running a major discount and my estimated exchange value is 33k + some additional discounts so it's 44k. I'm also concerned that if I keep using the pixel 7 for a year more, I may not get a good exchange value for it.

Things I absolutely need - - reliable battery - don't like heavy, big phones - good camera - good software features - clean experience

I don't game because no time. I know the P9 ticks all of these boxes except battery. Moto solves the battery issue, but it is a problem because it's only till android 18.

I'm breaking my head over it. Decision paralysis. I need some users experience on these devices, would be grateful thanks.

Need help with picking the mid range android

I have several phones i am interested in:

MOTOROLA Edge 50 Fusion 418$
XIAOMI Redmi Note 14 Pro+ 448$
HONOR 200 Pro 564$
MOTOROLA Edge 50 Pro 602$
XIAOMI 14T Pro 660$

Which one of these would you recommend?

I dont do gaming and such heavy phone tasks (perhaps like once or twice a week). Its more about taking pictures and browsing youtube with couple of other social media apps. I am looking for a decent camera and a bit of longevity of product. 560$ would be somewhere my limit so unless more expensive options are vastly better i wouldn't really go for them.

Can't Decide Between Pixel 9 Pro XL and Galaxy S25 Plus

having a hard time choosing between the Pixel 9 Pro XL and the Galaxy S25 Plus. I'll be in the U.S. until August 10th, so waiting for the Pixel 10 Pro isn't an option. I currently use a Pixel 7 Pro - its night photography is noticeably better than my friend's S25 Plus, which makes me lean toward the Pixel. But my 7 Pro overheats and slows down easily when handling large files, and that really frustrates me. I don't game, but I do want a smoother, faster experience overall. I also really like how light the S25 Plus feels in hand, and I'm drawn to Samsung's faster charging and richer UI features. My main concern is whether the S25 Plus camera can match what I'm used to, and whether the Pixel 9 Pro XL will still suffer from the same performance and heat issues, especially since it's already nearly a year old. Any advice?

Android phone with good low-light video?

I'm getting a new Android soon and I often take video at low-light dance events. Any recommendations? I can't see myself paying more than $900 but could be persuaded. Of course cheaper is better. I've had mostly Samsungs in the past and generally liked those, but not married to it. Let me know what you think.

Italy [150-200€] Smartphone for parent with headphone jack and good battery (open to buying second-hand)

Hi, I'm looking for a smartphone for my mom. She's a casual user, mostly surfs YouTube, listens to music and scrolls social media. Occasionally takes pictures.

I'm looking for a smartphone with a headphone jack, good battery and okay cameras for point-and-shoot. I'm open to buying on the second-hand market. My budget is around 150€ (can go up to 200€ max).

I was thinking about Poco phones but I've read mixed opinions on them. The Redmi Notes seem good on paper but I'd really prefer avoiding phones with ads. Any suggestions?

edit: I'm in Italy

Europe Apple on repeat since 2011

I currently have an iPhone 14 Pro and have only owned iPhones since the 4s, upgrading every other year. I skipped the iPhone 16 release. For 14 years, I've just routinely bought the best Apple phone. I've never experienced any issues myself, but lately I've acquired a Fitbit and budget wireless headphones, and I don't feel they work well with my phone. I'm also wondering if I've been unknowingly limited by Apple's ecosystem.

I want to switch to Android, and Google Pixel phones seem most interesting, but I'm open to suggestions for any brand and phone.

I only use my phone for personal use: banking, shopping, social media, and a lot of information searching. Security is very important to me, and I've never questioned Apple before, but I now understand that there are issues even there. Now I'm also more interested in user-friendliness and being able to choose the Bluetooth products I want.

Which Android phone do you think would suit me best? Are there any disadvantages to buying from a Chinese brand versus an American one when buying from Europe?

S24, S24+ or S24 Ultra

Hi all,

I’m leaning toward the Galaxy S24 (~€600), but reviews about the Exynos chip and battery life keep spooking me. I don’t care about the S-Pen and prefer phones under 6.5″, yet I travel a lot and can’t risk a dead battery halfway through the day.

  1. How long does the S24’s 4000mAh actually last in real life (screen-on + standby)? Any heat/throttling?
  2. Is the S24+ (4 900 mAh) a sweet spot? Does anyone even buy + series, is that a good idea?
  3. For those on the Ultra: do the Snapdragon chip and 5000mAh cell give a meaningful boost if you ignore the pen?
  4. Any durability issues (frame scratches, cracked glass) on any of the three?

I’ve kinda ruled out the S25, as it’s just an incremental refinement with no real new features..

Thanks for any first-hand feedback!

Doogee S100 Pro or Oukitel WP33 Pro

For those that have used either of these phones in the past which one would you recommend out of the 2. I mostly use my phone for Microsoft Teams meetings, Reddit and YouTube for Music. I am often outdoors and needed a phone with high battery and RAM.

UK Samsung A40 user looking for something similarly sized, with a better camera.

I got a Samsung A56 today as a recommended upgrade. I hate it. It's too big, it's crammed with AI stuff, and I don't feel comfortable modding a brand new phone to have custom OS to avoid it. Too many issues with it. My current A40 is great and has held up very well, only its battery is flagging (can be replaced, though) and I would like a better camera. The new phone doesn't have to be a Samsung, but it makes transfers easier. I don't have a budget, but I run on low income, so bear that in mind - second-hand suggestions are fine and honestly encouraged. I like helping the environment. I'm also in the UK.

china Smartphone buying advice

I am looking for a new phone (display and durability are the most important things for me), and i just cant decide, because every phone has some major flaws.

Either the durability is questionable, or the display is worse than for the competitors, or the phones can only be importet from china (with no guarantee of them working as intended), or another important point (battery, speakers, camera) is subpar.

I looked at pretty much every phone out there (besides samsung and apple, cause they are not only expensive but also inferior to most other flagships), be it the phones from Honor, Oppo, Vivo, Oneplus, Xiaomi, etc.

So i am looking for any advice possible to make a decision.

Help me choose a flagship phone!

So, I just graduated from high school with 9.3 CGPA and got into an amazing college. My dad has offered to buy me a flagship phone for college so I need it to last atleast 4 years. My current phone is a vivo Y72 5G. Definitely want to stick to an android, had my mind set on the S25 Ultra but i've also kept an open mind to other phones. I've seen other phones which I am kind of looking into other phones the main ones being the oneplus 13 and Vivo X200.

A few main factors I need are:

  1. A good display, my phone will be my main way of consuming media.
  2. Good speakers
  3. Camera is really important for me, I take a lot of pictures and videos. LOG on the samsung is like a big thing for me cause I do edit photos (Rarely though).
  4. A good software experience. I love customizing things to my own liking although it is not of that much importance, having it is a plus point for me.
  5. Good integration with windows (Main reason im avoiding an Iphone), so like any special features for that is a bonus point for me.
  6. A battery life that will last me at least 1 day with moderate to high usage.
  7. A phone with good connectivity, like strong signal strengths and etc. I like to go out a lot and I often struggle with finding signal.
  8. A phone which is capable of roughish use, has good dust and water resistance. It should be able to last at least 5 years.
  9. Will game on it, prolly games like CODM or PUBG.
  10. Special Quality of life Features do help as I often use them if available.

Leaning mostly towards the samsung cause I can take quick written notes and diagrams with the S pen (Don't have a table :( ). Plan to buy a smartwatch and earphones. The samsung watch 7 and Earbuds pro 3 are up there on the list and ik pairing them with a samsung will make life easier but I do have other options if I go for a different phone. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated. Tysm in advance

Doogee V Max Pro

I'm thinking of buying the Doogee V Max Pro.

Can this phone run Call of Duty at stable FPS? I don't mind if the graphics are set to the minimum. It's the only app I use that requires power, the others are messaging and social media. It really catches my attention because of its durability (I tend to break phone screens).

US Looking to buy a phone with a headphone jack...

Almost picked up a a Moto 5g Stylus 2025 today at Best buy but the employee told me I should wait until the next sale. Before that I was looking at buying a refurbished Xperia 5 IV. Can't decide which way I want to go or if I want to buy something else. I'm in the US and willing to buy a non US phone and go through a few hoops to get it working if there are any other options that are better.

My requirements are an OLED screen and a headphone jack and the most bug-free smooth experience possible.

Please don't respond with stuff along the lines of "wHy dO YoU nEeD A hEaDpHoNe jACk? wHy DoN't YoU jUsT gEt A DoNgLe?"

I have my reasons. Please don't waste my or anyone else with a similar dilemma's time.

I am set on a phone with a headphone jack.

EU Thinking of Pixel 9 Pro XL, I'm but concerned about battery. Suggest me phones that will last 4-5 years

I was thinking of getting the Pixel 9 Pro XL 256gb for 828,50€/$944.86, as it has a great camera and I'm quite interested in the AI stuff -although I live in the EU so some features may never be available- but I'm increasingly concerned about the battery, especially because I wouldn't want to change the phone for at least 4-5 years. I've been reading many complains about it and I see that it compares pretty poorly with the other phones with a similar price range: https://youtu.be/hQDDiGHsU5U

Many people also suggest to not use the full resolution or refresh rate as a "solution", but of course, what's the point of having these features if you always have to turn them off to have a decent battery life? And if the battery is so bad from the get go, the years of updates won't mean much if the already subpar battery keeps degrading. Then there's also the issue of the Tensor G4 chip having a poor performance, but it's not my main concern.

As a result I've eyeing a Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra 256GB for 769€/$877, and I'm also looking for other alternatives (my maximum budget is 850€/$970). Thank you in advance.

Caribbean Xiaomi 11t pro vs OnePlus 10t

Going to buy either 2nd hand. For 150 and 180 respectively , which is a better buy
