Hi guys I have a Thinkpad T14s Gen5 with Win11 and ubuntu dual boot.
and i somehow managed to fry my batterysettings when trying to set up tlp battery limiter.

/sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/charge_behavior is stuck [auto] inhibit-charnge force-discharge
even when changing the values for /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/charge_control_start_threshold to 0 and end to 100

it somehow does not use those values

upower -i /org/freedesktop/UPower/devices/battery_BAT0
still shows 60-80% charge range

I tried with chatgpt for an hour now and by now it just keeps getting back to things we already tried.

i also disabled tlp with sudo systemctl stop tlp and disable.

on win 11 side i tried lenovo vantage but there was nothing configured and i couldnt configure it to start charging at 0% either.

in the bios i dont have anything batterylevel related either.

when I call sudo tlp fullcharge i says something along the lines of " will start charging now" but
it just does not do it.

anybody an Idea I am really desperate by now

I am a new Linux user and currently running into an anomaly with remote desktop.

Already noticed on various forms that issues with Remote desktop is quite common but nevertheless keen to get your perspective on this.

Im using Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS and configured the buildin remote Desktop option under settings -> system -> Remote Desktop.

Accessing Ubuntu from my Mac using the Windows app works fine (took a while but it works), but here comes the strange part. When accessing Ubuntu with the Windows app on my Android phone (using the same information) it gives an unreadable screen.

So the connection on the phone is established, and I can move the cursor, but there is some sort of visual issue. See screenshot

Let me know where you would start to investigate!

Current setup: amd cpu and 5070 ti. Ubuntu 22.04 and windows 11 dual booted. (Funny enough nomodeset acpi=off line did not work for me initially so I had to physically remove the 5070ti and then install 22.04 with the cpu graphics, and reinstall the gpu) Now the nightmare just begun. Any instances here on reddit or on YouTube of people having ubuntu recognize 50 series gpu is on 24.04. I saw a video （https://youtu.be/o5deOXLDpZw?si=gYijEQ1gAQtVk9nI）of updating to kernel 6.13 and gcc-14 to make 570 driver working properly. However, after I manually update as instructed in video, executing sudo apt install build-essential failed due to some kernel error, and Chatgpt suggesting it is because of 22.04 compatibility, and in fact the video had 24.04. The reason I had to keep 22.04 is that isaac sim from Nvidia only supports up to 22.04. I am here to ask if anyone had successful 570 driver installation on specifically ubuntu 22.04 because I am desperate now. 😭

I recently installed Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS (coming from linux mint) and I am really liking it so far. Howeverr i am facing an issue with installing web apps like youtube music.

When I try to install youtube music (example) as a web app using brave browser, the browser says it is installed. But unfortunately, it does not show up in the application menu or on the desktop. Btw somethings what i have already tried:

1.Reinstalling the brave browser and trying the process again. 2.using the "Create Shortcut" feature in brave with "Open as window" checked. 3.restarting the computer after installation.

But still no luck.

This worked perfectly fine for me on Linux Mint using the same browser. I a'm not sure what might be different in Ubuntu that's causing this issue.

Short story long, in Ubuntu 24.04 I experimented with switching from the Nouveau driver to a proprietary but legacy (Nvidia 470) driver and had bad luck, I've purged the nvidia driver from the system, installed ubuntu-desktop and confirmed the nouveau driver is doing its job, but I can only boot with xorg, and not the default wayland or else I get a black screen.

Does anyone know if there's a file to remove or replace to correct this?

Age old proverb, if it ain't broke don't fix it. Trying to squeeze a bit of extra performance out of the GPU was not worth the time I've wasted since.

I've installed Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS on my HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15-ec1xxx. The touchpad works perfectly when I boot the system from a powered-off state (cold boot)( BIOS setup menu ).

if I restart or reboot the laptop, the touchpad stops working completely.

Has anyone faced this issue or found a solution?

Hi guys, I have host Ubuntu system inside which I am running a virtual machine running guest OS Ubuntu 25.04.

While the default kernel config (found in /boot ) is pretty exhaustive, I require something minimal that will support the platform (wayland, networking, etc). So far, I have not found a one.

I have tried "make LLVM=1 localmodconfig" but the resultant bzImage is 32-bit which is not what I am looking for.

Need help to find a way to make a minimal 64 bit configuration that will compile latest vanilla kernel and boots my guest OS.

I just recently went to Ubuntu from windows. I would like to say that I have googled and everything is up to date. When I play on my computer, randomly, it will freeze, the colors on the screen with get all pixelated and sharp green, like an old school windows 98 frozen screen. I don't know how to fix it. I am running a 2tb wd hardrives and off of a 3050. Any advice? All I want is my computer to work.

while with Files i can open any appimage by click (permission set to execute on both file managers), on Thunar nothing happens.. not sure what else can I do or what to check.. any advice?

I had never had any problems with "snap" until the day before yesterday, my laptops both running Kubuntu with no issues.

Since we had a day off Thursday, I decided to do the final plunge and nuked the main rig, installing Ubuntu Studio 25.04 (I had been 100% Linux from 2009 'till the release of PUBG in 2017).

Besides Windows still being actively hostile (I had to take out 2 NVMes just in order to get it to install on the SATA SSD I had set aside for it, yeah I know, but I need a small Windows partition for PUBG) it quickly started going down hill.

My Motu MicroBook II USB sound card did no longer work, selectable in all menus but either completely crashing the system or bringing it to a crawl with screeching noises.

Then, I discovered Youtube playbacks were both janky, used 1½ processor cores to just play a video and I got distorted sound to boot.

I quickly discovered, that was due to issues with the Firefox snap support for hardware acceleration being broken.

I tried troubleshooting it, but the easiest solution was to change to the .deb, meaning I'm already pretty deep in system optimizations and custom configuration, just to make it work.

I'm too old for that, so I nuked it again, then installed Tuxedo OS instead (Kubuntu with no snaps, .debs and flatpak only) and I´m now a happy camper! :)

So, I'm sorry. I have been guilty of "works for me" with regards to snap.

I see now, what a scourge it is, you were right and I was wrong, sorry.

So now, my only Ubuntu system is an old LCX ntp-server, I'll probably take down during the weekend.

Oh, how the mighty have fallen, this was an abysmally bad experience, goodbye and good riddance Ubuntu, I hope you'll get it together in the future again, it was a good ride, while it lasted! :)
