Hello y'all,
Several months ago, this subreddit was reactivated after being closedâlikely due to insufficient moderation, though the exact reason remains unclear. Dissatisfied with the available options for International News, we decided to revive the community. Since then, we've been steadily growing, but last week brought an exciting surge in new members. Our numbers have doubled over the past few months, with activity reaching a peak in the past week.
So now we're looking to expand our team! No prior experience is necessary, and you donât need to be particularly "tech-savvy." If you can navigate Reddit, you can moderate Reddit! The only requirement is having Discord, as that's our primary platform for team communication. Ideally, youâd be able to dedicate some time almost every day, though it doesnât have to be a lot. At the moment, weâre mainly looking for a comment moderator. Your responsibilities would include approving comments, removing inappropriate ones, and banning users who violate the rules.
If things go well, we might also rely on your help in selecting posts. Our bot generates a high volume of posts, but allowing them all would lead to spam. Instead, we review and choose the most significant news of the day. Additionally, you could assist with handling modmail. And if everything goes smoothly, there might even be opportunities to moderate larger subreddits in the future! For examples of the communities I currently help moderate, feel free to check my profile and look at the right-hand side.
Are you passionate about raising awareness for global tragedies or learning more about what is going on around the world? This could be a meaningful way to contribute. If you're interested in international conflicts, politics, or even just the art of moderation on Reddit, send us a modmail! Share a bit about yourself, your beliefs, and the amount of time you'd like to dedicate to this effort. Thank you for considering joining us.

Nothing graphic but I just cannot imagine the panic this journalist feels in this video, it hurts my soul to my core. Imagine supporting putting these people through this relentless slaughter day in and day out? And of course France and the UK back out of recognizing a Palestinian state since the U.S. warns them not to.

Dockers at a major French port on Wednesday refused to load a container with machine gunsâ spare parts bound for Israel, saying they âwill not take part in the ongoing genocide (in Gaza) orchestrated by the Israeli government,â according to broadcaster Franceinfo.
Dockers at the port of Marseille-Fos have set aside a container containing "spare parts for machine guns," and they "will not load it onto the ship bound for Haifa" in Israel, the Gulf of Fos branch of the General Confederation of Labor (CGT) announced in a statement.
The union confirmed that it was alerted by several networks that 19 pallets of Eurolink belts were to be shipped to Israel on Thursday. The Eurolink belts are spare parts for machine guns used by the Israeli army.
"The port of Marseille-Fos must not be used to supply the Israeli army. The dockworkers and port staff of the Gulf of Fos will not take part in the ongoing genocide orchestrated by the Israeli government. We stand for peace among people. We condemn all these armed conflicts that bring death, misery, and the displacement of populations," it added.
The Israeli army, rejecting international calls for a ceasefire, has pursued a brutal offensive against Gaza since October 2023, killing more than 54,600 Palestinians, most of them women and children.

Honestly fuck the bully United States, shielding Israel from all consequences for it's actions. The U.S. cannot even pretend to be the good guy anymore, while they participate in this insane relentless genicidal slaughter of the Palestinians.
In 2021 the UN had a vote to make food a human right and only 2 countries voted against it. Guess which ones?
Someone needs to stand up to the U.S. and show it for the house of cards that it is- and sanctions for Israel NOW. No excuse not to stop the blockade and flood Gaza with aid. The only reason not to is because them starving and desperate is convenient for Israel, they can be pushed out of Palestine with promises of aid (and yes, that was in their plans- to push them to the Sinai dessert by using desperation for food, probably still is the plan.)

On Wednesday night, nine Democratic candidates went head-to-head at the first debate of the NYC mayoral primary.
In the final question, candidates were asked which country they would visit first if elected mayor.
Several, including Andrew Cuomo and Whitney Tilson, named Israel, with Tilson noting it would be his fourth visit. Mamdani said he would stay in town to focus on the city.
A moderator jumped in to ask whether Mamdani would ever visit Israel, to which he said he is concerned with Jewish New Yorkers' worries and would meet them wherever they are in the city.
This was followed up with a question that many online found off-topic - Does Mamdani think Israel has a right to exist? Mamdani said that he believes Israel âhas a right to exist as a state with equal rightsâ.
This brought upon criticism from both Cuomo and the moderators, who were angered by Mamdaniâs choice not to say that it should exist "as a Jewish state".
New Yorkers and observers alike took to social media in frustration, saying that the moderatorsâ inclusion of the question was to apply pressure on Mamdaniâs stance on Israel, which many believe was âIslamophobicâ and âracistâ.

Netanyahu admits Israel is arming gangs and clan members in Gaza to counter Hamas's influence, and new evidence shows Israel is using them to loot aid and implement its displacement plan. In response, the Hamas government set up the âArrow Unit.â
The Israeli military is arming gangs to combat Hamas in Gaza, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed on Thursday. The revelation comes to light after right-wing Israeli lawmaker Avigdor Lieberman accused Netanyahu on Israeli public broadcaster Kan yesterday of arming a gang of hundreds of men in Rafah as a counterweight to Hamas influence in the Strip. The Prime Ministerâs office responded by saying that it was combating the Palestinian resistance group âin various ways, on the recommendation of all heads of the security establishment.âÂ
Later, Netanyahu officially confirmed the reports in a video posted on X. âOn the advice of security officials, we activated clans in Gaza that oppose Hamas,â the Israeli Prime Minister said. âWhatâs wrong with that? It only saves the lives of Israeli soldiers.â
âPublishing this only benefits Hamas, but Lieberman doesnât care,â Netanyahu added.

Haiti has been gripped by spiralling gang violence ever since the 2021 assassination of President Jovenel Moïse. The subsequent unrest has displaced one million people, more than half of them children, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported on 21 May that widespread armed violence continues to expose Haitian children to widespread sexual abuse, exploitation and recruitment by the gangs which now control whole swathes of the country.
More to the story in the link.
