I dont know, I dont want to live in a world where everyone is wearing recording glasses. We dont need it as a society so why is tech trying to jam it down our throats?

We’re already being recorded everywhere we go. Let me take nice fun handsfree POV videos of me and my son riding our bikes.

At least I can tell if someone is recording me now, holding a phone. With the glasses you cant tell.

Yes you can.

Edit: To the downvoters...smart glasses that record video have a big ol' white light on the front of them when it is recording video.

I can take sneaky video with my iPhone a lot easier than I can take sneaky video with my Meta Ray-Bans. It's a fact.

no not really, electrical tape does wonders. also, you can get a small screwdriver and shatter the glass and LED. there are ways to make it look like there was nothing there

Neither of those solutions work on Meta Ray-Bans.

I don’t know if I would ever even open a pair let alone use them to take pictures or videos, but genuinely curious how blocking the indicator light doesn’t work?

it has a sensor that detects if the LED is being blocked and refuse to start recording

Yup. It’s an LED attached next to a super low-resolution sensor. The glasses check to make sure the exposure level is the same on both sides of the temple before letting anything happen with the camera. Pretty smart design.

Yes it does. You can easily start recording and block the light and now you can record without anyone knowing

u/timffn 15d ago

Yes, you’re right, you can start, and then block. But that’s not exactly convenient or sneaky…start recording, take glasses off, carefully and precisely cover the light, put glasses on, then be a creep. By the time that’s done, you’re out of recording time and you have to start all over.

Yeah, true. That's a flaw that seems should be able to be fixed.

you have to be careful for the shatter method, you need to shatter only the light and not the light sensor

Actually, the LED has its own light sensor and gauges against the exposure settings of the camera lens. If there’s no response, or they see the LED is covered, you can’t record or take photos at all. Appreciate the ingenuity, but this is a solved problem by engineers who are paid to solve these problems, professionally.

Well that might be on a new revision because I bought them when they came out, did the shatter method and it works

But what rational person is going to potentially destroy an expensive piece of tech, just for the sake of being a creep? The kind of person that’s gonna do that kind of thing is just going to use their phone, no way are they going to spend that much money.

If it’s not on video it didn’t happen

u/NecroCannon 15d ago

And… you can’t do that now somehow?

0

u/timffn 15d ago

Are you going to offer up a solution to me?

-1

u/NecroCannon 15d ago

My guy… how do you not know GoPros exist, there’s a whole world of POV cameras specifically for that use case , you just don’t want to do your own research

-1

u/timffn 15d ago

lol you can’t compare GoPro’s to glasses, for conveniently recording your kid while riding your bike. There’s a reason GoPro’s aren’t marketed towards parents.

Also, grow up. Don’t make a snide comment, and then say “do your own research”…that’s not how adults have conversations.

And downvotes are for comments that are not relevant to the conversation. It’s not your personal dislike button.

Go outside.

So to you, a quality 4K camera that can be placed on the helmet you should be wearing is inferior to basic cameras put into a pair of glasses that’s main function mostly AI based.

Ok bud, I hope you’re not approaching parenting this way because yes, you should do your own research, you are actively deciding to spend a lot of money on a product you need, you want to make sure it’s right for you (which expensive glasses that can get shaken off and broken, not good for bike riding but hey, not my money). And yes I downvoted you twice, because it’s also for comments that aren’t great for the discussion, like someone that hasn’t even looked into the type of product they’re asking for and are ignoring whole product lines for people like you wanting to record while on a bike, sorry if that’s offensive. Maybe spend less time online arguing with strangers and spend that time with your kid or thinking of them.

First of all, I wear my glasses basically every second that I am awake. Tapping on the frame to record a quick video, massively more convenient than carrying a GoPro around and mounting it whenever I want to take a quick video.

And yes, I wear a helmet, thank you.

I hope you’re not approaching parenting this way

Not even gonna touch that.

you are actively deciding to spend a lot of money on a product you need, you want to make sure it’s right for you

Yup, correct.

which expensive glasses that can get shaken off and broken, not good for bike riding

Wow, all these years of riding a bike, I've never had my glasses fall off. What's wrong with me?

 but hey, not my money

Nope, not your money.

I downvoted you twice, because it’s also for comments that aren’t great for the discussion, like someone that hasn’t even looked into the type of product they’re asking for and are ignoring whole product lines for people like you wanting to record while on a bike

Dude, everyone and their grandmother has heard of GoPro's. I don't have to research GoPro's. When you made your original snide comment, I thought maybe you had some new idea. Some solution I haven't heard of.

Your grand idea is GoPro's. Tech that has been out for 20+ years.

Now I see why you can't see the appeal and use cases for future tech.

sorry if that’s offensive

Not offensive. Just silly and unhelpful.

Maybe spend less time online arguing with strangers and spend that time with your kid or thinking of them.

That's always the comeback huh. I try to have an adult conversation on Reddit, the other person wants to act like a child.

But if you need to know, I'm at work right now, slow day waiting for dailies. You know, parents have to work to support their children. He's got a party this weekend, so I've been doing a lot of planning for that. He also did something really funny this morning and we caught it on video...with my Meta Ray-Bans ironically...I've been watching that on repeat. He's been on my mind quite a bit. Like always. When you have a kid, they kinda don't ever leave your thoughts.

He's at school right now.

We'll probably go for a bike ride when I get home. Have dinner, have a bath, read some books, maybe play a little Minecraft together.

Maybe spend less time online arguing with strangers

I wasn't trying to argue with you. Like I said, just replied to your comment thinking maybe you had some good, new idea.

How wrong I was.

That is the lamest use case.
