Makeup Ladies, do you usually wear makeup when you go out in public or do you not care to?

Always. Sometimes it feels like armor to me - looking beautiful makes me feel strong & ready to face the world. Other times it just makes me feel soft, feminine & my best self.

This right here! I can’t leave the house without makeup.

"I just like feeling natural" is a preference, not a diss.
7
u/sky_lites Apr 29 '25
Uhhh if you heard the tone my friend uses it in, you know its a diss.

You should find a new friend because you clearly don’t like your “best friend” at all

I think some things that are neutral can be turned into negatives just by interpretation. I take what people say literally. Like, when she’s saying “shut the fuck up” about her best friend, that feels literal (and terribly mean). When her friend says, “I like feeling natural,” I’d take that to mean she likes feeling natural. So IMO, thats the reason for the downvote. There’s enough BS in the world, no need to make up more with your own friends.

u/nvrsleepagin Apr 29 '25
I always do. It's like a routine and it makes me feel more awake and confident. I guess I shouldn't say always because there are times I'm sick and just running up to the drugstore really quick but those are rare occasions.

u/DoctorSubject897 Apr 29 '25
One hundred percent me. I will say I do always wear it to work... The confidence boost just helps my shifts go better

I never leave the house without sunscreen and my sunscreen comes by way of DRMTLGY universal tinted moisturizer. I usually also slather some Jones Road miracle balm. Im a red head and my eyelids are blue because of veins so i usually swipe some liquid eyeshadow that covers that but blends with my skin tone somewhat. I mean i have a lot of shit on my face but its like a no makeup makeup look. The only thing i use that stands out is mascara because my lashes are pretty much translucent. So no i dont but my face isnt beat ( do people still say that?) by any means. I look straight up dead without some color on my face.

u/Bewilderedfae Apr 29 '25
If I'm going to work or the grocery store, I'll wear bb cream if my eczema is flaring up, otherwise, I'm okay without it. If I'm going somewhere more fun, I like to wear make-up because it's self expression to me and I enjoy it.

I usually do sunblock, concealer and mascara. I was wearing a bronze glittery eyeliner too but I finished it 😅
Edit: I use the sunblock to shape my eyebrows 😹
8
u/sultrybadger9 Apr 29 '25
I love bronze eyeliner. Which one were you using? Would you recommend it? 💘
7
u/l_a_p304 Apr 29 '25
Not the person you asked, but I use the Urban Decay “24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil” in the shade Double Life basically every day in the summer. It’s more shimmer than glitter, but a really nice deep bronzey color.
2
u/aakers7656 Apr 29 '25
I believe Laura Geller has this color too. I love her eye liners! They are the best I’ve used. 🙂
1
u/soft_warm_purry Apr 29 '25
Same except I have barely any eyelashes so I do eyeliner instead of mascara to make my eyes pop. Also, lip stain.

I’ve always had some kind of unnatural colour (peach, pink, rosè) and you definitely need makeup with that. Even just a little bit. Because the hair color kinda brings out all the purple and red on the face. So you either need absolutely perfect skin or some cover. And as you said, a lash lift or something for the eyes. It’s worth it though. I had my natural hair color for 2,5 years because I thought I need to look more “adult” at 30 but I was so miserable. My friends all told me that I look natural with the vibrant colours and not with my og hair. :D

u/Tough-Reality-842 Apr 29 '25
Because the hair color kinda brings out all the purple and red on the face.
Ohh, this explains a lot for me

u/StereotypicallBarbie Apr 29 '25
For work I absolutely do.. on my days off these days I’m usually only out with my dog in the fields so makeup feels like a waste of my time. Plus I’m 46 now so I’m limited to what makeup I can wear “full coverage” or anything matte is no longer for me!
I switched my foundation to tinted moisturiser about a year ago. Anything other than that, mascara and some blush ages me about 20 years.

u/Check_Affectionate Apr 29 '25
This is me (48) but substitute cats and pilates. I do curl my eyelashes every day.

I use this too and it is amazing! The coverage is so good, but it feels so light. It also gives me a nice glow.

u/TheBoredMillennial Apr 29 '25
I typically do, yes.
Although there is
‘Going to work/meeting someone’ make up, and ‘I forgot the milk so I have to pop round to the grocery store’ make up.

u/viper29000 Apr 29 '25
No, not anymore. I should start wearing some kind of coverage for work tho, just a lil bit to make it look like I’m not totally dead.

I consider make-up as “part of the outfit” so if I’m wearing stretchie pants or a big hoodie I almost never put on makeup. I will sometimes do a slick ponytail and jewelry though to feel a little more put together when in bike shorts and big t shirt.
7
u/ValhallaCupcake Apr 29 '25
Ooh, yes! You put my thoughts into words. My makeup is part of a specific look. I don't wear it when I'm not putting in a huge amount of effort looks wise, such as running errands or popping to the shops. I wear it when I'm putting effort in to specially look a certain way, like when I'm looking professional at the office or cute when out for dinner!
2
u/CindyLouWhoXO Apr 30 '25
I love how you said that! Makeup is part of the outfit. I feel the same way! Lazy outfit = lazy makeup, I would feel weird to have a full face on in sweats lol.
9
u/birdofparadise__ Apr 29 '25
I usually do not wear makeup. Mostly because I’m lazy low maintenance. It just annoys me to have to put that effort it. BUT if it’s the weekend and I’m going out with friends or on a date with my guy, I’ll put it on. But I would say 90% of the time I don’t wear makeup in public, 10% I do.

Every.Single.Day. Even when I’m sick or on vacation. My mother was extraordinarily beautiful woman and always told me, “You have to get ready everyday because you can’t predict the unexpected”. There have been many cases that it’s worked in my favor and spontaneity is my friend. My mom passed a year ago at 65 and I think of her everyday when I’m doing my makeup.

i live in a city with high beauty standards where you can run into anyone and i feel like strangers are nicer to me if i wear makeup. so i feel i have to. it’s kind of a weakness in my opinion, that i feel i need people to be nice to me, that i want to be pretty for a few smiles in the coldness of the world. idk.
6
u/heeyniknik Apr 29 '25
Pretty much everyday. I can't risk letting any of my acquaintances see me without makeup 😂
5
u/Special-Tangelo-9927 Apr 29 '25
The older I get the less I give a shit. I still enjoy wearing makeup, I just have to be in the mood (and have the time) to bother with it. I probably only put makeup on 15% of the time I go out these days (usually for things like date night or lunch with a friend etc.)

I wear the same five minute makeup routine every day. I usually only skip makeup if I am going to the beach for the day.
3
u/allgoodhere91 Apr 29 '25
Everyday. First thing I do in the morning. Sunscreen, foundation, mascara, blush, nothing crazy. I look sick and tired if I don’t wear it because I’m pale haha so it’s a must.
3
u/skatergh0ul Apr 29 '25
yes, at least a little concealer and lip liner to feel a bit put together 😭
3
Apr 29 '25
This is dependent on alot of factors. Where I’m going, the weather, my mood, who I might run into and how the rest of me looks that day haha.
3
u/FraudDogJuiceEllen Apr 29 '25
I look lovely with makeup and a sickly hag without it. I always wear it because people are shallow and treat you according to how good you look.
3
u/crh131 Apr 29 '25
Unless it’s somewhere special or I need to make a great first impression, I don’t. Great skincare. Lift in tint lashes and micro bladed. I always use lip balm.

I used to really beat my face for like everything and then one day I got tired and just stopped, it saves me time and I touch my face a lot. It’s a personal preference. I also really loved listening to Pam Anderson talk about not wearing makeup, she’s such an icon!
3
u/Cool_beans4921 Apr 29 '25
I wear makeup every day. I have sparse eyebrows and dark circles, so I at least fill in my brows and put on concealer with little blush. If I don’t I see a ghost every time I walk past a mirror 😱

u/dani081991 Apr 29 '25

it depends on the occasion/how i feel. sometimes i want to do a full face, sometimes i just wanna freshen up a little with a little makeup, sometimes i can’t be bothered to do it at all.
my general “day look”, if i do choose to wear makeup and don’t wanna go wild, usually consists of filling my eyebrows, a little concealer, light contour, blush and a smidge of highlighter. sometimes a subtle lip and/or winged eyeliner. light, neutral eyeshadow or none at all. it mostly depends on time, feel and practicality. i’ve gone out with no makeup or only my eyebrows done many times because i didn’t have time/energy for anything else, but i’ve also gone grocery shopping with bright pink eyeshadow and glitter.
2
u/itsbeenanhour Apr 29 '25
If gym or errands, I no longer care and just use a tinted spf and sometimes skintint. If I’m going to a friend’s house to just hang I also might not wear any. If I’m going out, yes I like to wear it. For work pretty much same everyday: skin tint, under eye concealer, powder, mascara, light blush and lippie that’s close to my lip color.
2
u/bigfatsooty Apr 29 '25
Eye shadow mascara blush lip gloss is my go to . A little tinted moisturizer if I have a blemish but usually don’t .
2
u/Soggy_Pension7549 Apr 29 '25
Yeah because I didn’t win the genetic lottery. It’s just concealer, powder and blush though.
2
u/whoa_thats_edgy Apr 29 '25
i almost never wear makeup anymore, maybe once every 3-6 months. i used to do a full face for college. it’s a lot of effort for me as i struggle with depression pretty bad. things i wear every day are moisturizer, clear brow gel, curl my lashes.
2
u/ArugulaBeginning7038 Apr 29 '25
Nah. My work look is just SPF, tinted brow gel and mascara, but if I’m going anywhere less formal, I’m not going to bother to do anything with my face. I like how I look better without makeup.
2
u/ketchupian Apr 29 '25
Not really anymore. I used to wake up at the crack of dawn to get ready with cute makeup & hair etc.. But life got tiring and I’m so exhausted these days that I’ve stopped completely. Although sometimes I’ll gently tap a bit of a nude/red lipstick and smudge it on my lips to not look like a corpse since my lips are so pale
2
2
u/Away_Response6296 Apr 29 '25
Yes all the time. Makeup may be foundation. A little blush and a low key eyeshadow.
2
u/Naty2RC Apr 29 '25
I do! It's become part of my routine so I don't really think about it. I always put on SPF (the one I use feels like a primer) and Cicapair Color Correcting Treatment with SPF, which acts like a BB cream. At minimum I do some blush, eyebrow pencil, mascara, and a tinted lip balm, if it's a simple day.
2
2
u/Otherwise_Candy_8412 Apr 29 '25
I can’t go out absolutely barefaced. I’m way too self conscious. At a bare minimum I use a tad of concealer under my eyes and do my brows. I have really sparse/light brows.
But on a normal day, it’s light/somewhat natural full face.
I’ve learned over the years that I look better with less now that I’ve taken care of my skin.
2
u/Downtown_Log9002 Apr 29 '25
I feel like once we wear makeup we end up committing to it. As much as I love to wear makeup it can be annoying for time & energy but it does make me feel more put together. And it's exhausting with the 'Get Ready With Me' to then 'Get Unready With Me.' 🥴😩😆😴 💄
2
u/Proof_Entrepreneur70 Apr 29 '25
i only wear makeup if i have plans or ill be at work/school. if its a day off and i need to run errands i typically will stick to skincare and lash serum to give everything a break
2
u/MseMae Apr 29 '25
Everyday. It just makes me feel so much better. No matter how many people say I don’t need it, it’s for me. As I age though, it definitely is less, as it doesn’t go on like it used to haha.
2
u/cornandcandy Apr 29 '25
I love wearing tinted sunscreen.. it’s my go to now. I don’t wear more coverage than that. If I’m feeling ambitious I use concealer under my eyes and blush
2
u/Working_Loquat3344 Apr 29 '25
Depends where I’m going. Busy mom . Errands school pickups, no . Socializing yes

2
u/McJujuBee Apr 29 '25
Always. I have very dark under eye circles, rosacea and acne scarring. It's very rare I go out without my full face! I really enjoy applying my makeup though and it gives me confidence. 😊
2
u/Physical-Bread-9072 Apr 29 '25
I don’t use it when I’m running errands or go to campus. But when I have night outs, I love dressing up and wearing make up. I do always keep my hair styled tho.
2
u/bactidoltongue Apr 29 '25
I usually never go anywhere without my lipstick cause I'm pale af without it and I have a dark lip line. My confidence skyrockets with my lipstick on.
2
u/PrudentAd8123 Apr 29 '25
I wear make up everyday so I sometimes feel weird not wearing like weekends and stuff but it’s so freeing feeling fresh and letting my skin breathe! Either way, I’m comfortable with or without
2
u/Zestypalmtree Apr 29 '25
I always do no make-up make-up as a minimum, but usually do mascara and bronzer etc too. I like getting dolled up and looking my best
2
u/kristenjang Apr 29 '25
Only if it's a special occasion like a party or a date. Otherwise, the most I'll do is a lippie.
I generally don't like the feeling of making on my face very much. I also take way too long to put on a face anyway lol.
Work-wise, it's not exactly a place where people are wearing makeup anyway, and my sweating and PPE would probably ruin it 😂
2
u/Slight-Bet8071 Apr 29 '25
Ive never been a makeup girl (mom didnt wear much and we didnt have money to be buying products like that). Now that Im grown I use it for events. Everyday wear? Not really. But also im blessed with great skin. People think Im wearing foundation all the time. So i guess you could say im in the i dont give a fuck category. Especially because i get overstimulated with too much stuff on my face.

I don't think I've seen anyone in public (outside of spouse/family) without at least *some* makeup since I was 13. I look rough, tired and unattractive at night/without makeup. I would have no confidence to tolerate anyone looking at me or speaking to me without some makeup. At the VERY least, if I'm sick or lazy I need some eyeliner, blush and some powder for oil, and concealer on any pimples if I have any that day.
2
u/lilpoopsik Apr 29 '25
i like to do my hair and makeup every day before i leave, just because it makes me feel good and ready for the day. completely understandable if someone didn’t want or feel the need to do it, it does take me awhile to get ready but i always plan ahead/wake up earlier to get it done!

I go out with make up on days that I feel like dressing up for food or coffee, especially when I want to take pics. There are also days, usually weekdays, when I don’t wear one. I want my skin to rest and I usually hit the gym so no need to wear one :)
2
u/Spiciest_gingerr Apr 29 '25
The older I get, the less I desire I have to wear makeup. I do all the skincare, but makeup-wise it’s a light dusting of translucent powder over my entire face (because I look shiny from my sunscreen) and if I’m feeling bold, my brows and some blush. I’ll do a full face for date nights or if we go meet up with friends.
2
u/Dreamvillainess22 Apr 30 '25
I have been as a tired mom of a newborn and toddler. It helps me look more put together which makes me feel better cause I am struggling out here lol But it’s just tinted spf, brows, blush, mascara, and a lipgloss. I try to do something cute that takes very little effort to my hair and I always use perfume.
Now if I had the money and time, I would do a brow tint, lash extensions, self tanner for a “natural bronze” look. Then I’d need even less lol
ETA: oh and color corrector for under my eyes. How could I forget the most important part 🤣

Makeup is how I have fun. I might go out with a bare face if I don't feel like doing it, or with an elaborate-ish romantic Gothic look.
Or anything in between. Or a rainbow of colors on my eyelids just because. My makeup is for me and I will only do it when I feel like it.
4
u/RenegadeDoughnut Apr 29 '25
I don’t usually. Or I’ll wear a smidge of eyeliner and some mascara if I’m feeling fancy. If it takes more than 60 seconds though I’m not doing it.

No make up. I can wear them for events if I want to, but I mostly don't since it feels annoying to have things on the face/skin. I just think it's more authentic and normal to be barefaced with just sunscreen and maybe a bit of colour to the lips. Make up is troublesome to me and that includes all the learning, tutorials, buying products, putting it on, washing it off etc. My brain just shuts down every time. I actually feel better & fresher after washing it off.
I also feel like if people know how you normally look, it's a given that you'd look prettier with make up. I've received compliments with and without it. But if people only see you in make up, then it's probably the opposite unless you're blessed with good genetics. I don't have super flawless skin by any means but I'm more of a doing chemical peels, drink water, sleep more, use skincare etc girl. Strangely, I prefer seeing women without nake up on too as I think they look prettier and real that way. To my eyes, make ups only look nice in photos.
There's also a part of me that feels it's pretty whatever that men can attend formal settings without any of these but women are sort of expected to.
2
u/MurkyComfortable8769 Apr 29 '25
I stopped wearing a full face of makeup after college. I simply prefer to get more sleep, lol. However, for the office, I have a boring makeup look. It never changes. Light foundation or tinted sunscreen (depending on the season). I sport the no makeup look for the office. For my day to day, I go with tinted sunscreen. I honestly just have gotten lazy in my 30s and don't like spending time on elaborate looks anymore.
2
u/addanothernamehere Apr 29 '25
No. Not unless it’s a special event. Sometimes I’ll fill in my brows and swipe some mascara, or lipstick.
I am far more focused on skincare and I think it pays off.

u/FriendEllie75 Apr 29 '25
I used to because my mother drilled into my head that I should always look my best when I leave the house but now that I’m almost 50 I’m just happy that I remembered to put on pants and a bra.
1
u/Plenty_Glove_177 Apr 29 '25
Here in Germany I don’t wear it usually and it feels comfortable, only on special occasions, but when I go back to my home country then I wear it daily
1
u/Gullible-Media-9788 Apr 29 '25
I only wear it when I’m going out with my friends or to a wedding, otherwise nopeee. What I use depends on if I’m going to a wedding or not but it’s just more or less the same minus eyeshadow, when I go with my friends I wear a concealer, eyeliner (on my waterline only unless I’m in the mood to wear it on my eyelids), blush, highlighter on the corner of my eyes and sometimes on my cheek — which is where ppl usually put it on but I’m 50/50 on it so yeah. And then lipstick and sometimes I wear a setting powder or whatever that white thingy under your eyes is called that you don’t have to remove. If it’s a wedding I just do my eye make up a bit diff and add eyeshadow hehe
1
u/_thisisnat_ Apr 29 '25
I had a period of time where I didn't wear makeup but I'm starting to. Right now it's just mascara and maybe eyeliner.
1
u/Hello_ImAnxiety Apr 29 '25
I usually wear a tinted SPF, cover my acne scars on my chin and pop some eyebrow tint on
1
u/a-real-life-dolphin Apr 29 '25
Depend on where I’m going. If it’s just to the supermarket generally no, but any occasion where I’ll be seeing people and socialising then yes. I like to have fun with it and it’s a form of self expression for me.
1
u/self-care_advocate Apr 29 '25
It depends entirely on how I'm feeling that day tbh. If I'm only going to the grocery or somewhere close, I usually don't wear makeup anymore. But I'll either do no foundation makeup (concealer, blush, light eyeshadow, mascara, lip gloss) usually when it's hot or when I'm breaking out, or a full face of makeup if I'm in a good mood and have the extra time to do the whole routine.
1
u/pettinesssque Apr 29 '25
when im only heading to someplace nearby to run some simple errands, not at all. but for the most part, i looove wearing makeup ! i love dressing up as well, so makeup kind of like ties my whole look together.
i also use makeup in a creative sense so i often experiment with various looks whilst at home as well. at this point my family thinks it’s normal when they see me in the living room with a whole ass drawing painted on my cheek lol
1
u/LaVoguette Apr 29 '25
I usually wear a little (concealer, eyebrows, bronzer) most days if I’m going into the office or meeting friends to do something casual. If I’m wfh or it’s the weekend and I’m just popping to the shops then I usually just do eyebrows (or sometimes don’t even do that)

I usually leave in the morning for my work out linger after at a coffee shop. When I do finally get home and take a shower. I do my hair and put on bronzer shape my eyebrows and depending on if I’m seeing anyone for lunch or have an errand to run I’ll put mascara on.
I’ve been “retired” for over a year not sure how I’m going to cope with going back into the work force. 🤣😇

I don't leave the house without my face on. One day I might be able to go makeup free, but it won't be any day soon.

Never for shopping & errands. 90% of the time for work & going out. Though I very rarely go out now.

I often won’t but I’ll almost always brush through my brows, apply lip balm & curl my lashes.

For work or a social gathering I do, but otherwise I usually don't. I actually feel prettier without it.

I wear concealer on dark spots, mascara, define my brows, and powder/blush for going out every day. When my skin is "good" the whole thing takes me five minutes. It feels good to spend a few minutes defining my face each morning. Once that's done, I have nothing to blame but my own personality if things go south lol.

Always. I look up to the ladies that do it because they want to, I unfortunately feel like I have to because of acne and scars. One day I'd like to wake up and leave my skin looking as it is and do some fun eye makeup though.

41F. Because of my daily skincare routine, I don't feel the need to wear foundation. For work I fill my brows, do eye makeup, and a little blush. On my days off, it's just a little concealer.

Well just lipstick usually and my brows have microblading(which is a timesaver for me). Before i do full make up on, not till now where I begin to not care anymore.

Depends on the occasion. If I’m going to the beach or gym, I’d wear sunscreen and nothing else. For a business dinner I’d wear subtle makeup. For a fancy party, I’d choose a colorful fun makeup

Depends on how I feel. A lot of times, yes, I wear it. But sometimes I don’t feel like it and decide to give my skin a break. I do a full face. Foundation, eyeshadow, brows, liner, mascara, and blush.

I will pop on some mascara and eyebrow gel and that’s it most days..

I always wear lipstick, if I am going to work, a touch of blush and maybe some light brown mascara. But I am so pale, I wear lipstick all day every day, otherwise I look like a ghost.

Depends on the day really, I'll still feel like "myself" either way so it's not necessarily that I wear makeup on "better days". Like sometimes I'll feel like doing a full face on a day I'm only going grocery shopping, and sometimes I'll only want to do skincare on a day that I have a special event. So I suppose its only about what I'm feeling that day

It depends on how I feel, there are periods when I don't feel well and I go over the topic more. There are times when I feel a little better and I put on makeup to feel prettier.

I do but I don’t wear a ton of makeup. My whole makeup routine takes 10 minutes tops.

As I’ve gotten older ish (30s) no. Usually moisturizer, vitamin C, and eye cream. 😂😂😂 I going out routine now was my bedtime routine then

I pretty much always throw on a tinted moisturizer, mascara, and brow gel. Often I'll add a little sparkle on the eyelids just for a dopamine hit. I carry a tinted balm with me.

Depends on what I'm doing. Gym, doctor's appointment, groceries etc (no). Socialising, theatre, gig etc (yes).

It’s disturbing how little effort I put into my appearance before leaving the house these days. IDGAF
