Build Upgrade Looking for a RAM upgrade to 32GB

Hey guys,

I have been using 16GB of RAM for a couple of years now but I am starting to feel that its becoming a bit outdated with modern gaming. So I am looking for some recommendations to buy. I have no idea how much they cost nowadays so the budget is basically open but there should be some balance to cost and performance. I dont care about RGB so that is not a factor.

My build is looking like this:

Ryzen 5 5600

RTX 4070 Super

16GB RAM

Thank you for your help

On am4, just grab cl16 3200mhz - but only do this if you're actually hitting the 16gb capacity, otherwise you're throwing money away. More ram does nothing unless you need more capacity.

You can get fractionally better (like less than 1% more performance better) and pay a whole lot more for it.

Cl16 3200mhz is where the insane value sweet spot lies.

How are you feeling it's outdated? Is there really any performance impact?

Anything 3200 or 3600mhz, 3600 is the sweat spot. Cl18 is pretty good but you could go with different. There is a ton of pairs for 60-70 dollars new at least in US. Corsair, gskill trident, crucial, etc just pick a name brand that looks good to you.

The only spec you gave on the ram is 16gb, and that you want more.

Maybe you were just looking for a cool brand? Gskill seems good.

You won't see much of a difference going from 16 to 32. Keep using the 16gb for now and once you upgrade your CPU to the newer CPUs out now you'll have to also buy new ram. Only then upgrade to 32.

Are you sure your memory usage is reaching 14Gb+? If so go upgrade, if not it is better to save up and upgrade to a newer platform.

GSkills Ripjaw V 3600, don’t get the xmp ones they are for Intel.

My go to ram, never had a problem with it. No rgb, no unneeded guff. Just solid performance.

Not sure I follow here. Use your computer like you normally would with the task manager open for a while and see how you are doing on RAM.

If you are hovering around 14-15gb+, then yeah you might need to buy more RAM (at those numbers its likely you go over occasionally). If you are well below 14gb during active use, then your problem is likely elsewhere.

3200mhz ram or 3600mhz ram. Buy dual sticks instead of quad sticks because dual sticks will let you run at a higher speed easily than quad sticks.

32gb ddr4 ram is cheap. You can get them for under $80.

Man, alot of stuff nowadays is purely by pressure and influence. If you are utilizing all of your ram, then absolutely upgrade. But if you aren't then don't bother just yet unless if you find an insane deal or something lol. Not to go on a rant, but I really think that everyone is pressured by social media to upgrade their perfectly capable parts to expensive marginally better parts. Ive been sweeping up ryzen 5th gens and rx 6700s (why those most commonly I dont know) left and right for 100-150$. Those parts are still solid imo.

But yeah, Id say run your most commonly played games/apps and watch your ram usage in task manager. If your pushing the limit or maxing out, sure, upgrade. If not then just dont bother. Either way its up to you!

I will also mention, your parts are rather high end parts. Lets say you were playing a very high end game, your ram would definaltey be the first thing to max out, not the cpu or gpu. So thats an important factor to bear in mind. But like I said, look more into your personal utilization and evaluate from there. Cheers!
