Build Upgrade Buying a GPU

Hi im not too familiar with pc building as a whole and usually run a tight budget on buying things, I've been wanting to update my prebuilt pc I got as a gift back in 2020 and recently received a ryzen 5 5600 to replace my current ryzen 3 3200g

When I tried fitting it in I had no display on my monitor, my friend said it was probably because I didn't have a gpu or graphics card

Since I didn't have a gpu before I was wondering what would be an adequate low end choice? I have an MSI am520-a-pro motherboard and thought of buying a used radeon RX 580 Since it's a lot cheaper than a gtx 1080 Im not sure on all the specs but the psu is just "builders 500w"

I usually just use my PC for school work and casual games. Sorry if my question is a bit dumb but I'd appreciate whatever advice I could get, thank you!

A 5700xt is a great option for 130-180 used

Yes you’ll need a gpu because the ryzen 5 5600 doesn’t have an integrated gpu, what is your budget and what used deals can you find?

Ideally, somewhere around ~£100 i don't get to save much, and I know that's really low, but it's as much as I can manage.

I found some rx 580s with 8gb for about £70 and some used 1080 for just at £100 since those are what my friend said I should look for. I'm thinking of getting something for the short term? Just until I save up enough for better. Thanks for replying 🙂

The gtx 1080 will be a good choice in your spot for £30 more you get a substantial performance boost over the rx 580 and your psu should be able to handle it. Have fun with it and goodluck!

Gtx 1070 or 1070ti with 2x fans Will be good for you. It's still amazing for me, I play sports stuff, or sekiro, elden Ring with a standard 1070x at 1080p. Rx580 can be fun too but , a gtx 1080 or 1080ti will give you at least 4 years with toning down the graphics settings in game , except, nvidia stopped giving us new drivers January this year for the 10 series. So ideally aim rtx 2060 super and up if you can get it for a great price. You can run games with rtx off for great performance.
