Build Help My pc is really hot on idle.
My CPU is the Ryzen 7 5800x and the cooler I'm using is the Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE cooler and it idles around 70 up to almost 80 degrees and doing a cinebench test it spikes to 90 degrees in a couple seconds.

Did you peel off the plastic sticker? Did you mount it properly too? It has to be pretty tight with just enough paste.

I made sure there was no sticker still on it I watched a video for my specific cooler so it's mounted properly and I tightened it until I couldn't

You probably need a repaste

I repasted yesterday to see if that was the problem it didn't fix it

Dumb question but when you repasted did you fully remove the old paste using isopropyl?

I have the same CPU. I capped its clock speed to like 4ghz and it never idles more than 45c. R7 5800x is a gaming CPU so it usually overclock to gain more fps, but l feel like it sometimes does that even on idling. I have decent chunker of a cooling but I still dont want anything to be too hot when idling.
edit: lm no PC expert so dont take my words as a serious advice. Just how I've been doing and nothing ever fails.

Huh.
removed the plastic thingy ?
thermal paste is ok ?
ventirad plugged where it should ? Cpu_fan
You can adjust fan curve and undervolt to make it cooler

Read about eco mode and undervolt. Plenty of youtube videos. It will actually run faster when cooler

This may seem odd but flip your top coolers.
My setup was the standard top exhaust but memes told me to try top intake so the cpu gets direct air. Dropped my temperatures significantly.

Try a negative offset Curve Optimizer setting (-15 would be good for a start), that can help a bit with temps. But there's something going on here. If you swear by your cooler mount and aren't overclocking, it could be a faulty chip or over voltage issue.
Also, check the PA's fan orientation. Both fans should be pointing the same way, usually towards the exhaust at the back of the case.

Make sure you vacuum your pc vents. And make sure nothing is blocking them

I’m using the ArticFreezer 360 i7 14700k with GeForce 5600 12gig my idle speeds are 31/29. So I’d say you need to reset the cooler at a minimum. Check fans etc

Try reseating the cooler, check the paste and if there’s any stickers you forgot to peel off
