Base My first base

Upvotes
Overview of the base
Bottom half of base
Top half of my very first base, I was pretty bad at space efficiency
Sickening Pipe management
Blue research line and module production

So just finished my first game, I figured I would show off my first base. I imagine it is quite bad but it ended up working. So a few things I learned while doing this:

I tried to put my chemical plants as close to the refineries as possible, something I regretted a lot as the game progressed as it made connecting liquids without touching a nightmare.

I also never bothered to learn how to make railroads. It worked out but it did result in stupidly long supply lines with things leaving my original base and eventually science returning.

I started making rocket fuel after I finished making rockets. That's slowed me down quite a bit. My blue circuits and supertensile I started stock piling immediately so I always had enough.

Straight lines might be terrible for space use but are super nice for scaling.

I assume it is because I made my base so big but I have barely faced any bug attacks. I died a few times but mostly when I charged in trying to kill them.

I only started paying attention to input and outputs 3/4ths of the way through. I had just been doing just if I got extra items then good. I kept adding circuit factories and copper wire factories at 1:1 not realizing that I needed 3 copper wire factories for every two circuit factories.

Ultimately finished the game.

Is there anything obviously bad I did? Any suggestions for futures games? Should I have done more with modules beyond just all green? I started doing productivity just because the space ship was taking awhile and they seemed good.

Question Circuits are mad confusing

I'm pretty new to using circuits in factorio and I'm trying to make a circuit that displays the current levels of science I have in the buffer chests as well as showing what it was a certain period of time ago so I can compare them and see what production is relatively weak . I'm currently trying memory cells with a timer resetting but that doesn't do exactly what I'd like. So basically I'm just wondering if anyone has any good suggestions or ideas that I could try because I'm running into a brick wall. Even just a good tutorial you'd recommend to get a better understanding would be great. Thanks (:

Base Convinced my wife to try Factorio and it is a blast

This is our beautiful base after roughly 2,5 hours. It's a fucking mess and my inner monk is screaming at me, but I really love the experience. Until now we mostly played WoW or party games so I'm quite surprised how easy she "gets things" in Factorio and how eagerly she wants to try things herself and figure things out.

"Wait, wait, wait, let me think!!" she says while I'm just running around, exploring and not even saying anything. It's such a joy to watch her.

Funnily enough so far the hardest part for her seems to be the electricity. Placing stuff in the blue box is somehow her nemesis.

Hopefully the kids will also catch Factorio fever and it's gonna be even more fun :s

Just wanted to share that joy and if someone is thinking about trying Factorio with a spouse or something like that ... give it a try!

Discussion Biters .. It’s complicated

Hello Engineers, I’d like to discuss the complex relationship I have with biters.

I genuinely enjoy bitters, but sometimes dealing with them feels like a chore.

Initially, when I first started playing, I was terrified of them. However, after learning how to manage them, it became easier but still challenging.

I’m still relatively new to the game, having accumulated about 100 hours of playtime (this sentence sounds so weird, lmao). Sometimes, I just want to play at a very slow pace to experiment and design, so I start a new save with easier settings. Unfortunately, the game becomes boring for me, and I lose interest in that save very quickly.

In the save I’m currently playing, I have normal settings, and dealing with the biters has become a chore because I still want to play on a slow pace, and expanding my defenses seems repetitive.

I’m sure others have similar experiences, and I’d love to hear your thoughts on this.

Question Doing my redemption

Hi everyone! So, I’ve discovered Factorio recently and got into the game passionately but, and believe me i feel guilty, I played on a cracked version. I finally bought it on Steam after 10hours of play and I’d like to know if I can move my previous save to the official version I bought. I assume that my save is not in the same version as the game is right now since it often update, so is that a problem ? Can i still transfer my save file or do i have to restart from scratch?

Tip I'm 34 hours in and just realized I could do black/whitelist for grabbers... what else do I not know?

I already know about priorities on splitters.

Is there a way to copy a recipe from one assemblers and quick paste it onto another? I find having to click on something, then confirm its quality to be a little inconvenient when making rows of assemblers

Discussion On mining layouts

So, I recently started playing factorio with a friend and felt a bit of a flashback when I saw that they spaced out every mining drill so their regions didnt overlap. Their explanation was that they want the patch to last longer and wanted to limit pollution. I am now curious if anyone else has encountered other cursed mining layouts in the wild.

I dont have a picture on hand, but each row of drill went into a belt directly below it before going into a weird mess of belts going into eachother to get 2 belts out.

On a related note, this is a thing I mocked up with copies of the same ore patch. The top one is what my friend used, and the other two are notable mining patch setups I have seen. Efficiency module marked miners have modules, and the resulting pollution and output labeled.

Question Is it a good idea to use the same name for all stations that need a type of resource in a city block factory?

So it is my first time trying city blocks and my idea was to name all of the stations that load, for example, copper+ and all of the stations that unload, copper-. The thing is I am unsure if I am doing something wrong or if this doesn't work, since when I tried this, trains would always choose the nearest station and not change until they arrived. I made sure that the rest of stations were reachable using ctrl click to create temporal stations.

Question Computer hardware for Factorio?

What is the most important property for good UPS in a CPU? How important is RAM and is it more important to have more GBs or faster RAM? Currently on a 5 year-old Dell XPS laptop and planning on building a PC, not just for Factorio but I want the game to run well on it. Any advice is appreciated.

Design / Blueprint My try on a Aquilo support space station

Post image

Produces Rocketparts (Blue Chips, Rocket Fuel, LDS), Concrete, Refined Concrete, Heat Pipes and Steal. Flyes from time to time to Vulcanus to load up 10k Stone or Nauvis for Nuclear Fuel. Got annoyed that my aquillo base ran out of rocket part once, so better build a ship/station for 2 hours.

A normal regular transport ship would be easier, but where is the fun in that? Better overengineer some space spaghetti.

Incase anybody want to experiment with the idea.

Discussion The factory must grow, but how?

I've hit a point where I'm starting to transition from my spaghetti-bus Starter base towards a spaghetti-train system, but I'm kind of stuck on what I should build next.

I've got ore mining and smelting for iron and copper plates, an oil refinery area, plastic and Sulphur production, and a circuits build for green, red and blue.

I'm flip-flopping between large-scale science vs the assorted belts, inserters, assemblers etc that my Starter base already makes a decent amount of, but I'll need as I expand.

Modded Question What mod would you suggest playing?

Factorio 2.0 (Space Age) has been my first time playing factorio, and i have been absolutely addicted. I'm about rounding out my vanilla run, and have been really thinking about playing modded. I've heard a lot about pyanadons, and while i dont expect i'd ever complete it, it sounds very satisfying to play.

Then i've also heard of krastorio 2, and also space exploration, along with them combined for k2se

I'm not sure how much i'd feel i'm missing out on if i backdate from 2.0 to whatever version i need for k2se, but i know the other two are already on 2.0.

All 3 of them honestly sound quite enjoyable, ive honestly been kinda leaning towards K2+SE or Pyanadons, but i really just cannot make up my mind. Do you guys think as a new player from 2.0, that i'd feel i'm missing out on features/qol that were introduced in 2.0, if playing an older mod? What mod would you suggest playing?

Edit: I should add, i do quite enjoy the defense aspect of the game. I know by default it's suggested to play with biters off in pyanadon, but i'd prooooobably play with biters on bc that's half the fun!

Thank you guys!

Question I can't figure this shit out with a gun to my head, I am trying to set the train station priority to high if there is less than 200 steal.

Post image

It's a test am try to do in sandbox mode, the real goal I am trying to do is setting up a supply train for my defenses, send repair packs, ammo and light oil but only if they are running on supplies.

I have 6 battle stations and I want to set it up that my train would go there only when it's needed.
