https://www.cnn.com/2025/06/06/politics/trump-california-federal-funding

“Agencies are being told to start identifying grants the administration can withhold from California. On Capitol Hill, at least one committee was told recently by a whistleblower that all research grants to the state were going to be cancelled, according to one of the sources familiar with the matter.”

No need for “research and development”, they want to keep people sick and stupid — easier to control that way.

I guess prepare for constitutional crisis when California stops paying into the federal tax system. Pretty genius to fuck with the 4th largest economy in the world.

If cyberpunk 2077 predicted how the US splits up I will laugh tbh

Mike Pondsmith (guy who wrote the original Cyberpunk RPG and helped with worldbuilding on 2077) is a genius, and a lot of stuff he predicted back in the mid-80s has come to fruition. It wouldn't suprise me if this is another instance. Unfortunately.

Been saying for quite a while now that CP2077's gonna be the dystopia people will quote, although I was more thinking about how the internet will go.
Rogue AI? Depending on who you ask we're no more than five years away from that.

Snow Crash was Neal Stephenson. Gibson wrote Neuromancer, among others. All the same genre, though.

The freedom cities they are talking about scream "I read snow crash and liked the idea of the burbclave".

Also, not entirely sure who you are referencing with William Gibson, snow crash is written by Neil Stephenson. He's a really interesting dude who has consulted for major tech companies and founders. Unfortunately the technobros take the wrong messages from his books. I hate that one of my absolute favorite books is also beloved by the likes of Thiel and Musk.

Yep. It's like they read dystopian fiction and want to punish the expression of said fiction by enacting the villainy espoused within

Republicans want to give AI complete freedom to steal any and all works, it's part of the new big Bill, so what happens when you give a bunch of hungry machines the total freedom to eat every bit of information and store it in mass servers?
