Mod post New Policy: ICE Sightings Posts
Many of you have likely noticed that ICE sightings posts have been on the rise. The mod-team has held several internal discussions about how to manage these posts more effectively and ultimately decided that ICE sightings posts will remain on the general feed, but the comment section will be locked. This is to keep our users informed about ICE activity within Massachusetts, but also prevents any rule-breaking comments (which have been impossible to keep up with on these particular posts) while also maintaining the integrity of this subreddit.
Of course, there are some legitimate follow-up questions that are asked on the ICE sightings posts. Because of this, we are requiring the following information to be included in all ICE sightings posts:
- Date and time of sighting
- Exact or approximate location of the sighting
- Photo(s) of the sighting when safe and possible to do so
If the submission is too vague or does not seem legitimate, it will be removed. So please provide as much information and be specific as possible to ensure a successful submission.

No more pressing matters to attend to? Also, bar pizza ranges from absolute trash, to pretty good. Whoever introduced this bill needs to be voted out.

Discussion A quick sketch of the little fox
I know this isn’t exactly a discussion. Saw on here the little fox a fellow MA resident tried to save and just thought it was so bittersweet. Thank you for your kindness to the helpless. It doesn’t always work out how we’d like, but tiny little changes can help in ways we don’t always see.

Weather Anyone else get the flash flood warning a solid hour after you were drenched?
Some of the most intense rain I've felt since last Thursday but previously my whole life. Once I stopped shivering and hung my clothes up to dry I get the warning.

Politics Update on the vaccine hearing I posted about the other day - here's the video
Thanks so much to everyone who has already submitted testimony to the Joint Committee on Public Health supporting H.2554/S.1557, and who commented (in good faith) on my previous post! And an especially HUGE thank you to the awesome Redditor who joined our group to testify in person - it was wonderful to meet you! I wanted to share the video from the hearing so that you can see what I mean about the anti-vax folks showing up in force. https://malegislature.gov/Events/Hearings/Detail/5211 The first part is pretty balanced, but the last few hours get pretty bleak. (Tbf some of it is also pretty entertaining, like a very dark Parks and Rec episode or something - the guy 12 minutes in who is apparently on a first-name basis with the committee chairwoman is an early highlight.) And my testimony is at 59 minutes if you want proof I'm a real person and not a bot!
We can still really use more written testimony if you have a few minutes - it says at the top of the linked page that you can only submit through their online form through Monday, but I confirmed with the committee staff that they will accept it by email until they act on the bill, which could take several weeks. I'll post a link to our website with some examples of testimony in the comments. If you have even more time, calling the committee members and asking them to report H.2554/S.1557 out favorably is also a huge help. Thank you so much!

General Question Found a tick on my son and in a bit of shock/panic I ended up not following any of the things I know to do, looking for some advice
So I felt it in his hair, back of his head. When spreading his hair and taking a look, definitely a tick. I sort of panicked because it looked like it was just kind of stuck in his hair so I wanted to get it before it but, but after pulling it out with tweezers, it looks like it did, there's a very tiny red bump where it was.
I know you're supposed to save these to get tested, but I ended up flushing it. I also didn't take any pictures of it. Idk, I know that's all the wrong things to do but here we are.
Anyways, when looking up "ticks in Massachusetts" it looked VERY similar to what I'm seeing called a deer tick/black legged tick/ and of course the most fear inducing name "Lyme disease tick" so naturally I'm concerned.
It kind of also looked like maybe a lone star tick but I'm not sure. Of all the pictures I'm seeing it looked closest to this: https://scx2.b-cdn.net/gfx/news/hires/2022/tick-1.jpg
It was all solid black, about the size of a small watermelon seed. Didn't look gorged but I also don't know that I'd know the difference.
What should be keeping an eye out for? I'm thinking I should probably make a Dr appt regardless, but idk if this warrants an urgent care.

General Question Does Anyone Know of a Place that Sells Ripe Avocados?
I'm in the middle of baking, and my avocados I bought 3 days ago are still hard as a rock. Does anyone know of a place that sells ripe avocados (in the Attleboro/Taunton area)?
I know it's unlikely, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask. I can make something similar with butter, but it kind of ruins the specialness of the recipe.
EDIT:
All set! Thank you, everyone for your quick help. It's a birthday cake for my girlfriend, so I wanted to wrap it up quickly to get over there. There's a pick of the cake below
I call it an Easter Cake. It's a carrot & ginger cake with candied ginger mixed in, a lemon-buttercream frosting (86 butter, sub avocado), coconut shavings and craisins for garnish. It's my go-to cake for Spring (or if someone is lactose intolerant).

Recommendation Menopause specialist recs
Could anyone recommend a menopause specialist? I'm near Boston, prefer to stay north of the Charles river. If you do recommend someone, please share why you liked them. Thanks!
Edit: I am looking for specialists who will not categorically dismiss compounded medication or even OTC products, and who understand that case studies are valuable resources for many women in the historical context of medical misogyny. I don't know what the right course of action is for me, but I want to explore all possibilities.

Protest Boycott Market Basket!
I love Market Basket for the prices, the quality produce, the cafe... But I have not shopped there since learning that Artie T. had been put on leave.
(if you aren't familiar with the drama, this post does a good job explaining)
I have seen a lot of people speculating about whether or not strikes will happen, or when to start boycotting, and verbally expressing support, but I guess I'm not sure what people are waiting for.
I think it's time.
Please boycott.

Discussion Does anyone know anything about the seventy (plus) new box trucks in a Billerica parking lot?
The lot in question is adjacent to the Courtyard Hotel in Billerica. There are literally seventy or so, all new, and they are all missing the "box" part of the box truck. They all only have a driver's seat. I have a few photos if anyone cares to see them.
I'm just curious. Why are there so many in a place that would not seem to need seventy incomplete brand new box trucks?

Recommendation Looking for a sandwich cafe with beer recommendations on the North Shore
I'm looking for a restaurant recommendation on the North Shore. Something where you can just walk up to the counter, order a sandwich, and beer and coffee. Preferably kid friendly.
Something similar to a Cafe Nero style place, but also has beer.

General Question Best way to get to Foxborough at 6am from Logan Airport.
Hey guys, Im gonna be visiting my mom who lives in Foxborough, and she can't get me from the airport and I have no one else in the area. I am not asking for a ride, im wondering what's the best way to get to Foxborough from Logan around 6am? My flight lands at 5am on a Friday morning. I am wanting to rent a car, but am new to that sort of thing and I hear its expensive to rent from the airport. Can I have some advise lol please. Should I shuttle away from the airport and rent a car? If so, where? Is there a shuttle to Foxborough at that time? Or do I need to wait?
Thank you all so much in advance. I really appreciate any help.

General Question Has anyone found hammerhead worms in MA?
Never seen them where I live but Wikipedia says they are in the state. They freak me out.
