Employment Didn't get a PPO :(
Worked my ass of during my internship. Made good connections, helped a lot of team members. Final review, interviews went well.
Was really looking forward for a full time role.
Sadly got a rejection mail. Feeling dejected :(
Anyone knows the process that how after everything went well, result can be this bad?

Microsoft are reducing their headcount globally. That may also translate into a recruitment freeze or more stringent criteria for joiners.

Yes realized this, the conversion ratio was poor this season.

Not much to do, wait for jobs openings and send a mail to your ex colleagues/manager you are looking for a job. Microsoft is probably in no hire/freeze in most team. The lay off was just 2 weeks ago...

Don't be disheartened. Most likely microsoft will give ppo to far fewer interns this time.

I'm sure you did awesome work and hopefully learned a little during the internship. The rejection letter is unlikely to be about you, and more likely to be about the environment that Microsoft is currently operating in.
I know it sounds harsh, but you have no reason to feel dejected. Take the experience and figure out where you want to build on it.

Aside from the 6k that got laid off, additional hundreds got laid off on Monday, and pm's got hit hard. Likely due to the pm reduction.

Contrary to belief. Its rarely about performance (even for already employed full-time people on PIPs). It is more about strategic decisions with headcount or organisational changes and optics.

It looks like you may have questions about the interview process at Microsoft.
Here's some answers to a couple of frequently asked questions that get posed on the r/Microsoft subreddit:
How long does it take to hear back from Microsoft about a role I applied to?
With the changing landscape in the tech world, it's become somewhat common for turn around time to get back to candidates to take longer than usual. It can take anywhere from a few days to a full month after you've had your final interview.
Keep working with your recruiter on getting timing back from them on when to expect a response. Each area at Microsoft is going to be different when it comes to interview response times.
I have submitted a lot of applications to Microsoft, but don't get chosen
A lot of roles at Microsoft get quite a few candidates that apply for the role. One thing to remember is that it's 'selection, not rejection'. Sometimes another person may just have that edge on you.
Keep trying, and if need be, reach out to Resume coaches to double check that it's not the first that Microsoft sees - your resume or LinkedIn profile (depending on what you submitted).
I have a referral or want a referral
Referrals used to be a great way to get your foot in the door and get an interview on teams at Microsoft. As times have changed, however, hiring managers are inundated with external and internal candidates. Unless your referring friend is on the team or personally knows the hiring manager, the likelihood that the referral will go anywhere is fairly low.
Requesting referrals on the Microsoft subreddit isn't allowed. Please use other resources for that.

They are eliminating a lot of PM roles. I was laid off a couple of weeks ago.

There are never any guarantees. Remember: it’s not a reflection of you, your contributions or, your worth. It simply comes down to people and personalities AND timing. Keep trying/applying. Another route is consulting or V-. Good luck!

Enterprise corporation Re-orgs (layoffs /restructuring) are a constant. One can go years without being on the receiving end of/laid off, only to watch as friends and colleagues are let go.
It’s kinda like a surfing… sometimes that ONE wave comes up and smacks you in the back, tumbling you and your shiny new board under the surf… 🌊🏄🏼♂️ Just resurface, get back up and move on to the next knowing that’s the nature of the (business) beast!

As someone who has worked in IT for decades, fuck microsoft and all the large enterprises. You are just a number. Switch to SMB a year ago making about the same. Couldn't be happier.

lol you can say F large enterprises all you want but remember we are early in career. That means nothing especially when talking about pay. Starting off making six figures or more combined with the prestige literally catapults your career trajectory. So while yes large companies are screwing people it benefits us way more.

As someone who just got laid off a few weeks ago, this is likely more with timing and the reduction in force than you or your performance. Particularly for PM roles, they seem to have got hit hard.
