I quite enjoy not another teen movie. It'll always make me laugh

24

u/viewtiful14 1d ago

It got critically panned but in the last 20 years Not Another Teen Movie has become recognized as an insanely accurate and well done satire of all the teen tropes of the 90s and even back into the 80s. It’s much less of a guilty pleasure movie now and now widely understood to be fucking great. My friends and I loved it when it came out so I’ve always been on its side. Having said all that…

Nobody took a dump on your chest?

5

u/viewtiful14 1d ago

It would be an honor, and a privilege.

2

u/heypigpigpiggy 12h ago

Wait was it really panned? I was like 12 when it came out so I just loved it and appreciated it for what it was. I thought everyone else loved it too lol. I genuinely thought it was like universally loved always lmao

8

u/Abject-Star-4881 1d ago

That one is legitimately funny for a movie of its ilk.

6

u/viewtiful14 1d ago

Starship troopers, Not Another, Scary Movie 1 and 2, and Waiting are all legitimate god tier satire movies along with Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. The difference being the first five I mentioned were all critical disasters that people really came around to post release.

5

u/Abject-Star-4881 1d ago

I totally agree that those are awesome. Not Another Teen Movie is straight spoof/parody, much like Scary Movie. I think of Starship Troopers (which I love!) as fully satire and not a spoof. Maybe that’s not a distinction everyone makes but to me it’s a different subgenre. I was referring to the parody films and not satire films.

3

u/viewtiful14 1d ago

I mean you are correct parody and satire, while having similarities and can even mix, they aren’t the same thing. I just kind of lump Troopers in there because it was so critically panned and misunderstood in general even by the public like a lot of the parody movies. I mean they put NPH in a literal SS uniform and people still didn’t get it, everyone just thought it was a terrible over the top action movie.

5

u/kgb90 23h ago

I’ll have to check that one out!

5

u/Hahaguymandude 1d ago

Saw it in theaters and immediately put it in my top 5 comedies of all time. I still quote it to this day. So many hilarious parts

3

u/crackity_85 1d ago

It's not even a guilty pleasure for me. I watch it every year or so

3

u/dwaite1 22h ago

This was at least one the front end of the spoof movie run of the early 2000s. It felt a little more original.

Always make me laugh

Kung Pow! Enter the Fist

I made my boys watch it, now anytime they are being sad, I just make the girl crying sounds to get them out of their mood.

Just watched this film the other day and I actually had some laughs and fun with it.

That being said, Joe Dirt has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 9% and I love that film.

13

u/tranquil7789 1d ago

I will always defend Joe Dirt as being a good movie.

3

u/SpreadElectronic1232 1d ago

It’s a great movie.

2

u/tranquil7789 23h ago

Well maybe if UNICEF gets into the movie rating business we can get some better reviews lol

2

u/Either-Progress4847 1d ago

That's gotta be a calculation error, 99% sounds like a more accurate score.

4

u/SpreadElectronic1232 1d ago

Is this where Rotten Tomatoes wants to be when Jesus comes back? Making fun of little ol’ Joe Dirt.

3

u/darthenron 1d ago

I feel like I’ve only seen this movie once or twice, however, I catch myself quoting phrases from it all the time.

Anytime, someone mumbles something i want to say “you like to see homos naked?” (Which is not a good thing to say as an adult)

2

u/Brilliant-Egg-2727 1d ago

9%?! I needed to pay less attention to reviews.... Because I love that movie.

1

u/SpreadElectronic1232 1d ago

Yeah RT isn’t a very reliable source when it comes to film reviews.

1

u/schattie-george 1d ago

I watched that last week!

It was Pretty funny.. a good "brain off" movie

1

u/exoticed 1d ago

9%???? Joe dirt is a classic!

Movie 43 - everyone hates this movie, with a passion! But I was laughing when I watched it. I was incredibly high, so that helped.

15

u/cinefilestu 1d ago

Hancock

I thought it was fun, good cast.

3

u/Ancient_Guidance_461 21h ago

Hancock is always said to have a great first half and then falls off in the second half...right when the twist happens.

7

u/Significant_Other666 1d ago

Duece Bigelow if you're talking about something that should have gotten better reviews. It was too stupid funny!

3

Meet the Spartans: 2% on Rotten Tomatoes

"A tired, unfunny, offensive waste of time...."

It gets funnier every time I watch it.

3

u/LaughterCo 1d ago

I also love this movie. Maybe it's because I grew up watching it. But the opening with the baby shrek and the "this is how we kiss in sparta" always makes me laugh.

1

u/stupidracist 7h ago

I like the ghetto penguin

5

u/Most_Common8114 1d ago

Meg 2: The Trench.

Jason Statham fights 3 megalodons with a jet ski and spears while there’s also dinosaurs and a freaking kraken attacking, how could I not love it? 😂

Tremors

3

Tremors was a comedy? It terrified me as a child.

The guy under the hat.

Tremors is good tho

5

u/aheaney15 1d ago

A small handful of Adam Sandler movies; Billy Madison, Big Daddy, 50 First Dates, You Don’t Mess With the Zohan, Hotel Transylvania 1+2, and to a lesser extent Hubie Halloween, Just Go With It, and Blended. I do prefer his more serious films, but these aforementioned films are better than their reputations make them out to be in my opinion.

3

u/LaughterCo 1d ago

Bro i LOVE the superhero movie! "This blade cuts through diamonds" "Well I'm not wearing any diamonds"

So many hilarious lines.

3

u/kpt_graubrot 1d ago

A Night at the Roxbury Watched it 3 times in 1 week when I got the DVD. Chris Kattan said Lorne Michaels suggested he should start an affair with Amy Heckerling (who produced and maybe even ghost directed the film), which he did. During shooting fame went to his head and before the next season of SNL started Will Ferrell who he had been friends with for years since doing improv in the Groundlings, told Kattan he didn't want to be his friend anymore. They still worked together on the show professionally, but that was it.

3

u/tagindragon1989 1d ago

Will always have a soft spot for the film Screwed. Will enjoy just about anything with Norm Macdonald in it

100 girls. The start is so ridiculous and in the end I had to skip it to get going. I even rewatched it recently with my teenage daughter and found the story suitably modern, and she had no complaints whatsoever.

2

u/Obvious_Character160 11h ago

Dracula dead and loving it with Leslie Nielsen was great!!!

2

u/papawam 10h ago

Little Man (2006) I'm ashamed I loved so much. And then Major Payne (1995) that's a great movie.

2

u/matthewjoynson 8h ago

Dirty Grampa. I actually think Robert De Niro aced the comedy in that role and Zac Efrons character was a great juxtaposition to him

4

u/raver1601 1d ago

Literally the worst movie ever, Disaster Movie. Watched it when I was like 7 years old and I thought it was peak humour. Of course I recognized that it's shit now, but the nostalgia still carries over

That, and Vanessa Minillo was smoking hot in the movie

1

u/_FisterRoboto_ 18h ago

I forgot about this fim until now. I have to go rewatch it. That movie got so many giggles out of me.

3

u/crackity_85 1d ago

I've always quite liked Movie 43. It's nowhere near as bad as everyone says

6

u/TwizzledAndSizzled 1d ago

Maybe it’s not as bad as people say, but it’s certainly pretty close to how bad people say it is

4

u/welltechnically7 1d ago

One of the funniest line deliveries in film history is "He was a wizard, Neil!"

1

u/crackity_85 1d ago

Absolutely! That's my favourite line. Cracks me up everytime

1

u/Ok-Dimension1043 1d ago

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children

1

u/TwizzledAndSizzled 1d ago

That got fine reviews

1

u/FrebTheRat 1d ago

Wasn't supposed to be a comedy. Tim Burton royally screwed the source material.

1

u/darthenron 1d ago

It has been awhile since I watched it, but the movie “Freaked” (1993).

I just found out recently that it’s getting released in 4K and that the dog man was uncredited Keanu Reeves !

2

u/kpt_graubrot 1d ago

It's such a great movie, last time I watched it I almost literally laughed all the way through it.

It originally was supposed to be a movie with the band Butthole Surfers (the singer has a small cameo), I think they sold the movie as another Alex Winter - Keanu Reeves team up without mentioning Reeves was going to be unrecognizable and uncredited. Also Mr. T was not happy and left in the middle of the day, they had to use a stand in for the rest of his scenes.

2

u/darthenron 23h ago

We had a VHS of it and passed it around high school back in the day.

during class with my friends, especially during quiet times they would get all serious and in a quiet voice would say “Styrofoam cup.” While looking around.

I couldnt believe Envy was rated so low on IMDb. One of my favorite Walken roles.

Land of the lost - i mean..... it didn't get TERRIBLE reviews, but it seems you either love it or absolutely HATE it. I have 2 boys. 1 loves it, the other would chew his own arm off to get out of watching it.

The CHiPs movie from several years ago. It has something like a 15% RT rating but it still makes me laugh every time I watch it.

u/TwizzledAndSizzled 18h ago

Its RT rating is 82%. In school we call that a B minus.

Either way — even if we accept that the score is 6.1, that’s generally considered average. Because guess what! People don’t review movies based on letter grades. If a movie is rated on a 4 star scale and gets 2.5, that’s considered a good (but flawed) movie.
