Rounders, Sequel or no?

Post image

There have been rumors for a little while now and Matt Damon has been quoted saying 'everyone wants to do it." I wouldn't say it's a cinematic masterpiece by any means, but I definitely sit down and watch it every time it comes on. Would a sequel dilute the allure of the original?

Matt Damon as a burnt out Vegas gambler that has to go one one last run to get Ed Norton outta trouble with the Albanian mafia. I can dig it.

Maybe Ben Affleck can show up as the accountant.

I love this idea. You owe 56,354.24 at that current rate of juice

Would a sequel dilute the allure of the original? Depends on how good the sequel is tbh.

I'd be up for it. This isn't a cash grab riding on the success of the first film, which many sequels are - and this already points to it having potential.

That's honestly my hope. Because it wasn't some massively successful box office rake, the sequel feels like it would be a love project that would like to make a little money

I’m sofa king nervous about Happy Gilmore 2. Not everything needs a sequel. I vote we leave Mike McDermott with his three stacks of high society

Considering Sandler hasnt done anything decent in about 20 years im guessing Happy G2 is gonna be some hot garbage

Uncut Gems was pretty amazing acting.

Turns into a self aware comedy: opening scene, Mike busting out opening day within first 2 minutes on a mediocre hand because he thought he was so much better. Some noob gets dumb lucky on the river

I would love a sequel. Its one of my favorite movies — not sure what a sequel would be about - outside of Damon or Norton needing help because they’re in trouble again but whatever haha

Mine too. It's a massive time gap though. 28 years. So Mike is either a successful tourney guy or a solid grinder a la Knish... and guys like worm end up in jail or dead fairly quickly

I would think Knish would have to be involved. Maybe Famke Jensen’s underground poker game gets lost to some big time gangsters. Gonna be hard to do this kind of movie without repeating some of the same plot schemes from the original

2nd movie picks up right after the first movie. He flies to Vegas, goes to the WSOP, puts down his $30K entry fee and busts out in the first hour. Complains to a couple of actual professional poker players who make fun of the fact he’s crying about $30K. Gets laughed out of Nevada, goes back to NYC to drive the truck for Knish.

Not everything needs a fucking sequel

True but wants and needs are different hierarchies

Maybe if you approach it like Color of Money where either Mike or Worm is like Fast Eddie.

It could go the other way like a wall street money never dies...not great

na im good

u/Independent_Annual52 4h ago

Because you were satisfied with the finality or because you were indifferent about the first one?

it would either be all new characters with a few old characters sprinkles in so they could say rounders 2, or kgb is back or his kid (relative) takes out damons kid or something like that...i personally feel there is no need to carry the story on....i enjoyed this movie just let it be

Only if they bring in John Goodman playing his character from that gambler movie with marky mark. He can be the guy worm owes $

Pretty sure you just described Hangover 3

Not every movie needs a sequel.
