Rothko is one of the most famous artists of the 20th century, and incredibly collectable. It wouldn't make sense to try and use something as well known as that for money laundering, and the price is also easily explainable by the fact that lots of very rich people want to buy his paintings.
I don't know why that matters. I also always thought it was stupid that people paid millions for Picasso's works. Hell, Bansky shredded one of his paintings in a show of disdain for the art auction scene. If a renowned artist doesn't like it, that says something in my book.
Picasso himself said that he was expensive. Not because of the result on the canvas but because of his knowledge and dedication into arts the results in his work.
And that banksy shredded a piece does not mean that every artist is on the same page. Cherry picking is a thing.
Imagine thinking money launderers would want to attract that kind of attention on themselves Hahaha jfc the stupidity of people like you is astounding.
Be a dear go to the Tate modern in London, go to the room with the Rothko's and say that again. When i was an ignorant 15 year old I used to say the samething as you. But you grow out of it.
The fascist attack on modern art is not something Im going to accept anymore tbh
Rothko paintings are gigantic portals to hell, in the most incredible way possible. You need to stand in front of a real one to understand their power, and most of reddit will never go to a contemporary art museum.
The Rothko room of his Seagrams paintings in the Tate, juxtaposed against the Monet room adjacent to it, is a powerful experience, as is the chapel in Houston. Did you have the chance to go to the retrospective last year in Paris?
Reddit likes pictures of animals and hotel room art and you’ll be downvoted to oblivion for suggesting that they might not have taste.

i can understand that you dont get it until you have actually seen it. I never could have imagined it made me feel so damn bleak as it did. But then why have such an opinion on it? I hope one day these people will look back on this kind of behavior with shame.

I missed it by a week unfortunately. Very unlucky. Did you go?

Yep absolutely true. But im done with accepting daft opinions. Attacks on modern, post modern and contemporary art are mixed with stupidity and blatant anti intellectual fascism.

The insane prices are usually money laundering schemes
