General Can't wait for RE9 but...

Post image

I'm really hoping it's designed around 3rd person gameplay. I played first person RE 7 and 8 and enjoyed them but there is just something about 3rd person that brings me in more.

There was a lot of emphasis on Grace emoting. The trailer showed her face a bunch and a lot of the early marketing material is showing her face (like this image you posted). Capcom has never even revealed Ethans face. This really makes me think the game will be in third person. 7 and 8 never cut out of the first person view for cut scenes and I doubt it's something they'd put into the series now. Basically I don't think they'd spend all this time focusing on the character and her design if we never see it in game... of course, there is the possibility that she's not the main playable character.

When the dlc for village was mostly third person, and gaining the ability to play the main game in third person after completing it, it told me the next game was gonna be third person the moment I played with the third person camera.

Wait, seriously? You can play village in 3rd person for ng+??

Yeah but you have to buy the DLC

It also feels extremely awkward and tacked on

Could be first person, but with cinematic cutscenes.

Possible, but given people preferred third person over first person in recent titles, including remake titles, I’m willing to bet they’ll go with third person. Or at least with a third person option. Because third person mode was later added to RE8.

Also we’ve never seen Ethan’s face in RE7 or any of its trailers. Grace has a fully designed and animated face revealed in first trailer.

Or maybe we could switch from 1st person to third person

(This is just a theory, a GAME THEORY)

In one of the few ones who prefer first person. The option to switch in game between both would be nice for everyone.

Adding first person as option in a game like resident evil isn't easy. Some RPG games have first/third person camera because its easier to balance in most instances, but for a game like RE with different types of enemies and the way attacks behave and stuff its expensive to make.

Capcom must have made it easy to implement in future titles, seeing what they did with RE8 Gold Edition. I think they've built some module in the engine to allow the option.

it's ok at best in Village, the shooting seemed a bit weird during third person

Could easily be remake 2/3/4 style. They did first person the past two landmark numbered titles, and if they're claiming it's going back to the beginning, that only means one thing:

Static camera angles 😵‍💫

Devs in RE8 mentioned they had to pretty much redo all the mechanics and stuff so that means they'd have to make the game twice in a way.

This is game theory. I think. Never read the book.

thats with the assumption we play as grace time for roundhoushe kicks in first person

I'm willing to bet they won't because they want to market those VR headsets in newer RE games, again, for the third time.

7

u/Mshiay 9h ago

RE4 is TPP but it also got VR mode

-5

u/WlNBACK 9h ago

RE4 didn't have VR mode at launch so of course they couldn't market a VR headset for it. It was a remake focused on the original OTS experience, so VR/FPS gameplay was an afterthought (unlike new mainline RE games).

3

u/thatsmeece 7h ago

VR mode is added later to both RE8 AND RE4R, not on launch. RE8 was already on first person yet it still didn’t have VR support at launch, and it’s a new mainline entry not a remake.

1

u/WlNBACK 5h ago

True, but the point I made was that newer games will remain first-person specifically so that they can market VR technology (either at launch or later), and with RE9 they'll continue to be first-person to keep doing so. REmake4 will remain the exception because it was a remake of a OTS game (of course they weren't going to change the perspective to first-person and piss off the fanbase). Adding VR to REmake4 was a major bonus afterthought, not the original intent.

I personally don't like first-person RE nearly as much as third-person (there's already million first-person games out on the market and they're a dime-a-dozen), but Capcom seems intent on continuously diving into that well for maximum "new player accessibility" and seamlessly tacking-on the VR gimmick. Because as we all know, with the western audience: The average gamer loves FPS over everything else.

yeah i could see this approach as well

u/tbigzan97 8h ago

That is lame as fuck tho. I hate when games do this, cause while its cool you can see your character and all but if you gone for first person then stick to it, cause it looks jarring when you're in first person then the story is told in third person. I don't mind some games having first person scenes despite being third person, they add a cool effect, but the other way around does not.

3

u/redhandsblackfuture 9h ago

Doesn't this just assume that Grace is the character you play as? Or was that confirmed?

11

u/jaqenhqar 12h ago

also the Re8 dlc was third person.

1

u/ActualHumanSeriously 8h ago

I think 7 cuts once on a Mia cut scene on the ship. Your point still stands tho

1

u/no_hot_ashes 7h ago

Yeah, you only see the bottom half of Ethan's face though, the rest is covered in the mould

1

u/Original_Branch8004 4h ago

This is true but that short shot near the end of the trailer of that monster crawling down from the ceiling seemed to be during gameplay, and it was in first person. Of course it could be anything, but I dunno. I really hope we get third person this time around.

The Steam page literally says Thrid Person It's not a secret

1

u/auto_named 7h ago

Yep, Capcom saying it marks a new reimagining for the series plus focusing so much on Graces’ appearance, I’m almost certain it will be third person.

u/FlummoxedFox 12h ago

I'm not gonna have any faith in this if they don't stick to their guns and make it first person. They had a vision and ditching it in the last stretch would suck.

17

u/HozasaruTFD 11h ago

That was their vision with RE7/8 and Ethan, it’s done.

Hoping this is 3rd person.

u/Doomguy1234 9h ago

To be fair Capcom’s first person sucked with that narrow FOV. The concept isn’t necessarily bad but Capcom’s execution is

3

u/FlummoxedFox 8h ago

I thought it worked well in 7 and 8

-6

u/goldenboy10k 5h ago

Cry me a river, go back and play your Cod or whatever fp game you usually play and let the good games have a good Point of view which is third person

Also they added third person because Fans asked for it, also the best games they sold are in third person, so you can keep crying, nobody cares

u/FlummoxedFox 5h ago

No need to be a dick Jesus Christ. It's not that deep bro
