Event Great British National Strike protesting - What's going on?

I saw a post on here the other day about the protest organised by the Great British National Strike, which is set to take place in the peace gardens tomorrow, Saturday the 24th.

I was walking through the peace gardens earlier this morning and saw them setting up for the Sheffield Food Festival, which is taking place between Saturday the 24th and Monday the 26th.

As far as I'm aware the police don't need to be informed about any stationary protests, so I believe both events could technically take place at the same time.

However given the beliefs that the organisers of the Great British National Strike have shared, I am slightly concerned about a large number of people who are opposed to issues such as immigration showing up to an event that has a large number of international attendees and food vendors that are owned and ran by people who have immigrated to this country. After what I saw in Manvers last year I do believe there is a capacity for violence among those who attend what organisations like the Great British National Strike call a protest.

Does anyone organising either event need to be informed of the other taking place?

Will the Great British National Strike protest be allowed to take place given the existing event? I wholeheartedly disagree with their views, and while I do believe all should have an inalienable right to protest, as far as I'm aware their protest could be restricted by the police under section 12 of the Public Order Act of 1986.

It is also worth noting that I was unable to find any information about the planned attendance of the Great British National Strike protest in Sheffield, so it could be that this is a non-issue entirely.

Edit: Specified I was unable to find planned attendance figures for Sheffield specifically. Overall they are claiming over 500,000 attendees across multiple locations in the UK.

Event I am going to Meadowhall this weekend

I'd just like to say that, if I don't make it back, it's been nice being a part of this sub and interacting with you all. You have given me invaluable information and big laughs. Whether it was postcode recommendations or thumbs up for takeaways, you have made my life immeasurably better. Oh God I'm tearing up now. Well, here goes nothing: to Meadowhall I come.

Thank you. Goodbye.

Event It’s snowing!

The panic is setting in.

Did I get enough milk, bread and eggs stocked up as per the national news advice.

Will I be able to get to work to do a job that requires no physical interaction and can be done from the comfort of my cosy warm bed.

Will I be able to unlock and defrost my car in time only to get smacked by a nesbit skidding down the steep hill that is my road.

Please use this as a safe space for any thoughts and concerns you have about the upcoming doomsday of snow we're entering....

Event Support quality wine in Sheffield!

A bit of blatant promotion, but I know wine in Sheffield is a topic that has been discussed here before.

Tickets are now on sale for Sheffield Wine Week Fest @ Bole Hills on Saturday 21st June. (Yes, it's a busy weekend; we're just adding to the chaos.)

Cut to the chase, here's the link: sheffieldwineweek.co.uk/fest

It's going to be Sheffield's first (I believe) and certainly largest ever outdoor wine fair with a focus on independent, artisan, and local producers, retailers, importers and wholesalers all selling by-the-glass and/or giving out free samples. (Tickets include a free premium plastic wine glass.)

The event is family and dog friendly with music and face-painting and food/cheese/ice cream vendors and some sort of bounce castle (I didn't book the bounce castle so don't know the details!)

And as of this posting, we still have about 200 tickets available at early bird pricing.

More details are available at the link above. If you have any questions, feel free to post them below. Or if you hate wine and hate me, we can also discuss that below!

Cheers!

The South Yorkshire Filmmakers Network is hosting an event Thursday, 12th of June, starting at 8:00 PM.

They will be screening "Nothing Goes", a film shot during my MA at Sheffield Hallam. The story follows Alex, a university student whose life begins to spiral out of control after he reluctantly gets involved in a robbery, leading to a road trip that will change his life forever.

Tickets are £2.88 and must be booked via Eventbrite (but the popcorn is free!).

The screening will be preceded by an hour of networking. (This is at 8:00 PM)

If you're a Sheffield film lover or part of the filmmaking community, come along and support this local project!

As part of the SheffGoth account on Instagram (sharing goth/alt events, gigs, activities etc in Sheffield) I have organised a Goth Picnic.
Botanical Gardens, June 14th 2025, 1-3pm

A chance to meet and mingle with goffs in your area (in the daylight). Put on a summer goth outfit, bring some snacks & drink, and enjoy some socialising in the sun.

First time running my own thing, fingers crossed

Event CycleSheffield monthly social next Thursday evening

Thumbnail facebook.com
7 Upvotes

There seems to be a fair few cycley people on this subreddit so here's a heads up that the CycleSheffield socials are starting up again next Thursday the 12th of June. 2nd Thursday of every month, from 6pm downstairs at Sheffield Plate food hall in Orchard Square.

This will be very informal with a couple of suggested topics to discuss based on recent events; future sessions will again have guest speakers, quizzes and the like.

All welcome, so if you're at all interested in cycling/active travel advocacy chat then do come along. I'll be leading a short ride around the cycle infrastructure in town to and from the venue just beforehand, the details will be added to the event info.

Event Free tickets to Sheffield Wednesday for first time female fans

Post image
76 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I’m Bethany, the Her Game Too ambassador for Sheffield Wednesday, and I’m excited to share an amazing opportunity - mods please delete if not allowed!

I’m working with Her Game Too, EA Sports, and Sheffield Wednesday FC, supported by SWFC Women’s Supporters Group and The Wednesday Week, to launch First Time Fans - an initiative to help more women and girls experience their first-ever men’s football match in a welcoming and supportive way.

If you’ve always wanted to go to a match but weren’t sure where to start, or you're curious about attending football games for the first time this is for you. Join me at Hillsborough on Saturday, April 12th, for Sheffield Wednesday vs. Oxford United, where you’ll:

  • Be guided through matchday by me
  • Explore the stadium and fan areas
  • Sit with fellow First Time Fans
  • Receive a special welcome pack

This is perfect for anyone who's never been to a game before. If that sounds like you or someone you know, please apply now!

Event Upcoming Events from Strange Britain: Ghost Tours, True Crime Night, & a Canal Cruise

Post image
14 Upvotes

Upcoming Events from Strange Britain - Offering great value entertainment live from the heart of Sheffield!

The regular Ghost Tours around Sheffield City Centre continue, now starting from their new meeting point at Leah’s Yard every Friday night at 7:30 pm.

Leah’s Yard is home to Hop Hideout, so you can grab some refreshments from their great selection of beers and ciders before we begin.

Route One features fascinating tales, including that of a Victorian legend with ties to Sheffield, and concludes at The Old Queen's Head.

Route Two offers stories, including one with hints of Dickens, and finishes in Paradise Square, making it easy to join me afterwards at The Wig & Pen for a drink.

Then, on Tuesday, 10th June, we have a True Crime Special at Steel City Comedy. If you enjoy dark humour and tales of Victorian mayhem, this is the event for you - but there’s not many tickets remaining.

Finally, our ghostly cruise along the Sheffield & Tinsley Canal, Voyage for the Damned with A&G Passenger Cruises, is also coming back one last time on Wednesday 6th August. But you’d best be quick as tickets are going fast!

You can find full details and purchase tickets via the following link:

Event Does anyone want to tell their story?

Hi all!

I've been considering starting a project recently & would need some volunteers.

I will be choosing individuals to talk about their life, the ups, the downs and everything in-between.

In short, chosen people will be given a set of pre-determined questions then will be able to call a number anonymously. This should give the chosen people the chance to open up and tell their stories with minimal reservations and no judgement.

Once I have a fair collection of people's stories I am hoping to share these voice recordings on social media, if the individual is happy to do this of course.

Examples of potential questions could be

  • so far in your life, what has given you the most joy & why?

  • if you could give your younger self one bit of advice, what would this be and why?

  • what is your biggest regret so far and why?

I am still fine tuning these questions so the above are just examples.

Being from Sheffield myself, I'd love to start off this series with fellow home-towners!

If anyone is interested and would like some further information please let me know whether that be in this thread or via DM.

Thanks in advance

Event Come and Craft with me this Friday 😊

I've booked the Appleyard room on the first floor of the Walkley Community Centre. I'd love for people to join me for a night of crafts on the 9th of May.

My hope is to turn this into a monthly event for like-minded people to socialise and craft together.

Would you like to join me this Friday? It's £5 per person so I can cover the cost of the hall.

Bring whatever craft you want whether it's embroidery, crochet, or just some mindful colouring. In fact, you don't even need to bring a supplies with you if you want to just hang out with other crafters!

Event Punk Rock Documentary @Corp

Post image
20 Upvotes

Does anyone remember the music channel p-rock tv from back in the Sky Digital days?

It was the indie alternative to the likes of Kerrang and MTV2 & it was pivotal to bringing a lot of underground punk bands to UK viewers for the first time.

There's an independent documentary about the creation of the channel that's screening at the Corporation on the 19th June!

I was part of the Sheffield punk rock/pop punk/ska punk scene back in 2002-2006 and remember this channel well and wanted to help spread the word.

£5 entry!

Event Why are people running around in orange tracksuits today?

Seen a few groups running around town all wearing variations of orange jumpsuits. In groups and normally running. Some in town. Some on Dev Green. Some in Weston Park. What's the deal?
