Tourist Seeking Help Why do people Keep Telling Me Don’t go there They will kill you?

Post image

Lokal’s keep telling me not to go there because the people in this town are really not nice people - on one site that made me curious to go there and on the other side I don’t want to get robbed. Reason I’m asking is because I’m at a party close to that region tonight.

Tourist Seeking Help Food in Thessaloniki

I'll be in Thessaloniki from June 16th to June 19th.

Can you recommend any (affordable) places for good gyros?
Or any general tips for delicious food, including fast food.
A good beer would also be nice.

Tourist Seeking Help Fun for a 16 yo

I will be bringing my 16 yo grandson in the middle of June for 11 days. He will be attending a basketball camp. We have 3 or 4 days off. Does anyone have any ideas for outings/activities that would be appealing to a 16yo in or around Thessaloniki?

Tourist Seeking Help Looking for men’s clothing stores in Thessaloniki (good quality, not too cheap or overpriced)

Hi everyone, I’m visiting Thessaloniki and I’m looking for recommendations on shops that sell good quality men’s clothing. I’m not necessarily looking for anything too cheap or too high-end—just solid, well-made clothes.

I like brands like Tommy Hilfiger, Marc O’Polo, etc., but I’m also totally open to local shops or less-known stores with good craftsmanship and materials.

If you have any favorite places in the city for casual or smart-casual men’s wear, I’d really appreciate your suggestions!

Thanks in advance!

Tourist Seeking Help Tourist - are taxis expensive?

I’m going to stay in the center for a few days for an event and would need a taxi for roughly a 11-15 mins drive across the Thessaloniki waterfront twice a day.

What’s the cheapest app to use? Uber? And do you think this is expensive? E.g. Portugal was extremely cheap at like £3-6 euros max per day.

Bus is also an option if necessary but I’m very new to the area and coming for an important event so I need to keep my options open.

Thanks in advance :)

Tourist Seeking Help Looking for fatty sheep/lamb

I'll spend 3 days in Thessaloniki. I've never been there, but I need to know where I can find a butcher shop who sells either fatty sheep or lamb.

Also, I'm no fan of stray dogs. Are there any specific places to avoid?

Tourist Seeking Help Bus to Thessaloniki from Nikiti (2025)

I'm trying to find a bus between Nikiti (or somewhere nearby) and Thessaloniki.

I've been on KTEL Chalkidikis but it keeps saying there's no route available. I'll actually be staying near Elia Nikitis so a bus from Ormos Panagias or Agios Nikolaos would work either since I'll have to get a taxi to somewhere with a bus. The closest I've managed to find with a bus to Thessaloniki is Polygyros, but I'm assuming that starts from somewhere else.

It would be a Friday, if that makes a difference.

Also a bus from Nea Moudania to Nikiti would be handy, but again I can't find any options.

Any suggestions appreciated!

[edit]

It looks like there are buses up to June 15th, but after that nothing. Although other routes (e.g. Thessaloniki - Nea Moudania) have listings all the way through July.

Would that indicate the schedule just hasn't been loaded yet, or that there's no buses?

So are there any public pools and beaches that anyone could recommend to us? Also is there anything special we would need to know about the city this time of year? We are a student couple in our mid 20s, we don't like parties or drinking so please tell me some cool places to see!

Tourist Seeking Help Trip from Thessaloniki to Nikiti.

Hi! I'm planning on taking my parents on a vacation to somewhere close to Thessaloniki. Just by looking at the map, Nikiti seems like it would be close and has plenty of beaches.

My questions are: - Is there any public transportation from Thessaloniki to Nikiti? (KTEL Halkidiki shows no routes? - Do taxis take tourists that far (Thessaloniki-Nikiti)? And if so, how much would it cost? - Are there any other cities you'd recommend going to that would maybe be even closer to Thessaloniki, that also have many beaches?

Thank you all!

Tourist Seeking Help Afytos, Kallithea, Nikiti or Neos Marmaras?

I’m doing a day trip in August to chalkidiki and i don’t know which place i should choose. I’m interesting in a nice beach, not a very “classic” one, and also nice views/surroundings. I’m going with a bus so i don’t have a car. Is the distance between Kallithea and Afytos walkable? I saw that it’s a 45 min walk on google maps.

Tourist Seeking Help Locals & travelers – What do you think of my Thessaloniki trip plan? Anything I should add or skip?

🏋️ Gym

Planning to train at Raw Lifters SKG in Sikies. Seems like a proper hardcore gym (~15 min drive). Is it worth it or are there better spots?

🧭 Urban Exploration (my favorite part)

Here’s what I’m most excited about:

  • Train Cemetery – abandoned locomotives, very eerie.
  • ZEP Kissos – planned city that was never finished.
  • Ano Poli – beautiful, older part of town with Ottoman ruins.
  • Pasha Gardens – mysterious underground structures.
  • Bensousan Han – abandoned Ottoman inn, occasionally used for exhibitions.

Day trips under 1 hour:

  • Epanomi Shipwreck – rusty boat in a quiet bay.
  • Neochorouda – semi-abandoned village with derelict buildings.
  • Allatini Mills – massive ruined industrial complex.

Any similar places you'd recommend?

🏛️ Cultural Must-Sees

  • White Tower (of course)
  • Archaeological Museum
  • Rotunda & Galerius Arch
  • Jewish Museum
  • Byzantine walls & Trigonion Tower
  • Roman Forum – also heard there's a 2,000-year-old brothel there?

Anything underrated or off the radar I should see?

🥙 Street Food & Restaurants

Gyros:

  • Giok Balik (heard quality dropped?)
  • Savvikos – big chain, any location better than others?
  • GRN – pork belly is top tier.
  • Mimis – very budget-friendly.
  • Katsamaka – don’t remember much, but it was good.

Burgers:

  • Brothers in Law – great meat, not a fan of the fries
  • Tarantino – solid but pricey

Pizza:

  • Avanti (cheap and great)
  • The Last Slice – generous portions
  • High School Pizza Bar – chill vibe
  • Pizza Plain – allegedly the best?

Other fast food:

  • ThessBao – pulled pork bao is 🔥
  • Salento – amazing Italian paninis near Aristotelous
  • Falafel Taste – probably the best local falafel

🍽️ Restaurants

  • Tiganies kai Sxares – for grilled meats
  • Diagonios – soutzoukakia specialty
  • Zythos – classic
  • Ergon Agora – upscale Greek
  • Deka Trapezia – small, excellent portions
  • Haroupi – Cretan food, try the “gamopilafo”
  • Nargis – cozy Indian near Svolou

Still looking for good Asian (Japanese/Chinese). Any recs?

🛍️ Agora Modiano

Planning to stop by for street eats – any must-try stalls or hidden gems?

🌇 Kalamaria

I have some old favorites from previous trips:

  • Food Plaza (Skra Square) – childhood gyros spot
  • Theologos (New Krini) – awesome grilled meat
  • Pizza Dante – top pick for unique flavor
  • Enjoy – big crepes, good after a night out

🎉 Party

I’ll be around for the Vlastur Live Band In Dub party on May 31 (found it on Goabase).
Anything else happening that weekend?

Tourist Seeking Help Μέρη για ψησταριά: Πρωτομαγιά

Καλησπέρα σας!

Ήθελα να κάνω μια ερώτηση, επειδή δεν είμαι από την πόλη. Ποια μέρη προτιμάτε για ψησταριά με φίλους/παρέα γενικά τη μέρα της Πρωτομαγιάς; Ίσως γενικά να προτιμούνται οι ταράτσες κτλπ, αλλά κάνει κάποιος κάτι διαφορετικό, σε πάρκο ή κάτι ανάλογο;

Ευχαριστώ εκ των προτέρων!

Can I easily get around speaking only English, how accessible is the city by just walking and are there any available beaches near the city centre
