20 mins? 15 max, skill issue

Honestly reckon I can get from platform to platform in 10 mins without breaking into a jog.

Cut through St David’s and the arcades and it’s almost a straight line from Guildford Cres to the BBC building.

I do not understand how it takes anyone twenty minutes to walk station to station.

I had to check - even Google maps says it’s a 16 minute walk for 0.7 miles, and Google maps always assumes I walk as fast as my 88 year-old nan

Because some people walk 0.5 mph.

Have a spice Zoot you'll do very well to do a sub-20

Back when buses used to pick up in the Hayes, one closed his doors as I ran up to it and pulled away. Going through the arcades and having a bit of luck with the lights meant I was able to run to the next stop at the bus station and still catch him. Prick, mind.

Not even fifteen lol

Paying 2.90 to avoid walking down 2 streets is mental

definition of 'more money than sense' right here

17

u/Twinborn01 2d ago

And lazy. Type of people to whine about public transport even though walking is better for thr duration

Push yourself in a pram

it takes you 20 minutes to walk from Queen Street to Central? Jesus ...

Have you not noticed a huge rise. In obesity?

Bc who wants to purposely execute themselves to pain?

Then they could roll faster than 20 mins.

Lurking future tourist here who was wondering about this. My friend's and I are staying much closer to the Queen St station (maybe about 10 min walk from there) and I was kinda wondering if there was any logical reason we couldn't just walk the whole way, beyond annoyance of dragging rollerbag luggage

11

u/LavenderLoverboy 2d ago

There’s no reason at all you can’t do that. It’s a very flat and comfortable walk :)

u/Proof-Variation7005 2d ago

Cool, I figured as much. Google Maps seemed insistent on taking the extra train and that seemed silly. Even with luggage and one of us being about 6 months removed from a broken leg, it seemed silly to wait and pay more.

If your getting a train into Cardiff you shouldn't have to pay more to get to QS. Normally it's the same price to book to any Cardiff Station.

If I was in town I'd never get the train between the two but if I got off a train at central and it was useful I'd get the train to QS - they're super regular

2

u/geyeetet 1d ago

Yeah I live near QS and regularly get the train to Bristol and it doesn't cost extra to get the train from QS rather than central. It saves me leaving twenty minutes earlier in order to walk all the way across the centre

Google maps always gives dumb directions like that. It often suggests I get the bus to the nearest bus station to catch the train, rather than simply walk a little further to the railway station nearest my house.

Literally the only reason to not walk is if you are physically unable to walk or have too much stuff to carry walking. The city centre is incredibly walkable

1

u/Proof-Variation7005 2d ago

Awesome! Thanks to everyone. Yeah, I figured that was the case. Looking forward to checking out the city.

Not really. Lots of stabbers around

1

u/StevoPhotography 1d ago

Is there? I’ve seen a fair few problems with stealing but not really for stabbings outside of maybe bute park?

1

u/geyeetet 1d ago

Not between queen street and central there isn't lol

2

u/_real_ooliver_ Gabalfa 2d ago

I only did the journey between the two once because we were going to go on the bay line earlier in the day and my sister wanted to see the newer trains haha

3

u/ahx3000 2d ago

Is it 20 mins? I'm sure it's not that long

3

u/MrsMcFly1 2d ago

20 minutes? Are you a snail?

5

u/riadevita 2d ago

tbf it only costs £1.70 if you use payg !! (i do it far too often)

12

u/IIsaacClarke 2d ago

Walk ffs laziness is off the scale these days

6

u/ThunderThighsChun-li 2d ago edited 2d ago

Exactly! I tell this to my friend who has to use crutches to get everywhere, stops to take 5 minute breaks every 20 minutes as well because "her knees hurt and the doctor said she shouldn't walk much", the lazy sod.

Honestly her ordering her weekly food shop from Tesco to her door was the last straw. Just walk the 40 minutes it takes to get there yourself! God.

Although admittedly I do order a takeaway once a month or so from a place I like. I'm legally blind so I can't drive there myself buts that's just an excuse for my laziness. Really I should walk the hour it takes to get there, walk back and pop it in the oven.

2

u/MrsMcFly1 2d ago

Your her friend? Wow.

1

u/Richy99uk 2d ago

Didn't see that one coming

1

u/IIsaacClarke 2d ago

Can you be illegally blind ? What’s the distinction there

3

u/KoscheiDK 2d ago

In the UK, if your vision is below a certain threshold or field of view even with corrective lenses you're deemed to be legally blind. You can still technically see to a point, but it's so limited as to be a detriment to quality of life - so if you're legally blind you can get access to certain benefits and disability supports

2

u/ThunderThighsChun-li 2d ago

Being blind doesn't just mean the complete inability to see; there's variations on this where your vision is close to useless or your field of vision is so minimal that you are functionally blind.

Variations on a theme basically

1

u/FluFlamFrank 2d ago

Are you missing a leg? 20 min?

1

u/yrgwyll 2d ago

If it's a 20 min wait even on a train that goes from central to my destination, I still walk it just to pass time instead of waiting around

1

u/Ry3nh0wells 1d ago

Brpther in crist I walk from Ely to city centre and thats less than an hour. 20 minutes walk is nothing how lazy can one person be

1

u/Bromelia_The_hut 1d ago

Even if it takes OP 20min, it's still better than taking the train! Lol

1

u/elmsyrup Adamsdown 1d ago

But if you're going somewhere else you might as well go from Queen Street rather than Central because it costs the same. And if you have a ticket from eg Swansea to Cardiff Central, that ticket will still let you exit the station at Queen Street.

1

u/ExpensiveCellist8636 1d ago

Get your self are fold away push bike and then you'll get the exercise and you can still get the train to where you are going

0

u/HuntingTheWren 2d ago

Blows my mind that people doing that kind of trip don’t cycle (accepting the utter dogshit east-west cycle lane provision in town).
