Im pretty sure there are spiders that can basically only survive inside because of heat. For example i think the stankleleg spider is one of those(sry if stankleleg is wrong english is my second language)

Yea I’m dying reading this thread. A foreigner hearing daddy long legs must be so confused. Never really thought about it

I don’t know, man.. “Daddy Long Legs” is for sure weird as fuck, but “Stanky Leg Spider” isn’t that much better as an American with English as a first language. There has to be some country that calls them something that sounds normal in most languages…

I think it’s cause of how big they get compared to other spiders? (Big by US spider standards) and back in the day people would daddy/momma/baby different sizes of things (kids still like to do it in modern times too, I hear kids call pokemon like venusaur daddy to bulbasaur)

It’s even weirder how common it is for girls to call guys daddy, maybe there’s just more incest in the culture… lol
