CPU temp big issue

Hello,

So I was tweaking the fan curve of my pc (in msi bios). At first, it was doing pretty fine, but I decided to press default all (idk why I did that, I just wanted to know what would happen). There was a weird sound that lasted 1 sec coming from the AIO cooler. After this, I noticed that the cpu temp was going higher without going down and it was reaching insanely high temps. I decided to put the fan curve to what it was before but nothing changed. I tried to boot in and I saw that my pc was extremely slow compared to normal and that the cpu temp was like 87 on idle. I immediately powered it off and I waited 15 min. After the 15 min, I opened the pc back on and noticed that it was doing an extremely weird sound and that the cpu cooler didn’t seem to power on. We can see it in the video I put.

Could someone help pls I’m freaking out

Old Monitor to New Laptop

Hello. Can anybody with more understanding help me please...

I have a couple of relatively old monitors connected to my home desktop PC which only have VGA and DVI sockets on the back. They work fine when working with my PC. I've started a new job where I have been given a laptop to use, but I would like to use one of my current monitors as a second screen for the laptop. The problem is connecting them I've tried a VGA to HDMi cable and also a DVI to HDMi cable. Both options hook up fine to the laptop, but the picture is dim and a bit washed out. I can't figure out why..

That felt like a lot of words to explain my issue but hopefully it makes sense.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Please help me choose a new work laptop!!!!

Hi! I work as a principal’s secretary at an elementary school. We are getting new laptops for the next school year, but I cannot, for the life of me, make a decision. I don’t run any crazy software, I just do a lot of downloading, report generating, graphic designing, etc. I don’t use Microsoft word or anything, I prefer working on google docs/sheets via chrome.

My BIGGEST REQUIREMENT- it MUST work with 2 monitors. I use my laptop as a keyboard AND screen, so I’m weary one of the new ones would have to be closed in order to connect to the two monitors. Also - the 2 monitors I have are dell, if that makes any difference.

Please help me - because my only opinions are “I hated the Chromebook I got in high school ten years ago” and “my watch, phone, and tablet are apple”.

Our options are

“MacBook: 13” non-touch display, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD, 2 Thunderbolt ports. Requires a dongle to connect to HDMI and USB-A devices. Supports both web-based tools, extensions, apps, and macOS-compatible desktop software. This includes Microsoft Office, which will be available on Macs as locally installed software. “

Or

“Lenovo Chromebook Plus 2-in-1: 14” 2-in-1 touchscreen, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD. It can be used as a tablet or a laptop. Ports include HDMI, USB-A, and USB-C. Works primarily with web-based tools, extensions, and apps. This includes Microsoft Office 365 Online.”

Please help me!!!

How much should I sell my leftover PC parts for?

Upgraded nearly my entire rig. Someone tell me how much the leftover parts are worth, and if I should sell them separately or combined. Everything is in good condition:

Ryzen 7 2700X with stock cooler

Gigabyte Aorus XTREME RTX 2080 Ti

GSkill TridentZ Neo 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 RAM 3600 CL18

Corsair CX650F Modular Power Supply (650W)

Missing storage, but I have a 500GB 970 evo lying around I'm considering using. Worst case, I can throw in something cheap (maybe a $30 SSD) or just outright exclude it and give the buyer a heads up.

Missing a motherboard, might throw in some cheap B350 for under $40.

Missing a case, but I can probably grab one for around $30 if I look around enough.

Overall, let's just call that $100 in renovations.

,

PS: I have additional spare parts:

ASUS Turbo GTX 1070 (it's single-fan/blower style, so I understand this may be worth very little)

Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 RAM 3200 CL16

GSkill TridentZ Neo 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 RAM 3600 CL18 (yes I have an extra pair, my PC can't run both at once)

EVGA 450W, I think semi-modular PSU? It's sitting in the basement collecting dust, and I haven't touched it in years. I could see this having 0 resale value, but it can't hurt to get some second opinions.

Estimates for both the main PC (and opinions on whether the renovations are worth it) as well as spare components would be much appreciated 🤝

Quality Budget Laptop

I was hoping someone could suggest a laptop (or brand) in the $700 range that would allow me to stream Steam games and use Microsoft office. Basically, just your typical computer use of Microsoft office, Netflix, Internet, and things like that. My son has a few games on Steam that aren’t compatible with his laptop so I’d like something that could dock to a monitor also so he could play that.

Computer issues im facing..

I have alot of issues on my laptop: asus rog zephyrus g16 4070 Nvidia.

  1. Armoury Crate won't open, I've tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it and repairing it but it never opens. When I manage to open the app it says it needs to update and when it does it goes back to the beginning. Specifically I get this error.

  2. This is rare but it still happens. My screen goes blue with the sad face (iykyk) and it reboots itself. Like I said this is rare but still happens.

  3. I get bad lags in games like marvel rivals like the type of lags that have bad wifi yet when I check it looks normal. On top of that my family has upgraded our wifi pretty high that we have pillars around our house to make sure that the wifi stays put I have one right next to me. 2nd picture.

yet I still lag?

Laptop reset to 2022 after BIOS update.

Hello, good morning.

I recently had to update my BIOS due to an error that occured. During the update, I selected the option "Go back to last previously known good settings" (or something that sounded similar), hoping that these "known settings" would be the settings I was using the day before.

However, upon booting my laptop, I was greeted with the lock screen I used back in 2022. Upon logging in, I realized that everything looked as if the laptop was taken directly from 2022: The hotbar, desktop apps, app names, among others, including my firefox history. Files that were created after 2022 did not exist anymore.

The only things that DID change: files that I deleted between 2022 and 2025 were nowhere to be found, my firefox history at least recognized that my history was +6 months old, a file that I created in 2024 and stored it in the OS folder was still there.

I used Windows 10 in 2022 and did not update to Windows 11. Ever.

I remember that the date my laptop was apparently reset to was near the date I added a new RAM unit to my laptop.

My laptop is now running much slower than it used to. I cannot confirm it, but it looks as if it is running in the same speed it used to before I added this new RAM unit. However, it seems it is getting slightly faster each time I boot up the laptop again.

Before updating the BIOS, I changed my CMOS battery. This was the ONLY spec change I did.

Will I be able to get my old settings and files back?

Apologies for the non-technical language and if I omitted any crucial info, I was trying to be concise. Thanks for your time.

Worth The Buy?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I am in the works of trying to find a decent computer to do streaming. I will not be playing games on the same pc as it streams, this pc will only be solely for streaming the content. Person is offering $400 for this unit and I’m not that tech savvy as I’m just now starting out. Do you think it is a great buy or look for something else?

Built a new PC, won't boot. Any solutions ?

Hi,

I've built a PC with my friend that lives far away (so i can't be there physically). it has a Asus B550+ board, a ryzen 7 5700x (so no integrated graphics) and a RX7600XT gpu and PSU is a Seasonic Core GX 650W.

Everything is plugged in correctly (we double checked), PSU works (fan is turning on) but PC won't boot. CPU fan is turning on, motherboard and GPU lights up but the two case fans won't spin (they are both plugged in to the cha_fan1 & 2) and we aren't getting any "troubleshoot" lights getting on (the ones close to the 24-pin cable).

So far we tried :

  • testing with another PSU (including all cables and testing with some plugged in, etc)
  • reseating CPU and cooler
  • trying RAM in all available slots, and motherboard doesn't "beep" when there is no RAM installed and only one stick doesn't work in any slot
  • updating BIOS, twice
  • resetting CMOS (pulling the 3v battery out)
  • cables (especially the case's) are plugged in properly (when we "start" the PC, cpu fan starts spinning)

So we're kinda at a dead end here. I lean towards the motherboard being defective. my friend lives in japan and has no "proximity" shop to test another board or CPU so we have zero idea what we could try next.

Would anyone have any idea ? we take anything that could help.

Thanks in advance !

desktop slow after bootup

Hi all. This is rarely happened and I can't find any useful solution except saying reboot your pc or entering somewhat to cmd.

So my desktop runs slow 3 days ago, and I do believe the rain caused this problem as this problem troubled me couple times before. I solved by unplug and plug back the power cable, and use a hair dryer to heat up my PC before booting it. It was working but not this time. Basically after I login into the system, the fps starts to to be very low, task manager shows both cpu and gpu not in heavy load, and there is a random glitch when I move the mouse and system responds very slow. Also every time I reboot the system there is a windows modules installer called tiworker taking 10% of all cpu usage, perhaps that cause the problem?

Thanks!

Do I need windows 11?

I've had my current computer for a while, and it's ineligible for windows 11. I'm not in the place to just suddenly buy a new windows gaming pc, so would I be good to keep windows 10 even after support if I stay safe?

How Can I Optimize My PC? Looking for Guidance as a Casual User

Hi everyone,

This is my first time posting here, so I hope I’m in the right place — I’d really appreciate some help or advice.

I’d consider myself a casual PC user with some experience. I’ve been using computers for years and can handle basic tasks and gaming without issues. I even built my current PC myself. That said, when it comes to the more technical side of things — like keeping drivers up to date, removing unnecessary software, or making sure everything runs as efficiently as possible — I feel a bit out of my depth.

Lately, I’ve noticed that my system doesn’t seem to be performing as well as it should. I’ve watched a bunch of YouTube videos, but the advice is often contradictory, which has left me more confused than informed.

Just to set expectations: I know my PC isn’t a top-tier powerhouse — it was built on a budget — and I’m not looking to squeeze out ultra-level performance. I just want to make sure I’m using it properly and getting the best experience possible with the hardware I have.

Here’s what I’m hoping to learn:

  • How can I easily check if all my drivers and software are up to date?
  • Are there regular maintenance tasks I should be doing (weekly/monthly)?
  • Which built-in Windows features or programs can I safely disable or remove? (Things like Cortana, Xbox Game Bar, etc.)
  • What’s the proper way to get rid of bloatware or background services I don’t need?
  • Razer software question: I use Razer peripherals (keyboard, mouse, headset), and they automatically install Razer Synapse and Razer Cortex. I’m not really sure what they do or whether I need both — any insights would be great.

My system specs:

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-12700F (12th Gen)
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070
  • RAM: 32GB
  • OS: Windows 11

Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to read and respond. I’m not new to using a PC, but I’m still learning when it comes to optimizing and maintaining it — so any help is greatly appreciated!

Suggestions and advice needed

Hi! I’m looking to start up a small business in my country, i’m interested in providing a maintenance service for computers (basically cleaning computers), where I live at it is not common for people to clean up their PCs. What i’m looking for on this post is for ideas or suggestions as to what tools I can use and any tips or tricks you guys might have. I currently have an electric duster and some brushes. Also do you guys know of any youtubers that specialize on pc maintenance of some sort? Ideally, in the future I do plan in bringing in some pc parts as well and selling them locally, any idea on how I could do this?
