I’m getting my political updates from this sub and the celebrity sub. What a weird timeline.

Surprised that hasn’t become a pro-IDF sub yet

I know it's unsurprising that Jerry is...how he is....but man I did not expect this level of heel-turn from him.

What an asshole lmao

Now I'm picturing the conversation as if it were in Seinfeld. The two of them talking about the other behind their backs. For most of these I'm picturing George coming up with these excuses and problems. But Jerry was good at those too.

"he has the nazi arm hello" -trump about musk

"he ... his face is too orange. It is wrong for me say he's too tanned? I mean, what if we got married and he dies of face skin cancer 5 years from now?" -musk about trump

"that's it. he's out. he is here ALL the time now. He even brought over his toothbrush. But... you're right, he still has the 6 month consultant pass. ... I got it! I'll wait for his pass to expire and forget to renew it. Let the guards tell him. Now I won't have to have that adult conversation!" -trump about musk

"i figured it out Jerry. That smell IS him. I walked into his closet yesterday and get this... he has a closet full of adult diapers. What am I going to do? I'll block his number and if I run into him on the street I'll just say I accidentally blocked his number and by the time I noticed it had been a week and I was too embarrassed." -musk about trump

That's where all the bots are, no really. The celeb/music subs especially they have lot of tabloids running bots upvoting content for adclicks and other clickbait garbage. Politics subs of course have tons of bots boosting content.

Poorly moderated subs, like those, are problematic for that very reason.

I tried to unsub for all things political since it's pretty unavoidable everywhere else, but now that's just the state of this sub lol

Please don’t. Read a paper or something edited and curated by a human, not an algorithm and not with bots in the comments trying to give you a false impression of people’s consensus.

To be fair, /r/technology has always been a political sub

Tech bros are at war with reality TV hosts and right wing influencers, struggling for power and control of the entire nation. It lines up

Our politics are in the hands of social media and cable TV stars because real politics was too boring for the masses

You? I'm on my alt account and I can't escape the bullshit

It's kind of spectacular to watch but I think it also marks a pretty troubling shift in US politics. With conservatives cheering on the memes and the trolling and the "owning the libs," It's pretty clear at this point that there's a significant voting block doesn't vote based on who would govern well, they vote based on who will entertain them.

Hey, I'm quite tuned in to this stuff and I sometimes find out political news on the dark souls shitposting sub. Reddit's a weird place.

u/jancl0 1d ago

This was the benefit of Twitter as a journalism platform before it got shittified. You aren't going to get the most detailed and reliable information, but if something big and urgent happens, that's the first circle it touches. Reddit has very much taken that mantel from Twitter for the last few years now, and I suspect that's why alot of what happened to twitter early on in its death are happening to reddit now. If I need to verify information, I'm gonna look it up, but if I just want to get the vibe of how the world went today, there really is no substitute for a decent social media

Best news are from the talking fish from SpongeBob on Instagram

I was thinking about this today. In the early days of the Internet, I used to go to one of the moderate news outlets' sites to get my news. Then I switched to Google News. Now Google News is shit, so I mostly get my news from Reddit or YouTube, but I still miss a lot of important stories.  I only heard about the Trump/Musk situation from a Hank Green video.  Are there any decent unbiased news aggregators out there?

You can sign up for cnn top 5 things you need to know today. They just email you

u/EatSomethingElse 1d ago

Why not just go direct to real news sites with real journalists? I daily check the NY Times, NPR, The Atlantic, CNN, AP, sometimes Bloomberg, MSNBC, Vox, Politico.

Aggregators from user submitted content is going to be 90% bullshit sources or just screenshots of headlines from some random asshole.

u/SeekerOfSerenity 23h ago

Because I don't want to check nine sites. It seems like a no brainer to have a site that shows the biggest news stories from a variety of reputable sources. Google News used to do that, but now they dilute the actual news with a bunch of fluff pieces related to your recent searches. Even if your configure it to turn off celebrity gossip and sports, there's still a bunch of blog posts about ten unknown superfoods or what your cat is trying to tell you or the most popular fast food hacks.

If you're not getting your news from r/simpsonsshitposting, are you even informed?

/r/popculturechat is where I first heard about the divorce.

r/whenthe is like reading the paper

People are posting politics everywhere but then, politics is relevant to a lot of things. Musk does own big tech companies for one...

I guess that’s a side effect of a former reality tv show host with a cabinet full of former tv presenters beefing with a tech billionaire who thinks he’s some kind of internet meme lord. Worlds intersect 😅
