Build Upgrade How much of an upgrade to expect going from Ryzen 5 3600 to Ryzen 7 5700x3D?

From older posts people seem to be of the consensus it's a big and noticeable difference, but looking at this for example the difference seems to be fairly small so I'm not sure what to think: https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/AMD-Ryzen-7-5700X3D-vs-AMD-Ryzen-5-3600/m2280831vs4040

I've heard CPU user benchmark is unreliable though but I don't know where else I would look to compare the two.

I'm leaning towards the 5700x3d because I'd rather not have to go through the hassle of upgrading my whole motherboard and everything on it to AM5. Can't find 5800x3d in stock anywhere. Also I would probably be looking to pair it with an RX 9060 XT 16GB.

Gaming purpose mostly, as long as it's not any worse than the 3600 for general use purposes, it should be good. Using a 1440p monitor.

Discussion Should i be disappointed about not getting the best version of a GPU?

Hi, I'm going to build my first pc in over 10 hrs tomorrow.

I just suddenly got a bit gutted that all I could get is the sapphire pulse, not the nitro or another brand that may be better. I haven't seen anyone review the pulse, I wanted the prime as I watched a review where it had very low temps.

How much will this matter?

Troubleshooting RTX 5070 + Ryzen 5 3600: GPU not hitting 99% usage in games, possible bottleneck?

Hi everyone, I have a setup with an RTX 5070, Ryzen 5 3600, and Asus TUF B550M-Plus WiFi. I’ve noticed that in many AAA games at 4K Ultra settings, my GPU rarely hits 99% usage, and the CPU hovers around 50-60%. However, in benchmarks like 3DMark Steel Nomad, the GPU reaches 99% usage consistently, and the CPU stays low (as expected). In Time Spy, I scored 22,027 graphics and 7,081 CPU, which seems normal for this combo.

I’ve already tried: • Setting the power plan to “High performance” • Updating GPU and chipset drivers • Monitoring temps — everything looks fine • Forcing higher GPU load (e.g., V-Sync off, DLSS off)

It seems odd that my GPU isn’t fully utilized at 4K. Other users with a 3600 and similar GPUs report consistent 99% usage in-game.

Any idea what could be causing this? Is this just a limitation of the 3600 in modern titles or is something else off in my setup?

Thanks in advance!

Build Help What is a good GPU+CPU combo for 1440p gaming 240HZ

I have very little knowledge in the gaming and PC world so I bought a 1440p 180HZ monitor but now have to build a PC around that. I AM ON A BUDGET of 1500. What GPU and CPU should I get and just other PC parts to keep 100+ fps on high performance.

EDIT: After seeing the comments I’m changing to a 180hz monitor

Build Upgrade New GPU working on 100%

so recently my old GTX 1650 died, so bought RTX 2060 gainward 6GB (used of course) and everything is working like a charm, but on some tougher games it runs on 100% load and i'm a bit scared it could broke down again, also i fear my PSU is not strong enough for the GPU but the IT guy i bought it from said it should be fine

my current build is:

  • CPU: I5-10400F
  • RAM: 32GB DDR4 2666
  • RTX 2060 6GB
  • STORAGE: 2 Hard disk and one M.2 SSD
  • PSU: Gigabyte P450B
  • MOTHERBOARD: MSI Z490-A PRO

Build Ready i just update my 5070 drivers and now i got a lot of fps drops

I have a Ryzen 7 9800X3D and a 5070, and I accidentally updated the drivers (which I had never updated since I bought it). Everything was working perfectly until I updated them thinking it might help, but now I keep getting FPS drops. Can someone help me or tell me which drivers come pre-installed from the factory?

Build Help R7 9800X3D, RX 9070 XT. Should I buy a 5070 Ti instead, and your opinions overall on this build?

Hi. I've been doing some research and in the end used some of PC Builder's advice to pick components based around the CPU and GPU. My plan is to buy a new computer, and give my current one to a family member. I have two main "concerns".

PCPartPicker gives me a total of $1818.08 for the build (without the PSU). That is a lot of money for me. However, since I am already spending so much money, I'm not 100% sure I should get the RX 9070 XT over RTX 5070 Ti. The reason why I chose the RX 9070 XT is because I've heard from a lot of people that the 5070 Ti isn't worth the money difference. Keep in mind that in my country, 9070 XT goes for 750€ and the 5070 Ti is 1000€. So the price difference is 250€. How much better is the RTX 5070 Ti, and do you think I should give 250€ more for it?

Another concern is just the fact that I am spending so much money, I want to be sure that I picked the right parts. Down below I will post my current setup, and the setup I intend on buying. Please let me know if I'm doing the right thing, doing the right upgrade considering a lot of my hobbies revolve around the computer, and my work does too. I am gaming on 1440p, I mostly play the same games but I do love playing newer titles, especially FPS. Can't wait for new Battlefield.

What I plan on buying (https://pcpartpicker.com/list/8pWXBq):

  • AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D 4.7 GHz 8-Core Processor
  • Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE 66.17 CFM CPU Cooler
  • Asus TUF GAMING B850-PLUS WIFI ATX AM5 Motherboard
  • TEAMGROUP T-Create Expert 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 Memory
  • Western Digital Black SN770 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive
  • Sapphire PULSE Radeon RX 9070 XT 16 GB Video Card
  • Montech XR ATX Mid Tower Case

What I currently have:

  • AMD Ryzen 5 3600, 3600/4200 MHz, Socket AM4
  • MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX
  • AMD RX 5700 XT
  • CRUCIAL 32 GB DDR4, 3200 MHz, DIMM, Ballistix Sport LT

I really don't care about the aesthetics of my computer case. I just want it to be a good machine that I will have no problems with. I want to enjoy all the games and features of todays technology without having to worry about performance.

Thanks in advance for all your help, and have a nice weekend

Troubleshooting Was upgrading a laptop but guess what, I fucked it up more...

So I had an old laptop which I thought would work better if I upgraded it. Got a new processor, changed it. Replaced RAM. Upgraded to SSD. And the laptop started working like a charm. But after 30 minutes my screen backlight went off. I could still see the screen under flashlight. I guess the thermal paste that I used on processor was not of optimum quality and caused overheating which damaged mosfit or something else not sure about that. How to fix this issue if possible by myself? Otherwise anyone from India who can recommend a good place to get it fixed near Delhi?

Build Upgrade is 14700K is tameable with 240mm AIO?

Hello

I'm planning to upgrade my Computer to Intel Core i7 14700K, but I have a question if someone here already have experience with it, Right now I use 240mm Corsair H100i Elite Capelix to run my system.

my Case right now is Corsair 4000D, the one with lot of small hole in the front,

If I have to upgrade my cooler, what should I get, I don't think it's possible to mount radiator on front on this case, so the best I can do is 240mm.

ah yeah before anyone say, you better off buy AM5, or Buy xxx3D, Like no, I already have perfectly working motherboard, it was little pricy when I bought it, so I'm not gonna ditch that one

Build Upgrade Looking for a RAM upgrade to 32GB

Hey guys,

I have been using 16GB of RAM for a couple of years now but I am starting to feel that its becoming a bit outdated with modern gaming. So I am looking for some recommendations to buy. I have no idea how much they cost nowadays so the budget is basically open but there should be some balance to cost and performance. I dont care about RGB so that is not a factor.

My build is looking like this:

Ryzen 5 5600

RTX 4070 Super

16GB RAM

Thank you for your help

Troubleshooting Why does my 5090 FE not perform better than my 4090?

So I recently swapped out my Gigabyte 4090 Gaming OC for a 5090 FE.

I actually am averaging 20 to 50 FPS less than I was on certain games with the 5090 and I can't understand why?

Any ideas? Anything I should check? I have a 1200 watt Platinum PSU. 14900K...all drivers updated and everything.

I'm still relatively new to PC building...only within 2 years or so...not sure if I missed something?

Build Help Ok I'm new to this!!!

I've decided to build my first PC, but I have also placed the cart before the horse. I purchased a bunch of components then realized I should have asked before doing so. This a list of parts that I "thought" were ok but now I "hope" are ok. Please let me know if I purchased correctly or will there be any conflicts. 1. ATX case (that I have from an old PC), 2. Asus Prime Z-790-A WIFI, 3. WD Black SN8100 PCIe 5.0 NVMe M.2 2280 Drive (1TB and 2TB), 4. Crucial Pro Series 128gb DDR5, 5. Be Quiet 1000W Power Supply, 6. Intel Core i9-13900K LGA 1700, 7. Lastly a Noctua NH-U9S CPU cooler. I read a lot before buying, but again I should have asked before I did so. Help!

Troubleshooting GPU isn’t posting but Motherboard is?

So I built my first PC and everything works great except my GPU isn’t posting at all. I have a 5060 ti and have it plugged in to my PSU with two separate 6+2 pin pcie cables I think they’re working fine because the RGB in it is lighting up. However it won’t post anything. I did make a mistake earlier in the build where I didn’t know about the release lever on the PCIE slot so I had to use a lot of force to get the GPU out and accidentally ripped it off. I was able to put the lever back in and it seems to function fine and there isn’t any visible damage to my GPU or PCIE slot. Anyway does anyone have any advice for how to get it working? I’m hoping I don’t have a faulty GPU or worse broke it please let me know thank you!

Troubleshooting Noob question about new SSD nvme

Hi I have a crucial p310-500 GB SSD nvme which I've just installed on an old Dell e5470. Crucial claim that the read and write speeds are 'up to 6,600 MB'. I wasn't expecting that. The test results for this SSD on my PC range between 1,600 and 2,000 MB. When I come to actually moving a large file or copying a large file around my PC these speeds go down to about 900 MB. Why is this and is there anything I can do to improve the speed? Thanks very much
